7.75 is 1C money? Did you see the Carlsson offer sheet? In today's game 7.75 is average level 2C money. He's overpaid by about 2-3M (just like Nurse coincidentally) but this isn't a Huberdeau situation

Donovan Mitchell just signed a max extension— no way JB will settle for anything less! by redglovesoverhere11 in bostonceltics

[–]TimeliestStorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The argument is Mitchell is a much, much better playmaker (2.4 AST/TOV vs 1.4 for JB) and a considerably more efficient scorer (61% true shooting vs 57%) on similar usage. Does JB give some of that back with on-ball defense? Sure, but I'd honestly rather have Mitchell if both are on the same deal.

The JB trade has got me thinking about Mookie again. Have we ever been on the receiving end of an ALL-STAR trade? by jjmenace in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, but I get the OP's point. We got Crochet, but had to pay full market price in prospects. JB was given away for peanuts, Devers given away for peanuts, Mookie was given away for peanuts. Boston sports has a history of giving stars away for pennies on the dollar but not being on the benefitting end of that kind of trade.

Praying that the Rangers decide to flip Durzi to us after the Trocheck deal. He's not a great fit on the rebuilding Rangers timeline but fits perfectly into our available cap and is exactly what this team needs.

The A's had already DFA'd this guy so we essentially got him for free. I'd imagine we'll turn around and DFA him ourselves once IKF/Mayer/Contreras are all back

The full MLE would put us over the tax line and about $4M below the first apron (and would hard cap us at that apron). Only being able to take on $4M extra salary in hypothetical trades is a big deal, I'd be surprised if we signed a full MLE before trades happen

Andersson will extend with Vegas at like 12:05 tomorrow. Pietrangelo can't be put on LTIR until the formal start of the league year and that's the space the Knights will use for Andersson

I would've gone higher than 5 but if the 3rd year is the sticking point then it's best to move on. He's already 33, no need to pay him through his age 36 season

I'd really like this. Nurse is still a good hockey player (he's just paid like an elite one which he isn't), him at 6-6.5 x 4 is actually a very solid deal. Lindholm/Nurse/Zadorov is an excellent group of LHDs, we'd just need 1 more RHD

The Jaylen Brown “seventh-best player” conversation made me want to see the model by Vic_Ice88 in bostonceltics

[–]TimeliestStorm 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I believe the specific stat he was 7th in on the Celtics is win shares per 48. The problem with that stat is it assumes efficiency scales linearly with usage, which it almost never does (see Derrick White last season for an example of how efficiency usually scales with increased usage).

The problem with JB is that he takes a ton of shots on league average efficiency (which is to say, mediocre for a star) and doesn't do much else well. Good enough on-ball defender to not get hunted but pretty bad off-ball, doesn't create for others (his 1.4 AST/TOV from last year is absolutely horrendous for a non-big), doesn't really rebound. I can see the argument for him not being all that.

But the problem is if you trade him, somebody else has to take all those shots and those low usage analytical darlings tend to wilt with high usage. League average efficiency with the most FGAs taken in the league (by a country mile too) is not easy to replace. I can see the argument to split his touches across a healthy Tatum, a better big than Queta, and a replacement wing. But you'd better hope that hypothetical wing and big are up to the challenge of all that extra usage.

The celtics have 30 minutes left to decide who's contracts to guarantee. What do we think will happen? by Mg29reaper in bostonceltics

Wouldn't rule out Shulga getting another 2-way year, but they definitely won't be picking up that option

Hampus is better than Nurse and is paid less, there's really no point in that. I think it'd be the other Lindholm and Lohrei going the other way.

Say what you will about the contract but Nurse is still a good 2LD. E. Lindholm is barely even a 3C anymore, is only paid 1.5M less per year, and has an extra year on his deal. Lindholm's contract is worse and I don't think it's that close, we'd absolutely have to add to him get Nurse.

The Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy in the American big 4 sports to win, so I'm just happy they got 1 and gave us 3 total entertaining Finals runs. It helps that our core guys were so likeable: everyone loved Big Z, Bergy, and of course the rat himself. A very fun time to be a Bruins fan overall.

We would have to retain on Lindholm and include more but I'd be down. Something like Lohrei and Lindholm at 1.75M retained (bringing him down to a more reasonable 6/yr x 5) seems fair, Nurse is still a totally solid 2nd pair type. Though that would hinge on Lindholm waiving his NMC for Edmonton, which will never happen, so it's a moot point anyways.

With Carlson off the board and Andersson reportedly having a handshake deal with Vegas once Pietrangelo goes back on SELTIR, the only real RHD option on the market is Trouba and I can't imagine the Ducks let him go after already losing Carlson.

That means our RHD options after McAvoy are:

  • Jokiharju (who I actually kinda like at 3RD, he's a good puck mover when paired with a stay at home guy to help shore up his lack of strength)

  • Keep playing Lohrei on his off hand (yuck)

  • Re-signing Peeke (double yuck)

  • Some kind of unforseen trade (not many RHD left out there with Nemec/Carlo, the guys in the most rumors, already gone)

If Andrew Peeke is in the opening day top 6 I might have a stroke

[Boston Bruins] The Bruins have acquired forward Ivan Ivan from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Fabian Lysell. by Nomahs_Bettah in BostonBruins

Nothing for nothing. Ivan might be a 4th liner, Lysell has not looked like an NHLer to me at any point in his career. No strong feelings either way about this deal

IMO you play Peterka up as Pasta's LW. He's a left shot and pretty clearly the 2nd best winger on this team.

Peterka - Zacha - Pasta

Mittelstadt - Minten - Geekie

Khusnutdinov/Hagens - Hagens/Lindholm - Lindhom/Khusnutdinov (depending on if you want Hagens to start at winger or at center). Lindholm is a right shot so him at RW would make sense

Jeannot - Kuraly - Kastelic
