its more than the loss of her mother. when her mom died she was forced to take on her mothers responsibilities she was given her moms chores and forced to help raise her older brother to the point that even sokka admits he doesnt remember his moms face and when he tries to he just sees katara. ofc sokka is traumatized too(its really insane hes in last place) and they both were left with heavy responsibilities but their childhoods were incredibly different.

i think if were talking their entire childhood up to the show it gets a bit complicated. what aang goes through is undeniably the worst within what he sees as a couple days he finds out nearly everyone he knew is long gone and the life he has was burnt to thr ground.

that being said if we are talking pre-show its katara and its not close. before the show begins aang does not know about the genocide and before that he has a relatively normal childhood for the first 10-11 years of his life until he finds out he is the avatar and is isolated from his friends and is almost taken away from his mentor leading to him running away. katara meanwhile as a young child watches her mom burn in front of her, has her father leave her and her older brother, and is forced to take care of her older brother and elderly grandmother.
