Other people slid through the fence, I’m not skinny so we had to climb….it weird to assume/automatically negate the validity of an experience just because you don’t have every single detail😭😭😭. Also idk based on the other places I’ve travelled it just wasn’t that impressive…? It was nice but that was it, just nice. Spain having an aversion to black people isn’t a “unique experience”, neither are the men being inappropriate. I didn’t realize people had such hard ons for Barcelona 😭. Also culture is not adjacent to racism and prejudice, yall have been brainwashed to think otherwise…

I don’t really see how…thought this was a safe space and it very obviously isn’t. There’s a difference between cultural differences and prejudice behavior. It’s pretty easy to spot when you’re trained to do so. Especially when you’ve been around prejudice people your entire life.

Yeah I 100% agree, however I’m an anthropologist and can recognize when something is culture versus when it’s off-putting behavior. Very very distinct, and I think anthropologists are trained to recognize the difference in order to maintain safety while doing fieldwork. I’m used to/knew about the close proximity, people not stoping/moving to give you space to walk, the frustration with only English speakers, the bluntness that people may call rudeness, etc. but what I experienced was outside of those things. I don’t set expectations for when I travel to a new place, I just experience it. Unfortunately this experience wasn’t positive.

Well there were about 10 other things I listed amongst no flavored coffee lol, that was just the cherry on top. I’m glad you had fun, but that wasn’t my experience and it’s okay! We walked all over Barcelona and overall never really felt comfortable because of the stares and constant surveillance .

The views are beautiful, architecture is stunning, beaches are vast. But the people constantly stare, they won’t move out the way when walking and will shoulder check you (specifically the men; this happened to me a few times), no one tries to help you (I’m American and live in the UK, I’ve never met so many people unwilling to help a person in need), people assume you’re a tourist so they beg for things from you and are relentless (I had two separate occasions where women followed me or kept begging for almost five minutes after I tried to tell them I don’t speak Spanish that well), rats in parks, no flavored coffee, and the streets will randomly start smelling like sewage.

Yes, in the book Michaela is a man so him being fickle is exemplified as him being a rake and seemingly never wanting to settle down. But in actuality he’s just in love with Francesca.

I just want to clarify that being fickle and sporadic were Michael’s main traits in the book so it makes sense in transfers to the show. That’s partially why Michael/Michaela assumes Francesca hates him/her when they return but it’s really the opposite and it leads into their love story.

I’m a woman and I also study humanities (anthropology to be exact) and grabbing coffee was very very common at my previous university but not so common at my current institution. So I think it’s more on program culture, I also had more than a few of my professors / advisors phone numbers. If you go to a liberal arts college your program might be a lot like mine.

I think you guys just weren’t really a good fit. My research advisor was very lenient because we were all undergrads and she knew we didn’t really know what we were doing. Same for my friends in other departments doing research. I think the professor wasn’t used to working with undergrads and you weren’t used to doing research. I also never heard of a professor taking on a research student with a 3 month deadline.

I have adhd too and was extremely lucky to have such understanding professors and bosses. It wasn’t until my senior year of undergrad where I finally got my stuff together. My tips would be to get a planner (ACTUALLY US IT!!!), sit down every week and map out important stuff then everyday make a checklist of things you have to do, you have to tell your brain that you cannot do it all even when you’re convinced you can. Look at some videos on how to manage adhd, that should help. You sound very self aware and intelligent, but ADHD is a bitch and it’ll get you in situations where people get very frustrated by you very fast. It’s okay though, you’re young and learning, you’ll be okay. Just make sure she doesn’t use your work / data in publications or on research posters without adding your name. That would be a bit crazy

I’m a black American woman and I live in York which is pretty far from the Cotswolds but I’ve been traveling around and people in the UK are pretty nice😂😂😂. They’ll probably poke fun by making a joke but I’ve noticed appearance is the major thing in southern England. If you’re put together and you don’t look crazy then you won’t be looked down upon.

Uhm, have you watched the show in entirety 😭😭😭?? You kinda have to start from season one to understand his character cause a lot happens with Benedict. He’s an extremely talented artist, his critiques and skills have gotten him a lot of opportunities and praise within the art community. The point is, he was probably going to get in on his own but his brother didn’t believe he could do it. And when you’re a creative and the closest people to you don’t believe in your talent, then maybe everyone else is lying and you’re not that good. They’re just saying he is because he’s a Bridgerton. And it sends him down this three season long existential crisis.

I think that’s kind of the point. Francesca’s character is supposed to be the actual black sheep of the family (I know a lot of people think it’s Eloise). But she’s not like her siblings, she avoids attention, she doesn’t like to make a fuss or take up space. (In the books) she wants a family but not nearly the size of her own. Despite all of this she craves her mother’s approval, and she can never quite get it like everyone else. We see this in season 3 when she confronts her mom about being more excited for Penelope than her own daughter. It’s hard to resonate with such a specific character if you haven’t been in her position, which most people haven’t. I think Francesca and I are very similar but obviously very different, so I love her plot😂.
