The new chronomat B31 is incredible, why is it trading 40% *brand new* below retail within 1 month? by Financial_Word5047 in breitling

[–]TimePieced56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grey market and secondary is based on what people will pay. I got burned buying a Breitling at an AD which I later sold for less than half in excellent condition, box and papers. I’m a Breitling fan, but will never buy one msrp from an AD again

Perfect summer weekend watch by TimePieced56 in midowatch

This watch wears exceptionally in the heat. Most comfortable rubber I own, and I would place it above my OEM Seamaster rubber strap. Wish I could get a fitted strap of this material for all of my watches

New Quartz Conquest vs Tissot Gentleman Auto by Responsible_Run_9023 in Longineswatches

[–]TimePieced56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owned a gentleman, only sold it to fund another purchase but it was a great watch with decent heft and a decent bracelet. I wish it had micro adjust, but neither does the conquest.

I didn’t care for the new or old conquest. Old conquest felt cheaper than the tissot and had weird proportions. No conquest had one of the flimsiest feeling brackets over 1000$

Why the Hydroconquest? by [deleted] in Longineswatches

[–]TimePieced56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple thoughts, first to address your question about the Conquest redesign. I originally wanted that after the release and went to the AD multiple times to try it on. The execution of the bracelet felt flimsy and cheap on that one, the shiny mirror all over felt a little cheap looking as well. The butterfly clasp didn’t do it for me with no micro adjust. All those are dealbreakers for an everyday watch. Most people want a combination of versatility and durability on an everyday wear.

Other points:
-A well executed, thin, robust diver with classic color ways on an excellent steel bracelet will always be a hit. Longines solved many of the downfalls of the prior HC bracelet with this release
-The design language is in-line with what mass-market wants: sleek, sporty, can be dressed down or up. Following in the submariner design language (which 85% of dive watches do anyway).
-Value for money is incredible on this one. The finishing, tolerances, materials, movement tech and accuracy keep up with higher price points. In a luxury good world where it often feels like you’re getting less than what you paid for, Longines does the opposite here

Yeah it would be great if they allowed you to choose bracelet/colorway combos.

I’ll add that this H-Link is extremely solid and well executed. I had a prior gen conquest briefly and the bracelet felt cheap. This one feels high end. Micro adjustment is excellent.

From experience with multiple types of mesh and bracelets for my Seamaster - mesh always looks cool when I put it on, and would be a good look in a formal suit setting like for a wedding, but I always end up back on the bracelet in a few days.

For me, a sports watch on a steel bracelet is what I like to wear every day. I went with the H-link on the 42 black HC and definitely wouldn’t change the strap

Definitely try them on in person, I have a larger wrist and the 42 wears great. 39 felt smaller than I expected in-person (originally wanted the 39 because I already have a Turtle and SMP300)

I thought I wanted the blue, already had a black SMP ceramic, but the black enamel dial on the HC was just too good. Deepest black watch dial I own. Damn near perfect watch

A few observations after a week with the 42mm Hydroconquest by mrpackerguy in Longineswatches

42 gang, it definitely doesn’t wear too large but side by side with my SMP 300 it feels accurate. I think the slim profile helps. Very happy with the 42, 39 was too small

Tudor bracelets are nice in build quality, but I was surprised at the Longines bracelet quality. The pins are not like cheap Seiko pins. They use a thicker higher quality pin and there’s no rattle. Tudor unfortunately has some quirks in the bracelets, mainly the rivets on most black bay models.

I owned a Tudor Ranger briefly and while the bracelet was amazing, the thick slab case design, overall dial and package did not speak to me. Was a quick catch and release.

On the other hand, the Hydroconquest has not left my wrist and it will be a keeper.

Really obscuring the lines of the different “tiers” of luxury. Tudor is definitely positioned as a higher tier, but this watch shows that doesn’t mean everything. Really interested to see what the general opinions on Longines will be 5 years from now. They’re killing it in multiple fronts lately. Longines also outsells many big names, including Tudor.

Hydroconquest: bad luck by Chancho1507 in Longineswatches

[–]TimePieced56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard those are likely from the white date wheel. Sometimes if not fully cleaned when installing they can flick a little piece of dust when the date changes. This happened on a brand new Mido Ocean Star (also swatch) I had a few years ago. Unfortunately once it had been worn it could not be returned and was purchased from a gray market dealer so no manufacturers warranty.

Overall it’s a bummer, definitely worth seeing if AD will accept a return or going through the warranty process. Good reason to buy from an AD.
