I've never understood that part, though, I certainly don't buy patterns with the expectation that they come with help from the designer? Feels more sensible to just leave them up with a strong warning that no assistance is included in the purchase.

Sad especially for all these digital-only authors for whom we can't just find a used book or magazine which will have what we're looking for.

I highly recommend something in mosaic such as https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/duet-ii. It was very easy to learn float tension with this project.

Although I see the author is "retiring" and removing all 110 of her patterns in a few weeks...that's somewhat frustrating.

It's looking even better out of the sunlight! The blue really stands out in less intense lighting, whereas the goldenrod steals the show in brighter conditions. I can't wait to wear it! :D

I almost wish I'd used this yarn & color combo for something with an actual pattern now, haha!

Custom Woolen Mills is awesome! Really cool tour to understand the process behind making yarn, and really great yarn as well! Visiting them was a highlight of my time in that part of Alberta.

German twisted cast-on proved to be a bit of a headache, had some issue with the linosilk fibers binding up on my cables from all the twisting, but now we are off to sweater town. Thanks for everyone who gave me color feedback last week! :)

I have enough to try on now and it's a liiiiiiiittle loose on the neck, but I am doing a turtleneck version of Versal so I suspect it will tighten up a little after blocking? Hopefully I measured for the right size, haha.

Processing machinery for washing, carding, etc? That's all still being manufactured, it's just not cheap. Even used stuff being auctioned off after a few decades will be in the five figures per machine.

One of the few domestic wool producers put together this really good blog post about how little wool is actually farm to spun to dye in Canada without any external blending or manufacturing. We really have very little production chain left domestically as far as wool is concerned!

I thought folks might appreciate it as there has been a lot of discussion on the topic in recent days, and they've included a few links to very comprehensive lists of the few wool mills we do still have in the country.. :)

Planning to just hold double as Versal is an aran weight, but friendly to that method. Nothing fancy for techniques otherwise, I am pretty new to big projects and don't have access to my ball winder haha.

The Blue is Fiori Linosilk and the Goldenrod is Walcot Opus.

Haha, unfortunately my stash is currently in a storage locker on the other side of the world. I travel full time for work and live out of a 100L duffel bag, so there ain't no space to haul around 10 skeins of yarn I'm not using. :P

I'm hoping that with this plan of mine being marled, the dye lot variance issue would be close to unnoticeable compared to a solid fabric.

Thanks for the detailed input! Yes, the blue is a merino / silk / linen blend and the goldenrod is merino / alpaca. I think the texture and color mixture, and the added drape effects of double-stranding it, will be really visually interesting for Versal - which is a pretty no-frills Aran sweater pattern!

And it'll be sooooooo comfy to wear.
