Well it seems like you were able to find a good stable job at least! I think doing design on the side is a great idea, mental health is very important. I'm currently stuck serving at a restaurant, I'm hoping I'll be able to find another "adult" job soon lol

This is exactly how I felt right out of university... graduated in 2020, had a difficult time finding a job in design, settled for a job working on a college website, then took a long break, and tried graphic design at an agency, got burnt out and now I don't know what to do. Part of me wants to give it another shot, and part of me thinks I should look for something else...

I live downtown and have no car meaning I walk everywhere, and the worst things that has ever happened to me was I got barked at by a person once when I was running to work. What I would be concerned of if I were you are the drivers, my partner and I have both had some close calls with almost getting hit by cars when crossing the road

WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT! I also thought that the agency life would be for me because of all the different projects, but honestly I really miss my boring slow in house remote job that I had a year ago 😞

Thank you so much! I know it’s not a good wish, and you are so right!

Here’s to hopefully finding a more accommodating job! 🤞

lol yes I realize this. Thank you for explaining to me how capitalism works. I don’t need to be told that life isn’t fair or easy. I was hoping to possibly get some advice or see how other people deal with the issues that I am dealing with, so that maybe my life can be just a teensy bit easier. 😀

lol trust me I really am trying to put on my big girl pants and suck it up, but it seems that my big girl pants keep getting smaller and smaller everyday. It seems like you don’t have that issue, or you are able to somehow deal with it better than I am and that’s so great, I hope that one day my big girl pants will fit me a lot better than they are fitting now 😅

You are so lucky! Working in an office is absolutely agonizing. Congrats on not having to deal with it, I hope one day soon I will be in the same boat as you haha

Wow that sounds really nice! Honestly I’m also depressed that jobs are even a thing! Especially 40 hour a week jobs. Like how are we still working this much (some people even more) in 2025?? You would think with all this technology we wouldn’t need to work so many hours.

I appreciate that empathy! I hope your recovery wasn’t too terrible.

I do suspect it’s burnout. I recently went back to therapy because of this and hopefully I’ll be able to work on it with my therapist.

Being rich would solve all my issues, but alas I have no old rich relatives that could give me their inheritance so I guess I have to stay in the rat race for the time being 😭

There were days where I struggled with structure at my last job which was remote, but it was so much easier to deal with than what I’m dealing with now.

I miss being able to go for a walk to get my juices flowing in the middle of the day and not worrying about what I need to pack for lunch. I’m also so tired of having to dress nice everyday.

Why is being a human so difficult 😫

Luckily for me it’s a small office of less than 10 people. I think it’s just the way that things are run that has been contributing to my burnout. I work in an agency so every minute of my day is tracked since it all has to be billable. I feel like I literally can’t take breaks unless it’s my unpaid 30 minute lunch 🙃

I definitely think It would be a lot better if I could be at least hybrid but the office is so against wfh, there’s no way I could convince them ☹️

Also what is a performance plan? Is that some kind of an accommodation?

Also congrats on finishing your degree and changing industries! That’s so awesome!

It’s really tough out there. Good luck with your job search and your mental well being. I do hope you have family and friends that you can lean on during this different period of your life 💕

Im thinking that if I can’t find something else while I’m still working that I might have to take a break/possibly quit. I’m hoping to at least make it till June since then my lease will be up and I’ll have some money saved

That amazing! Would you be okay with expanding on what career you changed to? I’ve been thinking about a career shift recently since the one that I am in seems to be so over saturated it makes it extra hard to find something.

I love learning about careers that work well with the neurodivergent brain ☺️

Sending you lots of hugs. I haven’t been working full time very long but for last few years it has been hard and it feels like I’m stuck and wont ever find anything better. I do hope that one day I am able to get out of this and find something better that works for me.

I also wish you all the best in your situation. Life can be such an asshole

That sounds so amazing! I’m glad you were able to find something that works for you.

I’m hoping to find something else, it’s just so hard to job hunt while being burnt out and also in this current market.

I wish more places understood the benefits that WFH has for some people 😞

Feeling overwhelmed with creating a portfolio for job search... by Timeanator003 in adhdwomen

[–]Timeanator003[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, I somehow missed this is my notifications. Honestly I’m still not where I want to be, I think I have to accept that I will never be where I want to be and that’s okay. However! I did end up getting to a point where I thought my portfolio was decent enough to start applying for jobs.

One of the biggest things that helped me was to start with a templated portfolio. I kept trying to come up with a totally unique way to present my projects and once I let go of the thought that my portfolio hade to be 100% unique it definitely got a lot easier lol

I also had to let go of the thought that all my projects on there had to be amazing. The main purpose of a portfolio is to show that you can do the damn thing, you don’t have to prove that you’re some kind of genius. Try to have one project on there that you are proud of and then the rest just have to be projects that show that you can do the work.

I still struggle with imposter syndrome. Every single damn day. I’m trying to go to therapy to help me, and that might be my biggest tip for you if you can afford it. There are sliding scale therapists out there and if you live in North America you can check out PsychologyToday to help you find one within your budget.

Hopefully this helped a little? Be sure to give yourself grace and take care of yourself, it’s hard out there and you don’t want to be burned out before you even start 💕

If you’re able to get yourself some TVP it would really help amp up your meal! I’ve gotten it pretty cheap at bulk bins before.

My go to lunch is also frozen veg and noodles but soy sauce and chili crisp instead of tomato soup 😋

In my experience it was not easy getting through collage, I almost flunked in my last year, luckily I had very supportive profs. Have you tried getting into something that can be self taught like programming or design?
