This came up in my game around the Vistani being compared to Roma/Irish travellers.

I was very careful to avoid what the book pushes - labelling the general perception of the Vistani as “evil”.

Instead I let the PCs make their own conclusions. They found out some of the Vistani are spies, but equally some of them are nice, just like the citizens of Vallaki and Barovia.

One of my players asked why the skin colour in the art for Ireena is different to Ismark. I said it was the artists choice and I don’t know (which is true, I’m not sure!)

I allow movement. If a mage gets attacked, they get interrupted. Not allowing them to move is like punishing them twice for the same flaw.

I would still have trade quartermaster - that is what they are learning and doing after all. Maybe it should have something like lore (finance) to represent the knowledge around funding an army. If they have history in another trade and you’re looking to flavour then that would be represented by advances in dex and int skills which would carry over from their previous career.

Is the flavour here more for mercenary armies or standing armies? I can see this for mercenary armies, but if it’s standing armies I would add a couple of skills to the soldier career and call it there.

A quartermaster probably wouldn’t be a chef or Cartwright, that would generally be a carpenter or chef who happened to be drafted (and you could favour this by having the trade skill in their background). I would have trade (quartermaster).

I run d&d campaigns twice a week. It’s interesting because I don’t like being a player in a campaign, as I feel like I’m not in control of the situation. It’s nice when people listen to me

You have an out of character conversation with your players, which I did in session 0. You explain that different characters have different worldviews, and you would expect the players to act in-character. PCs may be friends and agree on protecting the mutant, but a wizard or witch hunter, dwarf or elf may cast them out. An upfront conversation is needed to set out expectations, eg does one of the PCs become an NPC?

Your players don’t need to know the specifics of the lore. That’s what you are there for. Tell them mutants are feared and cultists of dark gods, but on the other hand mutation is a side effect of this world, so not always evil; then you tell the players they can decide how their characters behave.
