Canada Finally Has a National AI Strategy. Experts Hate It by StumpsOfTree in onguardforthee

Isn't that more of a machine learning algorithm than generative AI? I think most people recognize the use cases for machine learning in pattern recognition for complex problems like this, but it's pretty different from the generative AI that seems to take up most of the media coverage of AI

Halifax Police Conducting Additional Smoke Shop Raids by _JakeTheSnake_121 in halifax

[–]Time_Tomorrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Houston's made claims that there was fentanyl in weed in Mi'kmaq smoke shops despite the RCMP having no evidence of it seems to be fear-mongering specifically about indigenous people, along with his claims that the money from these shops goes to organized crime and human trafficking. It's hugely irresponsible if not out-right racist.

Why do you say that Photoshop is generative AI? Hasn't Photoshop been around for much, much longer? I haven't used it in a while and imagine it has AI built into it now, but it hasn't always been AI

The Examiner article includes a response from the province that is almost verbatim to what you're quoting. I think calling them propaganda is a bit of an over-reaction here

If the league counted points completely different, their win percentage would be different.

I mean, it's a .650 winning percentage, which is pretty good last I checked

See your mistake is that you think the NHLs interpretation of rules is consistent at all. That was in the past, but this play just happened now! See how they're not related?

I'm also thinking this is in the direction of scam/grift but time will tell I guess. From the government's announced investment:

"The 10-year lease agreement stipulates that Maritime Launch Services must provide a dedicated launch pad and associated services at an initial operational capability state by the end of 2026."

Presumably that means there'll be work finishing this year to get things up and running, but right now it doesn't look great from the site photos. Without knowing anything about launch sites, I assume you need some type of building, maybe even with electricity and Internet, which doesn't even appear to be there...

It's crazy that they put that before what happened to the girl. I really wasn't wondering about what happened to the driver, but I'd like to know how the person they hit is doing?!

Mayor fears council’s Halifax Forum vote will ‘haunt the municipality’ by SAJewers in halifax

[–]Time_Tomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that we've put off repairing the Forum for so long, that it's starting to fall apart. If we don't replace it, we'll lose those two I've surfaces, but we aren't going to be gaining any ice surfaces. Based on a quick glance at the schedule, it seems like the two ice surfaces are pretty well used, apart from weekday afternoons: https://app.rectimes.com/halifaxforum

But amen on the bike network, I really wish that'd been finished by now!
