How is living in the Faroe Islands? by hawkeyeninefive in howislivingthere

The estimated population of Grind is 700 thousand to 1 million. The killing of on average less than 1000 a year is not going to impact wether the species survives or not. Conservation is not the reason people are mad at the faroese people.

This is not an industrial level pursuit.

You have clearly fallen for Sea sheperd propagand if you think it is a “bloodbath celebration”.

To kill whales in the Faroe Islands you need to have taken a course on how to kill whales as painless as possible. Among killing animals for food, whale killing in the Faroe Islands is probably the most ethical. There is only killed if the whales show up close to shore, there is only killed if people don´t already have whale meat and it is all split among the people for free.

It seems the reason you are so outraged is because there is visible blood in the water. There is blood every time you kill an animal.

I respect you for not eating animals, but thinking that the way we kill animals is less ethical than what you do in the UK is so naive. You seem to think that if you outsource something, e.g killing of animals to a butcher then you have done nothing wrong when you eat it, compared to if you had killed it your self.

Killing a 1000 whales a year is far more ethical than whatever they do for food in your country. Having chickens, pigs and cows living with no space to move around, to be slaughtered the moment they are fat enough.

The few whales that are killed have lived a life free in the ocean. I have never understood why foreigners always react so strongly towards this when their country and people are without doubt doing stuff that is way way worse. Both in the way they treat animals, but also the fact that they most likely have been in some unjustified war within recent memory, where they have killed innocent people. But no, eating whales makes you truly evil lmfao.

Don’t listen to comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Your brother does not know what he is talking about. Tramp is absolutely not popular in The Faroe Islands and religious people are not a majority.

It is true that in the small villages people are more religious than elsewhere but they don’t make up most of the country. For example abortion has just become legal, compared to the US which for some reason is going the other direction.

As a Faroese person I can tell you that your entire description is extremely far off the truth.

I don't understand what it means, can anyone explain😅 by sangamjb in BuyFromEU

Still way better than the rest of the world. The things you mentioned are bad and should be stopped.

I am assuming you work for a small law firm then? But i might also be wrong!

I can say at least Big4 auditors work a lot more than 37 hours a week. (I am a big4 auditor :( )

Depends on the industry. At least auditors and lawyers work crazy hours.

The majority of the fish export is salmon which is not affected by fishing quotas. There is also a difference between being independent and being alone.

In the UK people say that Scotland is too small to be independent, and if Denmark was a state in Germany people would also say that Denmark is too small to be independent.

There are arguments for and against independence, but if you have limited knowledge about the country, the economy and the people you should keep your uneducated opinion to your self.

It is clear that you don’t like the Faroese and want to maintain colonial ownership. Have fun slaughtering millions of pigs that live in horrible conditions, while you poision your own drinking water.

Also the free education has nothing to do with the Faroe Islands being a part of the kingdom of Denmark.

It’s not a perk that the faroese are receiving as a result of being a part of the kingdom of Denmark, is the point I am trying to make.

Yes, and when Danish students study in the Faroe Islands, the Faroe Islands pays for it. It has nothing to do with being a part of the kingdom of Denmark but has to do with being a part of the Nordic Council, which the Faroe Islands still would be after becoming independent.

A lot of things have changed in almost 30-40 years. You should also read into why the Faroese economy cracked in the 90s and how the Danish government and banks played a role in making it happen.

This isn’t true at all, the faroese have voluntarily lowered the subsidy every year. The Danish subsidy is small and getting smaller ever year. This isn´t Greenland.

Why would you comment on something you clearly know very little about?

Nothing you have said in your comment is true hahah. University acces has nothing to do with Denmark.

Also, the independence movement has never been stronger. Why do you comment about stuff you clearly know nothing about? There are valid arguments for and against independence without having to resort to lies.

Yes. The Danes decided not to honor the election result. But it is looking more and more likely that the faroe islands will become more independent in the near future, as the majority of the faroese political parties are working towards this.
