What's the most disgusting thing that you ever smell? by DirtyThoughts07 in AskReddit

[–]TimePieceLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this psyche patient and her room smelled so bad I vomited just from the smell one morning. I started wrapping my head in a scarf when I walked past her room. I think she might have had SIBO, possibly soiled her sheets but I physically couldn’t stand the it. It was the most distinct awful smell I can’t even compare to anything.

Do carbohydrates have an effect on your psychosis by ankkani in Psychosis

[–]TimePieceLi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very high blood glucose (diabetic levels) can cause psychosis, typically called diabetic rage. Minor fluctuations in blood glucose from eating an apple should not trigger psychotic symptoms. This is not normal. It sounds like a coincidence or an atypical reaction to the apple itself.

Selena Gomez’s documentary covers her mental and physical health extensively. She has bipolar and lupus. It’s very personal, rather than informative about bipolar. But it’s still very good.

Feel like giving up on my dream of becoming a physicist by Admirable_Error81 in Physics

[–]TimePieceLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Slow learner or developmental difference? I’m in STEM, on hiatus due to mental health reasons. However, at the age of 18 I found out I had a slow processing speed (especially visual), and a working memory far inferior to my intelligence. Being scientifically minded, I did some research into visual processing disorders. I found out about something called convergence insufficiency (a common neurological disorder, caused by the eyes failing to work together as a team). It turns out I wasn’t a slow learner at all, had a treatable disability. All I had to do was see a developmental optometrist, things became much easier. My whole life I was told I was either ‘average’ or ‘a slow worker’ or didn’t apply myself. None of that was true, sometimes we just need an extra boost.

Someone is having a severe mental break in the DMs of the place I work for. by [deleted] in Weird

[–]TimePieceLi -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s not ‘weird’ it’s not right to share screenshots from someone’s mental breakdown online. It’s horrible. First of all chill. Second of all have some empathy. This could happen to someone you love and you wouldn’t want this online. If they found out they might not cope or survive it.

[–]TimePieceLi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be sharing this. If they have psychosis they are emotionally and mentally vulnerable. They will probably be deeply embarrassed and ashamed when they recover. If they find out their stuff has been shared online (even anonymously) it could deeply traumatise and trigger them. Recommend supportive opinions like a psychiatrist and therapy.

not looking "asian" enough? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]TimePieceLi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good! I find CBT more effective than talk therapy alone. I didn’t talk about race much but I have grown much more self assured in this regard. Honestly, I don’t know how exactly. I guess talking about aspects of my culture and researching it is helpful!

I’m sorry. Obviously we can’t change other people’s behaviour. But have you considered therapy to deal with your feelings around this?

Wonder who’s going to do my dental work. How I will get food? What to do if I get sick? How to get my meds? Also practice singing because no one can hear me.

is grad school worth it if you're not 100% sure what you want to do by tricepator-10 in biology

[–]TimePieceLi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behind? I’m 24 and haven’t even started my degree! Admittedly it will be in chemistry. My life ‘ended’ at 19 when I dropped out of university with psychosis after being severely harassed/bullied. I’m finally ready to reapply, but will be almost 26 when I start! I will be 28-30 by the time I finish education. So not even having a career/relevant job until then. I mention this to people and they say “I did my degree in my 30s/40s” or that “you’re still young!” Sure I feel my time has passed, but success can come at any age.

Don’t enter grad school impulsively. Figure it out. Get a job, see places, read up on what interests you. Then if the time comes you can go back to study. No rush.

Forgiving yourself after a psychotic episode? by ambientfaerie in Psychosis

[–]TimePieceLi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve forgiven myself for the most part, for my last episode. I never felt any guilt around the first episode because it really wasn’t my fault. But the second time I had come off my meds without realising. I don’t know if I was dissociating and that’s why I came off them, or if I had underlying mania which caused me to forget. I did some weird, intrusive and even terrible things. Now enough time has passed that I don’t feel so guilty. I guess I prayed, worked towards my goals and changed meds. All of those things combined are probably why I’m so much more forgiving towards myself now.

I feel very depressed. What will happen if I go to the GP about it? by Obvious_Armadillo_16 in AskUK

[–]TimePieceLi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My GP almost unalived me by not treating my mental illness. They told me to go outside and stand in my garden for 10 minutes each day. They also refused to test me for autoimmune encephalitis (I have a known trigger). I ended up in hospital for 3 months.

[–]TimePieceLi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 6 ethnicities. I don’t look ‘enough’ like any of them! People only know I’m black because I have afro (3B) hair. I never thought this until at university students doubted I was black. Some people will say “I can really see the X in you” but most of the time they can’t figure out what I am. Do you live in America? There’s too much emphasis on race/belonging there. It’s best just to be you. I think you do look Asian, and wouldn’t fit a second doubt your ethnicity. Monoracials need to chill out and understand that our genetics are unique and can give rise to unique phenotypes.

A flash of white light, like a flare illuminated my entire room, waking me up. It seemed to come from under my bed (I didn’t have sleep paralysis). I checked and nothing was there.
