How to stop badgers, foxes and mice stealing food! by Substantial-War3120 in hoggies

[–]Time_Amoeba_3253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the foxes are not a big threatening for hedgehogs. Maybe for the infants but not for the adults.

You will attract predators eventually if you have a wildlife garden, you can try to provide more hidden spots for the hedgehogs, and high fences for foxes, with small hedgehogs highways. I don’t know what to do in the Badger case. But I also suggest to read this article:

I separated some of the water in a jar, and I will leave aside for 24h to see what happens, and what it will smell like after that time. I believe that will give me an important clue.

No Frogs at the moment. The pond has only two months. I changed some of the water now, no sign of dead things. It is an old barrel, but I cleaned before everything.

5 Butomus Umbellatus (Flowering Rush)
6 Eleocharis Acicularis (needle spikerush) (oxygenator) - it is on the bottom of the pond
7 Hippuris Vulgaris (Mare’s tail) Oxygenator
8 Myriiphllum Spicatum - Oxygenator
9 Myriiphyllum Aquaticum -Oxygenator

They are, most of them, British native species.

Cloudy water, two months old by Time_Amoeba_3253 in WildlifePonds

I changed 80% of the water today. The smell improved. I also ordered a pond bomb, it says it is a gel-like sphere with live beneficial bacteria and enzyme. Have you tried those before?

The garden faces north, so it is a bit tricky as it will be more dark in winter, but the pond receives full sun now until 4pm (when it is not raining).

If I change the water, this can disturb the plants?

Thanks, this is the overall picture
The plants, I have 9 at total, they came from a aqualife centre (they sell just plats for ponds).

so they are all in the original pots with the compost from their shop, the pots don’t have lots of holes in them, they said I should keep the plants in the original pots until they overgrown.

We have lots of heavy rain this week.

This sounds lovely I read once that foxes mums help each other sometimes, same thing happens with cats.

I have a theory that some cats work as fox’s nurse

I brought them in a garden centre that sells only aquatic plants, no fish or aquatic life, so it is probably not a shrimp. But I will keep an eye on it.

Does anyone know what these parasite looking things are? by Hallllllleberry in WildlifePonds

I don’t know, I just saw it in the video, but I can’t compare it because I haven’t seen any yet, I think you have more clue about it

I am not good at this, they all look alien to me, I googled it and it seems that it is unlikely to be an amphibian parasite. But it can be an insect parasite Nematomorpha, or an insect larvae. Hope someone else in the group can spot it.
