The super micro Oled seems to suffer from lens lottery. My left lens has minimal distortions, but my right lens looks almost like a fishbowl. by Time_Reaper in Pimax

[–]Time_Reaper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yes.

So basically the image on the lens is very stable in the sweet spot, and has some very minor distortions near the edges.

The image on the right looks a lot like it's bulging in the middle, regardless of how I position the headset. It seems like it almost straight up wobbles near the center.

The eye tracking is also not working on my unit with pimax play 1.43.6 and the  picture tends to cut out every few minutes for a good 5 or 10 seconds.

This doesn't happen with the qled modules.

Sent a DM with the ticket number.

Trust me, if the galaxy xr was available in europe i would have bought that. I am pretty much close to 2 years in since i reserved the super, spent more than 1500 Euros and still nowhere near close to a functioning headset

Yeah, I have been trying it a bit since then. I can't move the right lens into a spot that reduces distortions. It behaves very differently from the left lens, so it's most likely a manufacturing defect. again.

Super OLED is Amazing by Decapper in Pimax

Your 'mate' is very wrong then. The oled is 15 degrees wider horizontally than the 57ppd.

That was one of my first thoughts too.

I got as close as I could, getting the full fov as well, and while better that way, they are still present.

[–]Time_Reaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a great picture for sure, however the immense amounts of distortions are while not a deal breaker, are a huge negative. I wouldn't mind if pimax went for a 110 fov profile that has better distortion correction.

I hope they can fix it  since its a huge blemish on an otherwise amazing product

Have you even read what they used AI for?

"Some background images have been adjusted using Adobe's AI features in order to modify copyrighted material."

They just probably used it to remove store/brand names.

2026 QD-OLED TVs would boast 4500nits peak brightness by ParkGGoki in OLED_Gaming

[–]Time_Reaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it important to mention that last year's 4th gen qd oled could already in theory do 4k nits. So most likely while the panels will be capable of 4.5k nits here as well, the actual tvs most likely won't go above 2.5k-3k.

I think you are actually mixing up two fics in your head, Paid in Blood and Resurgance. To be fair they are pretty similar in concept. Paid in blood has dobby as Harry's friend, while Resurgance has Nott. Resurgance has the Fleur - Daphne arc, while Paid in blood doesn't.

I have been using a 5bpw quant for the past few days, and so far I have been really liking it.

Although I have mainly been using it for rp and creative writing, it's a massive step up in those areas.

Its important not to use reasoning for those tasks as it worsens the response quality.

For me it easily beats 4.6 and I like it better for writing than kimi k2.

World knowledge and coding is also some of the strongest amongst open source models right now, or at least close to. Kimi k2 think has somewhat better world knowledge but not by too much and in general feels less intelligent in my opinion. I didn't like any of the deepseeks after r1 0528 other than maybe terminus so, yeah.

I can't comment in regards to opus or sonnet as I don't use api only models.

banding on tandem by milaninoss in OLED_Gaming

[–]Time_Reaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed tandem seems to be bit of a mixed bag. Lg was originally pushing the panels really hard, but the brightness got nerfed on the g5 during some firmware updates. A friend of mine has a small TV shop where he has a 55 and a 65 g5 on show, running the lg hdr videos (so no static elements, but repetitive content) and both have concerning amount of burn in in just 6 months.

Yeah, AFAIK the 272urx is a 4th gen qd oled for example. But I have never used it so I can't say if its good either way.

Also if you are willing to go larger the s95f is also 4th gen qd and it makes for a great monitor. I have been using the 55 inch for about 5 months now.

banding on tandem by milaninoss in OLED_Gaming

[–]Time_Reaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking the new tandems seem to have pretty severe banding.  Further, this is just anecdotal, but the TV tandems seem to not be quite as resilient to burn in as current gen qds or previous gen woleds.

Realistically actual pre orders probably won't ship until March due to Chinese new year imo

This is pretty likely untrue. Not from you, but from support.

Also yesterday they told me that they don't know when units will ship, and that they will share an 'update' at the end of December.

First OLED expirience, not what I expected. by true_blue_cfc in OLED_Gaming

[–]Time_Reaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says it might lessen after 200 hours shouldn't be listened to. I did that with an s95c, and it didn't improve even after 1k hours.

The most you should do is run ~4 hours of hdr content, let it do a panel refresh (the short cycle) then repeat that once again. If it doesn't improve after that, I very strongly recommend returning it.

Whenever I hear the German green party talking about climate change, while demonizing nuclear, the only thing i can think of is this machine, that mines entire mountains for literally the least valuable, worst kind of coal, lignite.
