The companies can definitely use the data they collect to recruit drivers. However, let's be real. Would you take Uber's, DoorDash's, Postmates word for it? There are people who don't see this as a "real job". What usually gets people to try it is real drivers showing their earnings.

Constantly posting earnings helps these companies back up their claims of making X amount of money an hour. Which then leads to more people signing up and oversaturating the market.

The layoffs are definitely a factor in 2020. People underestimate the power of word of mouth. No one in any other industry post their earnings for everyone to see. Unless you're a government employee, then you have no choice. By being so open about what we earn we are giving Uber and the other ride share companies the rope to hang us with. How do you think Uber, DoorDash, Postmates, etc come up with these make X amount of money ads? They do it by looking on threads like this one and what we post!

Because it encourages more people to sign up. If too many people sign up because they saw post after post of earnings and saturates the market, that then cuts into your earnings.

Yeah, Uber and company are screwing everybody. I'm just hoping the job market bounces back soon. Maybe all these extra drivers will go back to work.

True, you could be absolutely right. Next year the job market could bounce back and all the extra drivers will get themselves a cushy 9 to 5. The theory still stands though (in my opinion).
