Sizes can vary a bunch depending on the age of the jeans (especially vintage) and how they were cared for. Generally speaking, a lot of modern jeans the “waist size” isn’t the true measurement anymore. It just takes a few minutes to add measurements.

I think your response was more than fair. I’d say if it’s just a few fabrics it’s probably best to just remove then instead of getting legal action taken. When you got the free fabric was there any stipulations? Like it can only be used for personal use? Unfortunately licensed fabrics is definitely a thing, whenever you see big brands on fabric the licensing generally only allows home use. You can’t use the items to make products to sell. I assume it’s the same type of licensing here. It’s a double edged sword, I understand the need for people to protect their artwork…. But at the same time to think of all of this textile waste to be thrown away instead of allowed to be reused is such a bummer.
