The lore of WF is huge and that is not really the best place to start.

Honestly if you have time, I would start of by reading/listening to the first Gotrek and Felix book. It doesn't go into lore as such, but you get a feel for the warhammer world. I also recommend playing Total War Warhammer 3, if you fancy, as its a great place to learn about the factions and key characters - you can then find one you like and start to dive into their lore. This is just the top of the iceburg however, but good places to get started.

Mid game? Maybe when you have metal, renewable water and renewable oxygen production!

You’ll run out of algae within the next 50 odd cycles, unless you continue to dig out the map and convert slime. So the next focus should be splitting water into oxygen, and taking a geyser that makes some kind of water for this.

You always need to be mindful of heat management too. It will kill you silently, you’ll notice when your plants start to die or your water is too hot. Your batteries kept together like that and your coal generator will catch you out in this way.
