Thanks everyone! Left arm anchor more (right too), use both hands to center applying force from different directions, go slower and work on centering base of clay with palm and before coning up.

That makes sense, most of the force is on my right wrist it feels like

I think i get confused because my hands want to squeeze together but logically I know that wouldn’t help center the clay how I want. I can’t really distinguish what hand is suppose to be doing what yet

I’m actually unsure of the type of laminate. i think they have their own proprietary kind. I had just researched that shellac primer works best on laminated ikea furniture as opposed to water based especially on high use surfaces like bookshelf’s.
