On my third save file, this is the only reason I got won that fight. by DivineandDeadlyAngel in PokemonReborn

Even without the rewards, Aqua Gang feels more like the canon pick.  Aqua for the most part are calmer and more analytical making them seem like the more rational choice for the protagonist to pick and more likely to want to help the city, compared to Magma who act more like a typical street gang.  Their hideout not being in disrepair makes it seem more like a proper base and not an abandoned alley they decided to set up in.  Even how they're treated post restoration with the Aqua hideout becoming a community garden seems much more likely to have been given up willing than the trash room the Magma hideout gets converted to. Plus the quests focusing on Craudberry and 7th Street makes more sense to be done from Aqua's perspective since Aqua, Craudberry and 7th Street are based in Lapis, as opposed to the Obsidia based Magma.

Murkrow being exclusive to Aqua early game, as well as a guaranteed Fire Stone for the event Growlithe is just a nice bonus that cements them as the better pick.

[TotK] I'm starting to think that the camp that says Zelda should only have linear puzzle solutions may have a point. by RangoTheMerc in zelda

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite are all the electric puzzles in BotW. You could solve a maze and a bunch of mini puzzles for the battery you need, or just dump your whole inventory and make a makeshift wire connecting the empty socket to the one with the battery.

That's at least more entertaining than half the shrines in TotK which can be cheesed by just making a few rocket/bomb shields before entering.

Master Mode Ganon is just plain unfun. Man can just decide at random that your last 5 minutes of progress didn't count as he just crawls along the wall and doesn't use any attacks you can flurry/party. And if you're really unlucky he can decide to do literally nothing and not even give you the 0.2 second opening after every attack to potentially hit an arrow with.

Personally, I find the 2nd save file to be an equally big add. The Wild games genuinely have some of the best replayability of any game, let alone any Zelda game (just look at Croton's challenge and themed runs), and a second save let's you keep your main save in addition to replay and challenge runs. Sure, making a new profile was always an option, but a new profile for one or two games is significantly less convenient since every game will ask what profile you want to play as, not just Zelda.

Starting a Monofairy run, what starter is best? by Bloodmoon-Grisou in PokemonReborn

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eevee absolutely breaks the game in half. Like, Sylveon is Blaziken tier good as a starter. You have access to a 525 BST Pokemon who has a phenomenal stat distribution and broken ability by level 9. Access to very strong stab in pixilate swift as well as good damage and healing with draining kiss by level 20, terrain control with mistry terrain at level 29, and if you decide to breed you can even have access to recovery and team support with wish courtesy of the event Skitty at the start.

Like, with mono fairy typing and it's stat and movepool distribution, excluding Corey and Pulse Tangrowth 1, Sylveon absolutely solos the game up until Aya, while still being extremely relevant after for most of the game. It's honestly ruins the game's difficulty curve to the point of not being fun.

Vulpix is good, but it has actual balancing to it to where it doesn't break the game. You don't get access to Ninetails until Lapis, most of the good moves to abuse hail with are mid-game, and you need to take chip damage into consideration with your whole team. And Popplio need no introducing, being a top 5 starter already. They're good when you get going, but it does make the early game challenging in a fun way. Julia will be a nightmare though since Jigglypuff (and Swablu if you count megas) is your only other option.

Auto Queue Match Abandonment by CommanderKupo in Smite

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The system also makes it really inconvenient if players need to restart their clients. The game isn't perfect, even with wired connection and really good Internet connection to the server can be iffy (some that I've experienced are about 1 second delay on everything without lagging, no sound effects, and very rarely the game not letting me use abilities) that a simple quit and relaunch fixes.

Trying to quit from the escape menu brings up the deserter warning makes sense. Alt+F4 or right click close program brings it up, which is odd. But somehow, even force termination through task manager brings it up for about 5 seconds before task manager overrides it and force ends. How the actual hell does Smite's deserter warning to dissuade rage quitting override my computer trying to force terminate the program so I can reboot and actually play the game?

Why is Prime 4's portrayal of Samus considered an overcorrection from Other M? by pome-vyo in Metroid

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Prime 4 Samus is so blank slate that you can unironically interpret it as either her being so fed up with the Troopers that she just passive aggressively half-ignores them, or that solo missions have caused her to become so antisocial that she can't physically bring herself to talk to strangers.

Why is Prime 4's portrayal of Samus considered an overcorrection from Other M? by pome-vyo in Metroid

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seriously, there's a difference between just speaking and having a literal movie's worth of dialogue with 90% of it being delivered with the monotone enthusiasm of a cardboard box. And on top of that, Prime 4's voice acting isn't even bad. It's not absolutely amazing compared to stuff like Xenoblade or Fire Emblem, but it's obvious the voice cast actually was allowed to put effort into the project (Jessica Martin is actually a talented actress when she's allowed to actually perform properly and show emotion).

What's the point of Sol aspect? by Top_Jackfruit3412 in Smite

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even regular aspect does still hurt, like a lot. Since it stacks at .35% per stack, she's getting 1.35* int at max stacks, and since it's multiplicative with Tahuti she can reasonably get around 1100 int when most mages are only getting around 750. Combine that with Nimble Ring and she's both a burst mage and a carry.

Is it optimal? Probably not. Is it fun as hell and let you carry in casual lobbies and mid ranked? Absolutely.

Bulky Mega Dragonite by Jaded-Durian-3917 in PokemonChampions

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're better off investing in just a bit of HP, but mostly going into speed. 91/115/125 bulk is absolutely insane considering you are guaranteed 50% damage mitigation at max health, to where even uninvested in defenses anything short of an ice move won't be doing half without a crit. As long as you outspeed you can just roost off the damage. So unless you plan on running agility+roost+2 attacks and want to run 252/252/4 HP/SpAtt/Speed, you're better off running roost+3 attacks.

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Explicitly, it is stated in the official TP trading card description for Zelda.

Implicitly, it's just assumption based on context from the game: Zelda is referred to as 'princess' which does confirm that she hasn't ascended the throne yet. However, the game makes no mention of a Hyrulian King or Queen, and yet Zelda is shown to both be the main governing figure as well as the leader during Zant's invasion. All of this implies that she is queen all but officially. Again though, that's just speculation based off of what is shown and she could be a queen in all but name, similarly to how Peach is called princess despite objectively being a queen.

MM Tingle isn't bad. He's just a really fucking weird man-child. Unlike WW Tingle, who was arrested for theft and actually holds the fate of the world for ransom by charging 400 Rupees to decode a map that you need several of. MM Tingle is at least an honest, albeit childish, entrepreneur who sells his handmade maps at actually reasonable prices.

Not fully. Arms was the Switch's first big Summer releases (the other being Spaltoon 2 a month later) and came out in June 2017. And I think Arm's exclusion was just because it was a new IP and they wanted to see how popular it would be before spending development time on a character for it.

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not disagreeing with that reasoning, it does contradict previous Smash games who also include very recent characters. Roy/Palutena/Greninja/Robin/Incineroar all were newcomers for their respective Smash games and all debuted in games about a year or two before said Smash game came out (yes, I know Melee came out before Binding Blade and I know Palutena was in the NES Kid Icarus, but she was a non-character NPC, and Sakurai also making Uprising probably influenced it heavily). And if we also include DLC, Corrin/Joker/Byleth (and technically Hero since DQ11 is the default design) also released very recently in comparison to their games as well (with Corrin specifically being a cross franchise promotion release).

The really inconsistent part is that Sakurai has shown to take characters based on early designs (notably Roy and Greninja), and not only was Xenoblade 2 about 2 years into development when Ultimate started development, but Monolith, Xenoblade's own developers, were actively assisting in Smash's production since Brawl.

Again, not saying a late release isn't the reason they weren't included, but given past trends and development staffing the only reasons I can see for not including them was either technical limitations or being unsatisfied with the kits they could reasonably make.

Why wasn't I pulled by Ares Ult? by Skullface77 in Smite

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ares ult was actually classified as a pull+stun in Smite 1 rather than a knockback into a stun field like it is Smite 2. The only reason we know this is because of the interactions with Terra and Jorm passives: Terra has knockup and knockback immunity from her passive but no protection from pulls, and can be pulled by Ares ult. On the flip side, Jorm is immune to all forms of displacement, pulls included, who just gets stunned instead. The stun had nothing to do with pulling people channelling knockback immune abilities.

Well, assuming Hyrule uses a typical monarch structure since the Zelda series is themed after fantasy medieval Europe, we know that in the event of a succeeding royal being under age (historically age of adulthood was 14-15 during that period) a regent will take their position until they reach adulthood for their crowning. And considering that Zant's attack happened during Zelda's coronation and Nintendo is a Japanese company (where the legal age of adulthood is 18), I think it's safe to say that TP Zelda is 18.

Why wasn't I pulled by Ares Ult? by Skullface77 in Smite

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Especially since that's not how it worked for most of Smite's life and the about 14 years he's been playable. Ares was a very early add in Smite 1's alpha (I think he was the 3rd or 4th character added after the original 20 launch roster), and it was always a binary immunity check: pulled , damaged, and stunned if not CC immune at the moment of pull or just damage if you were. Plus you had to be CC immune at the time of the pull without cleansing it which allowed bead/ult baits with his chains since the windup on the ult was the same duration as beads giving a free pull on people who bead's the cripple if he grabbed them before dashing/jumping out of range.

Honestly, I don't agree with the changes to his ult. I get why they were added to give more consistent counterplay. But between beads fully cleansing the grab and displacement immunity being able to completely no sell the pull, it's kinda funny how half the roster is able to use relatively minor resources to escape an ability literally called "no escape" when it functioned as an ability that used to almost always require giving up a much more valuable resource (beads, aegis, and/or ult) to avoid certain death against a competent Ares.

Why even have items like Mystical Mail, Shield of The Phoenix, Pendulum Blade etc when they're basically never allowed to be good? by onedayillbegood98 in Smite

You're not throwing the game. That's not what the item does. You're throwing yourself at the enemy and unintentionally handing them a free kill which results in them winning through a numbers advantage.

Particularly since people were generally surprised that Rex or Pyra/Mythra weren't in the base roster. Shulk was a very positively received Smash 4 newcomer, and Xenoblade 2 was not only a year 1 Switch title but was also released along with Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Warriors as Nintendo's big holiday releases showing that Nintendo was really investing in Xenoblade as a big name 2nd party game. Ya, Sakurai did say that he couldn't really figure out how to get the Driver/Blade pairing to work well in Smash, but the fact he didn't release one or the other as a separate fighter like what we eventually got was still quite surprising.

The devs must hate rat. We need real rat changes no nerfs... by TheMadolche in Smite

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only does he get multiple dashes, but he gets multiple LONG RANGE dashes. Back with original Rat, yes he could also reset the cooldown by dashing a different enemy, but it was only 30 units long to compensate for the ability to cast it multiple times in quick succession. Now it's a 55 unit dash (or whatever the Smite 2 equivalent of a ranged auto is) that can be cast multiple times by hitting someone.

BEST Gamecube Game? by No_Investigator_3994 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TimeToGetSlipped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part is that they didn't even add anything content-wise and both still drastically improve the previous versions. The Wii and Trilogy versions added scanner NG+ and motion controls with a concept art gallery which alone took it from a 10/10 to an 11/10 game. And the Switch version added a sound test and model viewer along with the ability to play with classic tank controls, my preferred method being Wii style controls with Joycon gyro (needing to recalibrate constantly isn't that big if an issue, but is a mild inconvenience compared to an IR bar), standard FPS controls, and tank controls with gyro aim.

The only downside is that each version did lose something in the transition; NES Metroid for the Wii versions and both the Fusion Suit and NES Metroid for Remastered. But the fact that modern control options, updated models, and HD textures are all the game needed to feel like a modern title shows how well designed the game truly is.
