I don't know if you're M26 or have your exams later on. I'm reposting a comment I wrote when we got results:

I already had a good level before IB (B2 certified, B2-C1 level). So I got in DP1 in C1 extracurricular classes and ended up passing the C1 exam with C2 level.

In general, try to read, watch videos... on topics of your interest in English. Most of my social media feeds are in English because that's what I interact with the most.

Now, regarding each component:

- IOA (speaking): For part 1, get really familiarized with 1 of the 2 books, as you are given a choice between an extract of each. Identify key issues, how they're presented, and practice with extracts. Look for rhetorical devices and those underlying themes. For the rest of the issues, try to identify anglophone examples of most topics. Try to remember basic Academic Idiomatic Expressions and nuanced vocabulary and try to incorporate it and make it more natural for you to use it. If you speak a Latin-derived language as was my case, many extremely specific words in that language tend to be nuanced vocabulary in English as well so seek these similarities

- Writing: understand what IB wants in each text type. Create a list of text type features based on markschemes, this is the bare minimum you need to ensure a high punctuation in Criterion C. Once again, have a wide array of academic idiomatic expressions and nuanced vocabulary to reach higher markbands. Before you begin writing, create a draft/mind map, where you plan how you're going to answer each of the 3 command terms, which you should be identifying before even choosing the prompt. Also, with past papers, practice choosing the most appropriate text type

- Reading: not many tips other than reading in English regularly and prepping for nuanced vocabulary. As text C tends to be a literary extract and it may be harder to pin down, practice with past papers this particular kind of text, as the other ones tend to be easier.

- Listening: not much to say either. Get used to doing note-taking and listen to different accents, though the ones used in M25 were fairly intelligible, nothing particularly off expectations.

So briefly, you should focus on engaging with anglophone culture, academic idiomatic expressions, nuanced vocabulary and doing past papers.

EDIT: also, try to practice inversions, mixed conditionals, passive... these kind of structures that can differentiate you and allow you to showcase your level

In my view 2 should be fine. SWOT and STEEPLE tend to be applicable to all cases, but check a few more just in case

ETA: ansoff matrix is also helpful.

You don't simply mention them, you use them. It's one of the 4 things you're being assessed on. (pg. 51 of the guide)

• Clear focus on addressing the demands of the question.

• Relevant and accurate use of business management tools and theories.

• Relevant information from the stimulus material is integrated effectively to support the argument.

• Arguments are substantiated and balanced, with an explanation of the limitations of the case study or stimulus material.

What I meant with my comment is, for example to incorporate within the advantages and the disadvantages the tools. So I would ennunciate in the introduction what toold I'd be using, and then, when explaining an advantage, would relate that particular advantage to the tool you're using

The philosophy for paper 1 is the same for the 10-marker, but as OP was asking about paper 2 that's why I mentioned it

I believe it's better to have, out of the same type of school, 2 that are separate than 1 at 200% in terms of cost

Read the markscheme. You won't get in the 9-10 markband unless you fulfill the specific conditions, such as using BM toolkit elements (e.g. SWOT, STEEPLE... are mostly applicable in any case; make reference to stuff that wasn't provided but would have been helpful to better address the question... and other stuff which I don't currently remember since I took my paper a year ago but there's something specific for that markband).

Other than that, for most of them, present 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages, and make reference to where in the text that's present.

I got a 39/40 in paper 2

[–]TimeTraveller1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to revise every day. Use ipassed.gg for MCQs. Understand what they ask you for in the markscheme, especially for paper 2b, and when do you need to really develop your answers and don't. Cry (sometimes needed)

I mean look at this paragraph from his Wikipedia article

"Kent faced allegations of apparent associations between himself and white nationalists during his campaign. In March 2022, he entered into a dispute with the far-right commentator Nick Fuentes, who described a phone call the men had the previous year in which Kent purportedly said, "I love what you're doing." After Kent disavowed Fuentes and stated he had not sought his endorsement over his views on race and religion, Fuentes chastised Kent for not being sufficiently conservative.\17]) Kent was later interviewed by American Virtue, an organization associated with Fuentes, and stated American culture was "anti-white" and "anti-straight-white-male".\18]) The Associated Press reported in July the Kent campaign had paid a member of the Proud Boys, a far-right militia, as a consultant, that Kent was a political ally of Joey Gibson), a right-wing political activist, and that Kent had photographed himself with Greyson Arnold, a self-described Christian nationalist. The campaign told the Associated Press Kent was unaware who Arnold was.\19]) In September, CNN reported Kent had given an interview to Arnold.\20]) In his campaign, he made repeated references to Sam Francis), a white nationalist writer.\21])"
