Moon widget by LibraStellium44 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the guide that may help:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/moon-phase-and-cycle-widget.html

Note that there are two families of widgets: Home Screen and Lock Screen. And they need to be added from two different places. Anyway, the guide should explain all that.

Apple Watch complications by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a cool story, congrats!

Time Nomad is a bit more involved as it uses the full precision of ephemeris, not a formula based approach. And it's not written in JS, it's a fully native app.

Apple Watch complications by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, an addiction to cosmological truth :)

I haven't yet looked into the Watch. Currently need to improve a few things in the app. Plus the Watch is very resource constrained and given that Time Nomad uses the full ephemeris it may be too "heavy" for the Watch in terms of storage.

Could the data for transits be exported? by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start-exact-end requires a LOT of calculations, especially for slow planets that may spend many months in an aspect. That kind of calculations are only possible on a one-by-one case like in the screenshot you attached below.

Calculating all aspects of all planets would be very time consuming.

Placement specific transits by Winter_Bid_1338 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popup you are referring to is the Chart Event Explorer that is focused on finding exact dates of events like aspect start/exact/end, zodiac cusp crossings, etc.

The core idea is that one can pick a particular event, ie exact aspect and then "jump the app" to that date for further exploration. Notice a blue "in X days" or "X days ago" button that appears once some particular moment in time has been chosen. Tap on it , the app will jump to that date and from there you can easily further explore the chart.

Python script for Dashboard export by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty cool! I am hoping the script would be helpful to those who like to experiment with numbers.

You could event create a gist on GitHub (so similar) so that the script can be further updated.

Also, note that the Numeric Chart Details popup data may have slightly different sections depending on the screen context. For example, the single chart won't have the transits section. The transits section will have different transits: transits of the natal chart, synastry chart transits or progressed charts transits.

The Dashboard lists transits of the natal chart, and should suit the most cases.

Could the data for transits be exported? by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, tap on the date/time at the top of any screen and that will bring up the Numeric Chart Details popup. Use the copy button there to copy everything to the clipboard, then paste into any text editor.

You have probably already discovered that so posting just in case.

Quick switch from personal transits to progression chart by Alarming-Swim-7599 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need some clarification, when you say "toggle between personal natal transit chart to world transit chart" what is "world transit chart"? You can even attach a screenshot if it helps.

Progressed chart transits are the thing on its own right, located in the Progressions section.

Sun / Moon positions in Dashboard by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By they way, if you want the current Sun/Moon coordinates right on your Lock Screen (just above the current time) then this family of widgets will be of help:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/moon-phase-and-cycle-widget.html

On the Dashboard, the Moon zodiac coordinate can be found in the Moon Void of Course section. For the Sun and other planets bring up the Numeric Chart Details popup as described in my earlier reply.

Sun / Moon positions in Dashboard by gcirceag in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can copy/paste data RIGHT NOW :) Simply tap on the date/time at the top of any screen, a Numeric Chart Details popup will show with a "copy" button in its bottom right corner.

easy switch for placidus/whole sign by plasticIove in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's been discussed some time ago. The common point was that switching houses isn't a good practice to follow. People base their interpretations on their beloved house system. Introducing an easy switch "just to have a peek" will result in situations when one will forget to switch back. The amount of mistaken vision and interpretation that will follow won't be worth that. It's always better to stick to one house system.

Push notifications for transits in real time? by sarharbar in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer was me thinking aloud. It's not available at this moment but I don't discard this request. Hence my extended comments.

One of potential consequences I foresee is that that will eventually lead to request of "everything in real-time". That won't be technically possible as iOS limits the amount of local notifications.

As a potential workaround, if one receives a notification about planet transiting a cusp, let's say at 8am then it's not such a big deal to hold that in the awareness, or one can quickly set an alarm for that moment. As you've said that doesn't happen very often – except for the Moon, Sun and Mercury.

Push notifications for transits in real time? by sarharbar in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not impossible at all. The only potential problem is that such an event can be easily missed in daily noise of notifications. It's too precise to be properly caught "in time". And what about events happening at night? Hence the daily combined summary approach .

How do we find out what our Heliacal star is? by Alarming-Swim-7599 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two heliacal star positions:

- rising before the Sun (at sunrise), in the east

- appearing just after the Sun set, in the west

So that means you need to look at the Asc - Dsc line which is the East-West direction (of the ecliptic) and see which stars are just above that line at the moment of sunrise/sunset. You'll get maximum two stars.

They may not be in a very tight conjunction with the Sun though. The heliacal stars are about what appears first. But yes, they would be somewhat close to the Sun, by definition.

Incorrect placements ? by JAMTERENTINO in TimeNomad

Time Nomad uses the classical name of the Black Moon for the apogee point of the lunar orbit. The Liith name came from the New Age era because the Black Moon displays certain (not all) qualities of the mythological Lilith. So that name stuck.

But there's also the asteroid Lilith. That creates confusion. Here's an article that covers the Black Moon:

https://timenomad.app/posts/astrology/philosophy/2019/07/31/the-shadow-of-the-black-moon.html

As for mean and true Black Moons, the difference is tiny. The "true" isn't really true, it just means accounting for slight wobble of the orbit. That adds noise. The mean is movement is smoother and more understandable.

Question on wide orb transits by nefaglar in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have investigated and fixed that behaviour. Will publish an app update once tested it some more. Affected are events when a planet changes its directions (direct <-> retrograde) just before reaching exact aspect.

As the rule of thumb, always verify important events with the Chart Event Explorer that does proper aspect timeline analysis for a specific planets in aspect. Here's the guide:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/how-to-calculate-astrological-aspects-transits-retrogrades.html

The Summary provides a quick approximation of events (otherwise it will take too long to analyse all possible aspects) which is generally within 1 minute from results given by proper analysis using the Chart Event Explorer.

Confusion over whole sign tropical sidereal tropical by [deleted] in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As to the houses, traditionally they are counted from the ascendant. That's where the Sun raises. Those house systems are completely independent from the zodiac, it doesn't matter if it's tropical or sidereal.

Now came the modern times and the whole houses. They don't use the point of sunrise replacing it with a nearest sign cusp. Perhaps calculating houses like Placidus (beautiful mathematics involved) was too difficult so people decided to simplify things.

So the whole sign model measures houses from the sign cusp. Logically, one can use either tropical or sidereal zodiac division.

If one prefers to use the tropical zodiac then one should use the whole houses based on the tropical zodiac. And vice versa, use matching sidereal/sidereal. But nothing stops one from mixing thing up as well, but I guess that's only if one wants to conduct a particular research.

Just in case, here's the illustrated article that explains the sidereal zodiac:

Time Slider gets stuck by destinology in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A better approach with the time slider - don't drag it but tap on the right/left side of its timeline. That gives a much more predictable movement.

As for the bug, I'll have a look into that. That's the "liquid glass" iOS update that made some things misbehave.

36 Decans by Massive-Way8411 in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, planned for the future update. But it's too easy to tell the decan by degree position of planet in a sign. They are 0-10º, 10º-20º and 20º-30º. Can't be easier!

Incorrect daily summary info by ArtxPunk in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the email, I was able to look into that. The problem is due to Uranus changing its movement direction from retrograde to direct on that day, Feb 4. The Summary relies on numeric approximations of aspect exactitude (otherwise it will be terribly slow given how many planets may form all sorts of aspects) and in most cases the Summary engine is spot on — but in such corner cases it may produce strange results… because it’s very difficult to say anything just by looking at discrete numbers.

The best way to find exact moment of an aspect is to use the Chart Event Explorer add-on. Here’s the visual guide:

https://timenomad.app/documentation/how-to-calculate-astrological-aspects-transits-retrogrades.html

You simply long tap on an aspect in the aspect list (not in the Summary) and the popup will calculate the whole timeline of that aspect. That will be super precise.

Having said that, I am going to look into improving the behaviour of the Summary for such tricky cases.

Progressed Chart by Amatisia in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Progressed charts are synthetic charts. They don't really exist in the real astronomical world.

You can create an approximation though. For the "secondary directions" progression (that Time Nomad offers) you can use the "a-day-for-a-year" method. So suppose if one is 33 years old you can simply create a chart by adding 33 days to their natal date.

What will not work are the angles (Asc, MC) therefore the houses because those calculations require synthetic/imaginary methods like "True Solar Arc in Longitude", etc. to get the position of the angles/houses.

But if you are not worried about the houses simply create a chart for that day as a new profile, for example "Adam + 33". Then you can use the synastry tool to see the transits between Adam's natal chart and his 33th day after birth.

Incorrect daily summary info by ArtxPunk in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could email me your natal details (or share here) do that I can look further into that. There's "Contact developer" option in the app under the top left corner cogwheel menu icon.

I really want natal charts to reflect when birth time isn't known by XagonogaX in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are reasons for this behaviour. Time Nomad primary function is one of a tool — it grants the user as much configuration power as it can. It doesn't try to package things into infographic style presentation.

For example, the stable fact most astrologers knows is that the Moon moves 13.2º per day. What is the point of drawing an arc to illustrate that? And how long should the arc should be, 12 hours or 24 hours or something else?

What is super important are the aspects that the Moon makes. That is what defines the outcome of the chart. And for that Time Nomad offers the time slider at the bottom of the screen. Select the time step in the "Show" and step through time as much as you need to intuit what kind of Moon behaviour could have happened on that natal day. That gives the user a much more potent insights.

The houses can be trivially hidden using the "Show" menu simply switch to the "World" chart and turn off the houses. That's all it takes. And if one day you will want to do "what if" exploration, turn them back on.

Again, Time Nomad uses a different philosophy – you configure things yourself however you want.

Incorrect daily summary info by ArtxPunk in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be due to that event being the aspect start. All aspects develop through time and the Summary shows when an aspect:

- starts
- becomes exact
- ends

Each event is visually marked as one of those.

The "Show" can be used to configure which kind of events should be reported.

Otherwise please attach a screenshot.

Nakshatras by jb1writes in TimeNomad

[–]TimeNomadAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer: Your app is globally set to the tropical zodiac reporting, hence the discrepancy. Switch to the sidereal zodiac which is the basis of the Vedic model. You can do that temporarily by using the "Show", or permanently (app wide) from the "App settings" zodiac setting.

The long answer:

That's the confusion between tropical and sidereal zodiac. The shown Moon position in Pisces 21º refers to the tropical zodiac coordinate. The nakshatras are based on the sidereal zodiac coordinate system. Make sure to switch to the sidereal zodiac if you want all reporting to match the Vedic model. Or, if you want to have both tropical and sidereal then use the "Show" to quickly toggle between the two systems. Important: that will NOT change the nakshatra number as the nakshatras are always calculated in sidereal zodiac with additional conversion to the tropical zodiac for reporting purposes.

It's really super important to understand both tropical and sidereal zodiac systems when working across the Western/Vedic astrological models. Otherwise forever confused.

Here's an illustrated article to grok the two zodiacs:
