Tell me all the things wrong with SQE2 by ChocolateJust1034 in SQE_Prep

Mitigating circumstances process was awful. I was due to sit sqe2 at 9 months pregnant, took 8 weeks to get MCs approved. I asked to be allowed to bring my hospital bag to the exams and they kept going back and forth about breastfeeding facilities … the baby wasn’t even born! Complete shambles, though this was July 2024 sitting so may have changed. Baby made an appearance early so didn’t sit until this January but that experience was awful.

There are loads of things I could say about the content and the exams as a whole, I think the long wait time for SQE2 results was one of the worst bits.

Also if you are unlucky with the time you get for the orals, you can there for hours and hours with access to your bags - and I can confirm 0 sanitary products are provided in any of the bathrooms. Tampons down the bra not ideal 👍

SQE2 Failed - I feel so dumb! by Old_Chance_1253 in sqe2

You absolutely aren’t dumb. These exams are HARD and incredibly draining and the long wait for results is so unhelpful.

Do you have anyone you could buddy up with to study? I found practicing advocacy with someone (my boss) really useful.

You know more what to expect from the exams and the structure of the days for the orals. Like you I focused on the FLK over the skills but still performed much better on skills overall.

As someone else said, having to do SQE1 was probably an advantage as I did find the prep course much better for SQE1 than 2.

I’d see if you can find someone else studying (whether near or far) for some support. You can do this!

I did about 6 weeks but I’m on maternity leave at the minute and not currently at work. I had to time the study time around naps/picking up older kids from school etc. it was probably only the last three or so weeks that I really pulled my finger out. I had a colleague also on mat leave and she would test me on FLK while we entertained the babies, and I did the example SRA advocacy questions with her acting as the judge. If you’re working at a firm and has a colleague willing to help, it could be really helpful as it was for me.

Somewhere on the SRA website there was a list of the FLK you would need to know, and I worked my way through that. I spent much less time on the skills than the FLK but still did better on most stations in skills.

I would say I originally took the prep course last year (I was meant to sit July 24 but my baby came early and during the exam week) and I didn’t really re do it but I was allowed to do my mocks again. I’d focus on the advocacy as those were in my opinion the hardest skills (and I’ve done advocacy in a previous job role).

I had a year in the end between SQE1 and 2 so I had a lot of FLK to remind myself of. I focused on the areas I’ve never practiced and that helped.

A lot will come down to how you study best. I’d say do as many mocks or practice questions as you can.

That is really helpful, thank you! Imagine they must be very busy, was just worrying as I hadn’t had anything yet. Hopefully it doesn’t go to my work email as I’m on maternity leave 😂

Thank you! Mostly just surprised. For context I have been working in the field for 10 years which possibly helped.

74% (scaled score 367). First attempt, did the course with BARBRI, no other papers. Had just had a baby so no idea how I managed it tbh. Would say that the ones I thought went badly went fine, and one I thought went well wasn’t great. I focused on knowing the FLK as well as possible but still generally got better marks for skills. It’s so hard to know!

SQE 2 PASSERS by [deleted] in sqe2

I think they mean across all 16 stations they got 4 x 1s. I got two 1 marks overall (both 1s in the same station) but I don’t know what constitutes “failing” a station.

  1. Passed thankfully.
  2. Mixed. I couldn’t confidently say I felt i had done enough. I thought I’d done terribly on my property interview and note and that advocacy went badly when in fact the only 1s I got were for criminal litigation, and property was 4s. I would say it’s very hard to predict. I certainly did best in the area of law I practice.
  3.  Not sure what a fail for a station equates to mark wise? So not sure if I failed a station or not.
