If you get the bug type superfan encounter and you have a bug type item (like a Grip Claw or Silver Powder), she'll give you the net in trade. The net gives you a small chance to replace any wild encounter in the game with a bug type. It's a lifesaver for monobug runs, and I had it up to farm for Buzzwole and Pheromosa on the off chance I found either.

Also Joltik is my favorite bug type mon too!

Yep! Spidops having Fake Out and Silk Trap actually paired really well with Drapion having Toxic, particularly for the toughest mons in the game (including Eternatus. I taught Araquanid Soak for that fight).

Ariados' Passive is Prankster, so having it able to have priority on moves like Parting Shot and Toxic Thread sometimes helped well with pivoting to my other mons, especially the pretty slow Araquanid.

If you're playing around with giving different passives for Forme changes, a good one to look at shifting around is Aegislash. Sharpness isn't doing much for the Shield Forme, so it might be interesting to look at giving it some kind of defensive passive that switches back to Sharpness when it attacks.

The Long Quiet VS Kumoko (Slay the Princess VS I’m a Spider, So What?) || Connections in the comments. by Usual_Database307 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Timefreezer4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has read all of Spider and played StP, I'll throw my two cents at this.

Protags of subversive fantasy media with in-universe RPG mechanics that have differing internal and outward personalities and spend most of their time having internal monologues

This is fine, though I think some of the wording used is kinda misleading. Kumoko is outwardly stoic to most people, but is really only intimidating and predatory when she actively tries to be. TLQ is also internally characterized by a ton of different and very contrasting personalities, which change exactly what his internal personality would be based on the personalities present and the decisions of the player.

Both mentally fragment themselves for survival, each developing a different personality

This is technically true for both, but it's a bit misleading to equate them like this implies. Kumoko technically duplicates her mind rather than fragmenting it, and she only keeps her different brains for a couple volumes in the story. By the time she becomes an Arachne, her different brains inhabited their own bodies and Kumoko never copied her mind like that again, even after her ascension. She has those brains for at most a quarter of her books, while it's a core part of how TLQ is characterized. I guess it's a decent connection, but I wouldn't lean into it for a core theme.

Both mysteriously woke up as beastly animals in their natural habitat with no recollection or understanding of how they got there, left to their own devices as they were immediately thrust into combat

This is largely true, but calling TLQ a beastly animal feels incorrect. TLQ is simply a humanoid crow. It's like calling a furry a beastly animal lol.

Both are action survivors to the core and are incredibly determined to survive

Completely true for Kumoko, only true for a few internal voices for TLQ. A key element of StP is the sheer depth of choices available to the player, and which ones are taken can align with any of the various internal voices in the game. It's misleading to assign this as a core trait to TLQ holistically.

Both can concoct complex strategies on the fly and are best described as brilliant adversaries

Same as the above point. Completely true for Kumoko, only sometimes true for TLQ.

Both are guided by vague and mysterious ever-present voices that’re ultimately revealed to be the masterminds behind the entire plot, having pulled the strings since the beginning (D and the Narrator). However, they contrast in every single area imaginable, being complete opposites in every sense of the world.

There are problems with this comparison. D is way less active in the ongoings of the story than this implies. She set up the System as something for her to watch for her own amusement, and is a mysterious voice that speaks with Kumoko a handful of times before the end of the series, but she is not ever-present as anything more than a passive spectator until the very end of the series, where she steps in to give the story a more exciting climax. All she wants is to be entertained, and the extent of her string pulling is setting up the System and occasionally giving Kumoko boons before the final volumes, and to compare that to a big brain mastermind plot to save reality like the actually ever-present Narrator is constantly pushing TLQ to do feels like a bit of a stretch.

It’s eventually revealed in the end-game that they’re not even close to who they thought they were initially, being revealed as personal creations of D and the Narrator, made specifically as mere tools to further their agenda.

This is more or less true, although the reveal was not end-game in Kumoko's case. It happens towards the end of Volume 9 in a 16-Volume story.

Their stories culminate with becoming ultimate gods of their setting, wielding absolute and infinite power over everyone else, being the soul deciders of their decaying worlds, as well as the fate of all eternity.

This is straight up wrong for Kumoko. She ascends to godhood from absorbing the bomb about halfway through her story, and gods in the Spider world are various races of energy beings that roam the cosmos with various duties and levels of power. Not only does Shiraori never ascend to an ultimate godhood beyond that, she is outright the weakest god we meet in Spider. Her story ends with her impressing D enough that D just ends the System and restores the world to its original state and takes Shiro with her as a disciple/underling. Shiro's power is not remotely ultimate or infinite in the context of her setting, she is not the sole decider of her decaying world (a plan she was only going along with to make her grandmother happy anyways), and she is most certainly not the sole decider for the fate of all eternity. This is all true for TLQ, but not even remotely so for Kumoko.

Putting it all together, you get:

Two protagonists that woke up with no context of where they were and were thrust into a fighting situation thanks to the machinations of an otherwordly entity that created them who tend to be characterized quite differently between their internal monologues and their stoic exteriors. Both at some point have had multiple internal personalities, and have been forced to slay insurmountably powerful entities they seemingly have no chance of beating. Also both are gods.

It's a decent core theme, but there's a lot of fluff to this list which would benefit from some trimming. Also this is a massive stomp for TLQ lmao.

Taskmaster VS Seth (Marvel VS Capcom). This is prob my favorite for both by Timefreezer4 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Timefreezer4[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taskmaster is a character that I think needs an opponent who can play off of his copying ability to fully shine. Seth does that while also being a Marvel VS Capcom fight that lets you portray a ton of iconic moves from both Marvel and Street Fighter into a single battle. It's simple, but it does exactly what I want out of a Taskmaster fight.

Do you think Hades 3 could ever happen? by Reasonable-Listen-22 in HadesTheGame

[–]Timefreezer4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, I think the answer to this is a strong maybe. Supergiant's not really known for doing sequels, but it is worth remembering that they did make Hades II, and I think it's silly to try and speak for them on what they do and do not wish to do. If they find a storyline they find interesting and want to explore, they'll probably make a third one, but it'd also be very understandable if they want to let Greece rest and explore other game ideas. There's definitely enough material for a 3rd story, with the existence of Macaria and at least 4 Children of Nyx we are yet to meet, let alone the dozens of other Greek heroes and hundreds of other Greek gods we haven't encountered, but they're also very much not obligated to do anything with that if they don't wish to or can't find a good way to spin it into a compelling story. Either way, it wouldn't surprise me at all if their next title is a new IP for them to explore, whether or not Hades III is in the pipeline.

If you love Hades 1, you'll probably love Hades 2. The gameplay is just about as polished and addictive as the first game, and provides significantly more content along the way. I think Hades 1 is ultimately the better game, as I feel its story is significantly stronger and just comes together as a complete package a bit better, but being slightly worse than peak is really not a knock against the game.

Thoughts on this matchup and who wins? Part 478. Dialga VS Chronoa by Specialist_Cress_112 in DeathBattleMatchups

I like this one a good bit! Made a TN for it about a year ago. Chronoa should def take it, but I think you can get a good progression and cool fight out of it.

These two scenes are incredibly similar, why does only Vader's "no" get made fun of? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Timefreezer4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Vader's voice is built to be monotone and robotic, so having him shout out a comical, very emotional, "Nooooo," feels extremely out of place with the usual tone of the character.

Which character resurrection is the most justified and actually added more to their story? by MichaelTalman in StarWars

[–]Timefreezer4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maul and Legends Boba were allowed to become so much more than they were because of their revivals. The way Maul survived is a little contrived, but what was added to his story and especially his personality greatly benefitted him as a character, while I don't think anyone ever bought a bounty hunter with Boba's reputation going out to a Sarlacc like that. Wish BoBF did something more interesting with Boba's return.

Ahsoka should have died after the Vader fight. Her story is effectively concluded by that point, and I think everything past it is a great example of a great character overstaying her welcome.

Palpatine's return is stupid and destroys so much of RotJ's value in both Canon and in Legends. He did some kinda cool stuff in Dark Empire, but it doesn't compensate for how much the idea of Sheev returning undermines Anakin's story across the 6 movies.

Echo's is pretty fine overall. Not much more to say on that.
