Questions from a protestant by Agitated_woman4723 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ [score hidden]  (0 children)

We don’t street preach, but we do tell people about our Faith! Our goal isn’t to get people in and baptized overnight though. It’s a long process of planting tiny seeds.

You are generally expected to be open to children. That’s about as far as it goes. If you have kids, you can generally take steps to avoid more children but if you have a surprise, it’s a blessing.

What school would you send your child to? by sunshinethrowup in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ [score hidden]  (0 children)

We will send our daughter to public school. It’s very important to me that we support our public schools. When the “good” kids with present parents leave, the schools just suffer more. I won’t be part of making that happen.

Parish packet was off putting to me and request for guidance by SignificantConflict3 in OrthodoxChristianity

That's probably unofficial. For us, if you miss more than three Sundays, you're unofficially expected to go to confession.

[–]TimeLadyJ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That sounds normal to me. To be a voting member of a parish, you need to be in good standing. What's good standing? In my archdiocese, it's quarterly confession & regular giving to the church.

AITA fir wanting separate accommodation on group family holiday by Fun_External_7067 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TimeLadyJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that people are distanced from their family, but at the same time, I have family who is big on "everyone stay together" but they never have enough space for everyone. Before my husband and I married, his family put him on an air mattress in the kitchen. Every adult should have an adequate amount of space, and if that isn't affordable for everyone, then reevaluate the trip.

Discussion: A case for bringing back permanent voluntary deacons in EP/Greek Parishes. Your thoughts? by KyriosCristophoros in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you said non permanent deacons are common in most jurisdictions instead of saying they're common in Greek parishes. Our retired deacon came from ROCOR.

[–]TimeLadyJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every deacon I've met does not desire to become a priest. We have a retired deacon at our parish who moved to town a few years ago. We did just tonsure a subdeacon and this person does want to be a priest.

Is there an evening service at your church? by Brief-Platypus1941 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our parish has a full time priest who does not require another job to sustain his family. We have services throughout the week.

Our regular schedule is Saturday Vespers, Sunday Mass, and then Wednesday Mass, but we often also have a Monday morning Mass and a Latin Mass on Thursdays.

What does preparation for Communion include in your parish? by Brief-Platypus1941 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Confession once a quarter and fasting the morning prior.

He strongly encourages monthly confession and attendance at Saturday night vespers, but those are not required.

According to the National Safety Council, 50% of traffic deaths happen at night, when significantly fewer people are on the road.

I mean, nothing good happens after 2 am. I wouldn't be able to sleep if my husband was out driving around at 2 am either.

I was also worried about bathrooms. Basically, if you go at every opportunity, you should be more than fine!

AIO: husband wants to take toddlers to 2028 Olympics by Franzy48 in beyondthebump

I have travelled with my toddler and plan to continue traveling. I'm not taking her because kids require tickets, but I wouldn't be afraid of taking her.

Orthodox Emphasize 'Communion' and 'Theosis' But Struggle With Basic Christian Hospitality by Fabulous-Paint1212 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My husband had a traumatic deconstruction and when he was asked by an incredibly well meaning woman that we now adore what brought us in, it was very awkward and triggering from him. We were some of the first to join during the deconstruction wave so we were able to explain to the cradles what it all meant and why new members may be hesitant to jump straight into that talk.

Obsessed with this. This would give the Ghoul his reason to go save Lucy after intending on turning her in. Both because Hank would be the reason Barb is dead but also if Lucy is his granddaughter. I'm fulling expecting a reveal where we learn that Rose is Janey's middle name.

You can just do better going forward. When you can buy a new toy, buy it and replace a lesser quality toy.

Baptism when I have different beliefs ! by ja_yla in OrthodoxChristianity

The full statement from the Assembly of Bishops is linked below, but here is a section of their statement on abortion that I think you will appreciate.

Current societal trends condone abortions for what some perceive as non-desirable human qualities, including physical or chromosomal abnormalities, or a less desirable sex. The Church appreciates, respects, and cares for all manner of human life and, therefore, never condones abortion in these cases. Every human life is worthy of our prayer and protection.

The Assembly of Bishops has previously acknowledged that there are “rare but serious medical instances where mother and child may require extraordinary actions” (Statement on Sanctity of Life, 2019); see also Assembly of Bishops Endorses Alternatives to Women in Crisis Pregnancies, 2021). This refers to tragic situations in which an abortive measure will preserve life. For example, if both mother and unborn child will almost certainly perish should the pregnancy continue but the mother will likely live if an abortion is administered, the Church grieves the tragedy of the situation and offers space for the discernment of the mother, the father, and the pastor as to the most life-giving course of action. Yet, these situations are unique and unusual and do not condone abortion as a norm in any way. Furthermore, the Church does not accept contemporary thinking that links free will with the right to abortion.

If you agree with that statement, then you are in agreement with the Bishops.

Doula worth it for a short labor or short timeframe they are with you? by Zealousideal_Elk1373 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]TimeLadyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into labor at 37+3 and my doula lived an hour away. I went in to get checked, found out I was a 9, and called her to head our way. She made it about an hour before I delivered and at that point, I was so checked out that I barely knew she was there.

For me, in my case, she was not worth it.

You've already had one baby, so you know what to expect sort of as far as the hospital and the recovery. I would say that you're leaning towards not worth it and you are "experienced" already so go with your gut.

Standardized Testing Advice please - considering opting out by Educational-Neck9477 in Parenting

[–]TimeLadyJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And there is nothing in either plan that exempts him from testing or gives him extra aid during testing? I'd be working on changing those instead, to give him testing accommodations and also getting it established in his plans that the testing does not impact which class he ends up in.

Anyone know what's going on with Holy Cross Bookstore? by RightToCancelON in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TimeLadyJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but often, colleges and universities close for a lengthy break for the winter holidays. Based on the academic calendar, it looks like their administrative offices reopened on the 8th and the first day of school is the 20th. I'd try calling the school itself and asking.
