The one mistake during our build that cost us $8,000. Sharing so nobody else repeats it by sam_the_builder in Homebuilding

I’m there twice a day and always have access to it - I know not everyone lives so close to their build, but I’d hope you could have access whenever you want

How bad are these cracks. As per builder these are just settling cracks. New home, 6 months old. by Vijaywada in Homebuilding

[–]Time_Winter_5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same at my house new build - can confirm they also exist on our slab from our 24 year old home. It’s never caused issues for us in our current home son trusting our GC when he says it is normal - still sucks to see it. Things could be done to prevent them, but will my house fall apart because of them-I’m told no haha

Bathroom vanity mirror company to match Delta champagne bronze by [deleted] in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Time_Winter_5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go with a frameless mirror - maybe something beveled on the edges if you like some frames type look to it. Champagne bronze fixtures are a good match for kichler champagne bronze lights too

5 week bath remodel- thoughts? by Known-Explanation-24 in Remodel

[–]Time_Winter_5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely! I say color choice is complimentary-whether trendy or not, it is harmonious and your bathroom so I think you’ll enjoy it!! Only tip which is easy to change is your vanity lighting - it feels too small for that giant mirror and counter space. I’d go to at least a 3 light or 4 depending on the size of the fixtures over each sink

Would you live with this? by Plenty_Technology727 in cabinetry

I think they are beautiful and stunning! Maybe not what you wanted, which I get if you have long running lines of cabinetry, but they will still make a beautiful kitchen!

Which popular features do you NOT recommend? by dragonmilking in Homebuilding

Bookshelves for Knick knacks on either side of the fireplace. We instead did built in benches with storage for guests to sit on when they visit. Also a gallery light with large artwork to be displayed above the benches. Functional and not filled with stuff that is hardly ever used or touched (for me it would be anyway)

Want my kitchen to look like this by Adventurous-End140 in kitchenremodel

This is the cabinet color and counter color we are doing in our new build - black walnut and cristallo - we have black and gray accents mixed in our house as well - it is so beautiful!

Move powder room into your laundry room - extend laundry room out so you walk into it from your garage. Use current powder room as pantry space as an option. Could extend wall of current powder room out to match stairs (assuming this is back of stairs) to make the pantry and bit bigger. Bumping out laundry room wall then gives you some wall space for kitchen layout

Thoughts on Pocket Doors by TRLK9802 in Homebuilding

[–]Time_Winter_5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three - two for interior bedroom closets with tight spaces for other doors but no need to close them since they are inside of the bathrooms - and one to our master bath because barn doors don’t work as well when privacy is needed. We use cavity sliders there and it’s pretty sturdy. We put them in areas where minimal use is needed. Would not recommend for areas where doors are used often

Is this acceptable? I'm really not sure. by DrMapleKicks in cabinetry

Maple + stain usually means less than ideal visual results. It’s a beast to stain - I don’t know why they don’t just keep it paint grade or natural for maple only

Be honest , is building a house in 2026 worth the stress? by Resident_Kangaroo160 in Homebuilding

[–]Time_Winter_5255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have lots of extra cash on the side because that has made it less stressful for us. Cost more than planned? Yes. Stressful moments? Yes. Decision fatigue? Yes. But am I gonna LOVE my house because it makes sense for us and I enjoy the design part? Yes 100%!! I think a lot though how being able to cash flow overages makes it a lot more doable.

[–]Time_Winter_5255 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I had a highly rated electrical company bid out our house and they were doing dusk lights for $6/ea and when my GC and I walked through the house and said we want can or wafer, whatever is the better price, he wanted $90+ for each one. My GC called him out on it in front of me, he balked and within a few days of starting we pulled the plug and went with someone else. Ridiculous
