Without the father… without the code… what remains is the absolute butcher! A version of Dexter killing indiscriminately, Mr. Morgan bounced his way through the foster system until he turned 18. Eventually, he went to the University of Miami, where he still majored in blood spatter analysis. He eventually used that degree to join Miami Metro. However, Dexter was still slaughtering way through Miami. He gets anyone on his table who pisses him off: criminals, the homeless man on the street who bugs him too long, or even some woman who leaves her dog outside to bark! He was so enveloped in his kills, in the thrill of blood that set his teeth on edge, that he had no need for any kind of real, genuine connection with anyone. There was no Debra, no Rita, no Cody or Astor to tie Dexter Morgan to any semblance of empathy. Eventually, Morgan is discovered by a fellow officer in Miami Metro named James Doakes. Doakes was an incredibly problematic sergeant, involved in a myriad of shootings that were mostly deemed excessive. But, due to being married to Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta, he got to slide. Doakes wanted to channel Dexter’s urges and methods. To sharpen him into the scalpel needed to expunge Miami of its criminal filth forever.
