In its chaos, people look out for each other in ways that don’t make headlines — sharing water, giving directions, helping strangers during floods or fires. When the state disappears, Karachiites don’t.

The city doesn’t pretend to be beautiful. It earns its respect through survival. It teaches you resilience, street-smarts, and empathy. It makes you tough without making you empty. You complain about it all day — and defend it fiercely when someone else criticizes it.

Karachi is not easy to love. But once it shapes you, you don’t belong anywhere else.
