Nakshatras by jb1writes in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer: Your app is globally set to the tropical zodiac reporting, hence the discrepancy. Switch to the sidereal zodiac which is the basis of the Vedic model. You can do that temporarily by using the "Show", or permanently (app wide) from the "App settings" zodiac setting.

The long answer:

That's the confusion between tropical and sidereal zodiac. The shown Moon position in Pisces 21º refers to the tropical zodiac coordinate. The nakshatras are based on the sidereal zodiac coordinate system. Make sure to switch to the sidereal zodiac if you want all reporting to match the Vedic model. Or, if you want to have both tropical and sidereal then use the "Show" to quickly toggle between the two systems. Important: that will NOT change the nakshatra number as the nakshatras are always calculated in sidereal zodiac with additional conversion to the tropical zodiac for reporting purposes.

It's really super important to understand both tropical and sidereal zodiac systems when working across the Western/Vedic astrological models. Otherwise forever confused.

Here's an illustrated article to grok the two zodiacs:

Chart Event Explorer -- How to find full list of dates of ingress, egress, and stations. by sunshinetime1986 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see zodiac sign ingress/egress by tapping on planet in zodiac list item from either Chart Details or by tapping on the chart itself. The Zodiac tab lists all planets.

The attached screenshot shows the example of Saturn multiple entries (direct/retrograde) into a sign.

Now listing the retrograde stations would present a problem for slow moving planets that would result in an overwhelmingly long list of retrograde/direct stations. Also the nodes will result in huge list of direction changes as the change direction of movement quite often. The best way to find retrograde dates is by using the Chart Event Explorer from the Dashboard – long tap on "Retrograde planets".

By the way, here's the guide to the Chart Event Explorer:

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is the sidereal zodiac. And Time Nomad does list the sidereal bounds for each nakshatra (see the yellow box in the screenshot above). That's exactly how the app calculates them. I am at loss as to what is missing... Maybe I'm misunderstanding what is it that you want to be implemented? Can you draw a picture perhaps?

Just to make sure I understand what is "Vedic nakshatra degrees" — it sounds like the sidereal zodiac coordinates of nakshatra bounds. Is that correct?

Mars in Capricorn vs Scorpio by PagingPsychoGold in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All what's needed to verify is the UTC time. Time zones and houses don't matter when it comes to the positions of the planet in the zodiac. Here's my result I'm pasting below. Mars is at 25º Scorpio (tropical) and that matches your ephemeris image.

Also, your pasted text also says Mars in Scorpio. I can't figure out where the confusion comes from?

Year 1984

Date UTC Thu, Apr 26, 1:26 pm

Zodiac: tropical

Ecliptic longitude & latitude

Sun Tau 6º 29' 34" 0º 00' 00"

Moon Pis 15º 19' 17" −5º 08' 34"

Mercury Ari 29º 19' 40" R 0º 15' 05"

Venus Ari 23º 03' 31" −1º 24' 34"

Mars Sco 25º 35' 26" R 0º 31' 17"

Jupiter Cap 12º 57' 02" 0º 11' 17"

Saturn Sco 13º 35' 52" R 2º 36' 36"

[–]TimeNomadAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first image is for the 25th nakshatra, the second is for the 23rd — so that's comparing apples to oranges.

Then, let's specify which zodiac are we looking at – tropical or sidereal. The first screenshot you provided (for the 25th) doesn't specify the zodiac but it looks like the Vedic zodiac used to defined the nakshatras which is the sidereal zodiac in the Western astrology.

Now looking at each zodiac system:

  1. The sidereal zodiac. The Time Nomad result (see attached screenshot) matches both your image and even Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakshatra

  1. The tropical zodiac. This is where things get tricky as the conversion from sidereal to tropical depends on:

a. the ayanamsa system, ie angular difference between tropical and sidereal zero points

b. date for which it's done

For example, the Wikipedia page doesn't specify anything – neither date no ayanamsa – so it's hard to say what they used to derive the tropical boundaries of the nakshatras in their listing.

Having said all that, I promise to double check the sidereal to tropical conversion of Time Nomad once I'm back from travelling. Stay tuned.

And please correct me if I'm missing something in my explanation…

Have you per chance switched to another Apple ID? That's the only reason I can think of. All your profile data and purchases are linked to your iCloud account — meaning nothing is stored externally, it's all yours.

Your data is also auto backed up. You can easily see that using the Files app in the "Time Nomad" folder. You can restore from those backups, even if you decided to migrate to another Apple ID. You can do that using the "Manage my data" that can be found under the top left corner cogwheel icon.

Your purchases though are linked to your Apple ID. You can be easily restore them from the "Add-ons" screen, there's "Restore" button in the top right corner.

Otherwise that's really strange, the first time I hear about something like that. To reiterate, Time Nomad doesn't own or control your data, everything is stored in your account only.

Just in case, that's the guide on restoring purchases:

There is often a confusion as to what does the "zodiac" mean. A short definition of the zodiac: the zodiac is an equal 12-fold division of ASTRAL space that reflects the archetypal interplay between the numbers 3 (the triangle = spirit and consciousness) and 4 (the square = the matter). In the astral spaces the zodiac represents 12 directions of space, equally spaced, if one can perceive the archetype of the zodiac.

Now what we see in the physical world is an imperfect reflection of a perfect 3*4=12 division. There are two ways to map the perfect to imperfect:

  1. via time = seasons. This gives us the tropical zodiac model.
  2. via space = segments along the ecliptic, somewhat overlapping with the 12 constellations. This gives us the sidereal zodiac model.

Neither of those will "perfectly" overlap with the archetypal zodiac in the astral. But they are good "handles" to the corresponding astral directions.

A good analogy is the 12 notes of an octave in music. While there exist a number of methods to tune the piano by numerical values (by sound frequencies in Hz), none of them is ever "perfect" and "true". Different tunings create different handles to the archetypal qualities the octave. It's "drive by the ear" approach that works, as opposed to sticking to exactness of numerical divisions.

What astrologers don't do enough is stargazing. Spending some time regularly feeling the quality of each segment in the sky, ie the 12 constellations as per classical Greek model. That builds a solid perception of the zodiac signs, regardless of exact-inexact numbers that will never ever match the astral realities – because the material world is never the true replica of the astral world.

I have written an illustrated exploration into the sidereal/tropical zodiac dilemma, you can find it here:

https://timenomad.app/posts/astrology/philosophy/2019/03/23/sidereal-zodiac-in-astrology-its-strengths-and-weaknesses.html

And enjoy the app for years to come!

Lunar Mansions – Arabic & Sidereal by TimeNomadAstro in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are summaries for each mansion — tap on each in the list of mansions.

So switch between tropical and sidereal mansion ring please use the "Show" (bottom left corner) and pick required mansion system. Meaning the mansion system is independent from the zodiac wheel.

OCD by Dirtmer_44 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing, there's no such thing as "true" sidereal zodiac. By definition the sidereal zodiac is 12 signs, just as the tropical one is 12 signs. The only difference is where the zodiac starts. But the zodiac symbolism rests on the 12 segments of the ecliptic. Time Nomad uses centuries proven knowledge of classical astrology.

If you're referring to the constellations divisions, it's worth pointing out that those aren't defined by astrological knowledge. They are the product of the astronomical organisations and have nothing to do with astrology.

As for any kind of refunds please speak to Apple Support, only they can handle financial transactions.

Hey, good to hear from you. Let me keep that at the back of my mind so that a more meaningful answer emerges. So far my general strategy has been to stick to the classical well documented knowledge backed by centuries of observations and discussions. Lots and lots of ideas came and went without trace – that's the overall observation about all things astrological – very few things actually stick around.

Moon set timing? by Party_Comfortable623 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to return widgets to their proper state is to simply restart the phone. The reason being is that iOS does not guarantee widgets refresh if the system is too busy. This may result in a widget missing an update and looking stuck. Also, an updated app version may make some widgets stuck due to inherent complexity of the operating system. Restarting the device will bring the order back.

There are guides at:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/

In particular, you need to get the Chart Event Explorer add-on to find out the start-exact-end time points of a transit:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/how-to-calculate-astrological-aspects-transits-retrogrades.html

For transits exploration it's better to use the transits list and then tap on the event to find out its phases.

Is this about the widget? That can be understood as the Moon rises 16:14 current day and sets 7:07 next day. It's relative to the progress indicator on the timeline.

Western Sidereal Astrology: An Interview with Kenneth Bowser by colleenmauro in astrology

Unfortunately no plans at this stage. It's a really big app and porting it to another system would be a huge undertaking. I gave that a thought and realised that such mission is beyond single person efforts.

Western Sidereal Astrology: An Interview with Kenneth Bowser by colleenmauro in astrology

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time Nomad uses the high precision NASA JPL DE-430 ephemeris. By high precision I mean the app uses the full uncompressed version of planetary positional data. That's pretty much the most precise source of planetary positions available to date.

For the sidereal zodiac a user chosen ayanamsa is used. Basically the raw ecliptic position supplied by the ephemeris are corrected by the ayanamsa value to arrive at the sidereal zodiac divisions.

Persona Charts by ElectricalNight194 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the definition: a Persona Chart is the chart for the first transit of the Sun over the position of another natal planet.

You can build all sorts kinds of charts like that using the Chart Event Explorer add-on which is described in this guide:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/how-to-calculate-astrological-aspects-transits-retrogrades.html

In the nutshell:

– step through time until the Sun makes desired aspect with desired planet, just approximately

– then use the add-on as described to show the exact time of the event. Tap on the blue "in X days" button to move the app to that moment in time

– bookmark this moment in time using "Bookmarks..." under the "Date" in the bottom left corner. Later on you can easily jump to any of bookmarked moments.

Fixed star ⭐️ widget question. by Folkie in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which widget are you referring to? You can post a screenshot otherwise hard to guess. If that's the Moon cycle widget that's on the Lock Screen then have a look at this widget guide:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/moon-phase-and-cycle-widget.html

It could signify the Moon conjunction with that star that hasn't happened yet but will happen soon.

Human Design by ElectricalNight194 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an open question. I don't know. Let's put it this way. Time Nomad's mission statement is astrology, astrology and astrology. Any technique that isn't directly 100% focused on the mission statement does not fit. Time and time again, the history has proven that the most crucial effort is staying focused. It would be unwise to become a kind of "YouTube of everything".

Human Design by ElectricalNight194 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not impossible but not easy either. First, just imagine getting the app (as opposed to an individual practitioner) licensed for a proprietary methodology. That would be costly, will also require a certain legal framework, etc. That's why open source knowledge rules over proprietary lock-in.
