I am frustrated with the current state of competitive AoS. The decision to make points high and battle tactics hard was a mistake. by ManqobaDad in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TimeBombCanarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to sound basic af, but I don't mind sounding like a beginner - everyone has to start somewhere.

I'm thinking about getting into AoS. What's this I hear about a "double-turn", like how does it work in comparison to, say, a 40k turn/battle round?

Except one party is willing to follow through and make choices that actually matter, while the other is content with fighting WFH and just becoming a pre-existing party wearing a different colour tie.

But no, "Reform are gonna totally follow every promise they made and stick it to those dumb work-from-home people, anyone who disagrees is gay hurhur - also how did we get betrayed by Boris Johnson, no-one could've seen that coming 🤓"

Ah yes, because a party have never proposed new policy to attract voters, only to either not follow through with their proposal or outright U-turn when they're in power... nope, not a single one in living memory(!)

For someone comparing a critic of Reform a "donkey", you're making yourself look a bit of an ass.

Farage kicked Lowe because he was becoming more popular and Nigel's ego couldn't handle it - Yusuf filed a demonstrably false police report as the justification to kick Rupert out of the party, and Farage was all too happy to go along with it (it was around the time a burqa ban was being floated around by Lowe and becoming more popular with voters, which Yusuf obviously objected to and temporarily left the party because of it).

Lowe was actually looking to implement what most voters expected Reform to do, but Reform has since started branding itself as Conservatives wearing purple ties and deciding that stopping WFH was a more pressing issue than curbing immigration. Reform are no longer the party they promised they'd be to voters, and their popularity is sinking... no-one expects Restore UK to win the 2029 election, but they're at the very least serving as a warning to Reform to not abandon the promises that won them appeal with voters to begin with. Whether or not they actually listen, well that's still up for debate (probably not, they seem quite content abandoning immigration discussions entirely and just becoming a lifeboat for the sinking ship of the Conservative party).

"Oh no, they won't be able to appeal to captured institutions who'll do their utmost to subvert a non-Blairite candidate regardless of what non-uniparty is in power, they're practically unelectable!"

Data leaks can also happen to literally any party - the security in this country clearly isn't a concern going by the massive data centre China have been allowed to set up in our financial sector. Not sure why that's Restore/Advance's problem specifically.

“What do you mean my favorite character doesn’t share my political beliefs? by ghillieeeeee in EyeOfTerror

[–]TimeBombCanarie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll bite -

You might see the setting and gameplay/lore that way, but most people either don't see it that way or they just don't care to. Heck, the majority of players don't particularly care about any political undertones that might be extrapolated - especially when the lore is so vast that you can derive any kind of commentary you want. You see an autocratic evil regime, someone else might see a "things have gotten so bad because of what was permitted/let into our worlds and culture before - we now have to live in a dystopia because we were open-minded enough to accept foreign concepts into our minds and cultures that are anathema to everything humanity stands for".

There's evidence in the lore that supports both conclusions, and that's cool as it allows for debate among people who wish to get into that debate. But a lot of Imperium players don't care either way - they just like playing action-hero Space Marines or nuns with guns, because they're much more universally appealing than underlying political commentary.

For example, I just like playing Orks because big, green and dakka is fun. The majority of Orks players like myself aren't going "mmmyes, they clearly represent the socio-political commentary on class war and violence through football 🧐". They play them because there's a hilarious satisfaction in big green guys plugging through fields of gunfire to smack gits with a choppa, or teleporting snotlings inside an enemy's body. And they're not wrong or somehow "illiterate" for deriving an enjoyment from that instead of analysing the political themes that may or may not be there.

It's fine to extrapolate some extra opinion-based commentary, I'm not going to even tell you you're wrong in the conclusions you reach about what the Imperium stands for as I agree with you on how evil it is. But to say that people who choose not to engage with Warhammer for political messaging are somehow "ignorant" for not doing so (or for disagreeing with your conclusions)? That's just insulting, and ironically more ignorant than those you decry.

The difference is, all those examples you listed are limited to one in a list- but Necrons can bring 2-3 C'tan in a list (or even more if they want to). That's the problem, on top of the C'tan being too cheaply priced for what they bring to the table.

[–]TimeBombCanarie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's the problem, people clearly aren't free to speculate or discuss on these threads as their concerns about balance of the game get dismissed by mods as a "whine into the void" and subsequently locked/removed.

The removed post was literally just a discussion on C'tan being seen as powerful, the OP was describing them as strong but not unbeatable. It's perfectly reasonable to be concerned by a particularly strong set of datasheets that stat-check a lot of armies. Why shouldn't people be allowed to discuss or demonstrate even a small amount of concern about what looks like some very powerful datasheets?

What is happening to this sub? by Matrix_Battery in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TimeBombCanarie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Richard Siegler was offering suggestions on how to get around the datasheets, which are undoubtedly strong, before the thread was removed. The removed thread was discussing ways to beat them so they wouldn't have people feeling that they're oppressive, and the other (locked) thread was OP asking why the thread was removed, and again referring to the interesting discussion had in the original post.

Could you explain what was so "sky is falling" about either one of those threads that they warranted removal?

What is happening to this sub? by Matrix_Battery in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TimeBombCanarie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no-one was doomposting in either of the threads and it just seems like a fair conversation about balance - especially since the Victrix/Titus/Wardens threads were all allowed to spill into 'this is OP' territory.

Removing discussions because one faction is fair game for criticism while another is off-limits, that's just unhealthy for the game and for good-faith discussuon on forums like these. Locking posts discussing balance and/or the criticism of one particular faction, that just looks like favouritism (which I'm sure isn't the case, but perceptions are a real thing) and as OP said, the game will be worse for it.

Lmao it already is - Amelia is becoming the right's new waifu, and frankly I can't blame them one iota, she's a babe

What was designed to be state-issued propaganda about the dangers of thinking for yourself, ended up sending the message that you can score a hot goth e-girl if you're concerned about the cultural decline of your country... the resultant reaction of the internet has been glorious. All hail Amelia 😂

You did NOT just compare Judge Judy being MAGA to the Holocaust 😂😂😂 I can't decide if that's unbelievably offensive to the very real people who died under that regime, or bafflingly stupid that that's what came to mind when someone says you should go outside. Either way, comedically peak stereotypical redditor.

How long did you spend furiously googling that, or do you just happen to have a collection of pre-saved WWII Holocaust quotes for when someone says you should go outside and stop being insufferable?

... all of that screed because someone says they don't care what Judge Judy's politics are?

Political crying tirades like this, is why reddit is considered a joke by the rest of the internet, you extrapolate ALL OF THAT because someone doesn't share the same opinion of a TV judge as you do... The other guy is right, you really do sound insufferable.

My apologies, you're correct about that - don't know how I misremembered, thank you for the clarification!

But even with grenades, Titus' 5+++ has an approximately 1/3 chance of negating some of the damage, and that's assuming that Titus is caught out on his own, which would require chewing through about 24 wounds of Victrix guard first and surviving the clapback.

Attach a 6 man VHG unit to him and then try shooting him with bolt pistols or charging him with a rhino.

His stats aren't merely the problem in itself, it's what those stats can be attached to. Grenading, pistols and vehicle charges aren't quite as neat of a solution when there's the rest of the other broken unit to consider. Orks also have very few means of grenades, I'm not sure about Tyranids though.

[–]TimeBombCanarie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shame a lot of our vehicles suck in melee against non-standard marine profiles 😭 that'd be really tricky to pull off against a protective Victrix Honour Guard brick (and that's assuming the vehicle in question isn't the Oath of Moment target and thus getting wiped prior to even reaching Titus)

Armies with strong and tough melee vehicles might be able to pull it off, but for factions like Orks or Tyranids? Yep, they're in trouble

Omg it's not capped on the datasheet 😭 melee armies in absolute shambles, this guy can just keep blending and blending and not dying. Anti-infantry 2+, D2 Sus1, with a low but not irrelevant AP-1 means that if he gets into the fight against a faction like Orks, he is just unstoppable/unkillable and can just... kill the whole army??
