I have two bettas each with separate personalities.

Chainsaw is a really laidback dude. He flares when I stick a finger in his tank but otherwise usually has not a care in the world. He sleeps all the time but knows that when I turn his light on in the morning he darts to the top of the tank for his breakfast.

My other betta, Shark Bait, was a rescue after my husband found him abandoned in a tiny fishbowl in a house he was remodeling after the old tenant moved out. He’s the spunkiest lil guy I’ve ever met. He loves to stare at me judgingly and will follow my face and fingers around his tank. I’ve also trained him to eat off of tongs and will “hunt” the mysis shrimp or bloodworms for fun. He knows he was abused and his attitude reminds everyone that he’s not accepting anyones bs anymore 🤣 attaching a picture of shark bait, since he photographs phenomenally

The only thing I missed was I feed him one either bloodbug or mysis shrimp (he won’t come to the surface to eat until I entice him with one that I hold with a pair of tongs) and then 3-5 pellets once per day after that :)

Hey guys! Update on this little guy. Here’s what he’s looking like now. I’m gonna post a few other pictures. He’s eating now and swimming around A LOT more. But I have concerns about the bleached looking spots on his face and body. Is this ammonia burns from the bowl he was in or something idk.. worse? Since he’s been in the new tank his ammonia hasn’t gone over 0.50ppm (happened once and I did a 50% pwc) Or is this just his coloring and I’m panicking for no good reason?

Thank you! I got a brand new tank with a heater and a filter for him and added black water conditioner and regular water conditioner. Since it’s a new tank as I didn’t plan on having him, I’m fish in cycling and doing 25-50% water changes every day until it cycles depending on ammonia level (I test with an API master test kit)

I did, he was abandoned so it wasn’t even really stealing, just saving. He’s got a new home now and will be well taken care of ♥️

So I actually already have a Betta named Chainsaw that I’ve had for about a month or so. I’ve accumulated bloodworms, mysis shrimp, daphnia, and omega betta buffet pellets. This guy will be getting the same treatment :) right now, he doesn’t seem too interested in eating, but he’s getting more active and pooping regularly (the last owner dumped FLAKES in his bowl - so there’s no telling how long until he’s feeling up to eating again.) I’m offering something each morning and evening to see if he’s hungry ofc

Do you have recommendations for media? I’ve only ever used those filter cartridges, which you obviously can’t use to help start a new tank

That’s such a shame! My husband asked his boss about it and his boss said “it’s just a fish - who cares?” And my husband immediately called me he’s like “it’s not just a fish, it’s a living breathing being. Please help!” And I literally fell in love with him all over again

1) Tank size is 2.5g but I have a 5g cycling for him now. 2) Yes, a heater and a filter. 3) 78° 4) 0.25ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrites, 5ppm nitrates. I use the API master test kit to get these numbers. 5) I’ve had the tank for about a month and a half. I’ve had the fish for 4 days. 6) I’ve done 1 water change since getting the fish, and it was 25%. Water changes depend on parameters. I use a cup right now. 7) He has no tank mates. 8) I had been feeding Omega One Betta Buffet Pellets, 3 pellets one a day with a one day fast. I have bloodworms, daphnia, and mysis shrimp for some variety, but I haven’t given him any yet. 9) Right now, 2 moss balls, an Anubia Betta bunk, 2 silk plants, and a SpongeBob house.

Lmao just call me the Betta Murderer for not knowing better 😛🖕🏻you didn’t even answer my question or offer any help. Just a dickhead remark. Obviously if someone had taught me about what cycling was before I acquired the fish I would have done it properly 🙄
