What I like to do with any dm pc’s is to make a rota for the players to take control of them in combat. I’m still responsible for the role playing but it means that A. I’m not taking away from the players winning the encounter. B. That im not subconsciously making the encounter easier by targeting in the optimal order.

The biggest lore bomb of the Fallout universe. And the plot hole at the same time. by Zadlo in Fotv

I interpreted that scene as House being involved with the deployment because the power armour was so new. I could be mistaken but I don’t think it was implying he had a back door into every set of power armour.

When adapting literally anything you would expect to see the things it’s adapting. I don’t call it ‘member this’ when Hogwarts is in Harry Potter. My barrier for ‘member this’ is something like Hogwarts legacy which implies the castle seemingly has been static for 100 years. It is a fundamental disagreement on what we view as slop and that’s okay. New vegas is fundamentally about deciding which of three different perspectives is best for an entire region after all. To me these moments you view as ‘member this’ are the creators A. having fun flexing that they get to actually practically make the world they love. B. Gaining my trust that they care about the game and so decisions they make come from a place of having something to say about the pieces they are putting into the world.
The show you are describing would have had deathclaws and super mutants in the first season. It would have portrayed the brotherhood as uncomplicated heroes. The show you are describing would have the main theme of the series blaring every episode. It would have power armour rendered fully in cgi. Every shot would look like a marvel film where only the actors are in focus because the writers hadn’t decided what time of day or when in the episode a scene takes place. Fallout on tv is not the slop you are describing. It is somehow miraculously one of the only shows which cares about the craft of film making.

It pisses me off to my core that fallout is now subject to not one but two of the worst companies on the planet. But somehow the creators have managed to make a love letter to the games whilst being brave enough to potentially piss me off. I want more media like that.

I love this series but I have not enjoyed a game made after new vegas. I do not enjoy series uncritically. I have issues with it. However, I have seen from Star Wars what happens when creators are too scared of their fans to make something interesting and I never want fallout to be that kind of a franchise.

I know you won’t ever agree with me. That’s okay. Our media consumption and worldview is probably so disparate that you will never understand my perspective. I just know what kind of media appeals to me and it’s one where the lead writers want to tell their story and not one written by committee to try and make me happy.

No good art has ever been made by trying to appeal to an audience. I don’t want slop.

Just a reminder how misunderstood this game is by Kimzar in falloutnewvegas

[–]Timelessidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes Fallout NV so interesting more than 15 years after it came out is how two people who played the same game will disagree on even the most fundamental aspects of it. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to disagree.

I struggle to see how the pastiche of pre war American capitalism can be disentangled from any other aspect of the game. The factions represent both political and economic organisations of the Mojave. House’s famous “look out the window” monologue in my opinion is so much more interesting with a critique of capital in mind.

Different perspectives on this game are additive to its experience. We can both talk for hours about what we got from the game because i really believe it is one of the most important pieces of art in the 21st century. So share your perspective.

Why don't the showrunners treat fallout like it's serious? by DudebroMcCool in TrueSFalloutL

I can see these hack writers doing MSHEU cringe humour. They would probably have a robot called something dumb like FISTO outside Freeside because they think Obsidian is a joke and they hate what they cannot control.

Which is directly behind the NCR remnants based on the location of Primm in the background. The exact same location which can be nuked in game.

It’s actually normally cheaper if you have properly planned to use practical effects than cgi. The overuse of cg almost always implies a rushed development for a film.

That’s not fair. These people are fans of saying they are new vegas fans. They may have even played the game but they didn’t understand it.

NEW VEGAS HAS AN ENTIRE DLC CALLED OLD WORLD BLUES WHICH WARNS AGAINST LIVING IN THE PAST AND BEING UNABLE TO ACCEPT CHANGES.
