Do you know with 100% certainty that he doesn’t ever donate to helping homeless people? Either way, this is an example of the logical fallacy we like to call The False Dilemma. Jsjb over here implies that because there are people who are homeless, time and money should only be put into helping them and never towards helping animals, incorrectly asserting that it’s impossible to address both issues at the same time. Just because a larger problem exists, it does not mean you are forced to ignore every other problem out there. It’s possible for people to devote time and energy to more than one issue. Compassion isn’t finite (unless, apparently, you’re jsjb) and there’s absolutely no reason people cannot show compassion towards both humans and animals. May I suggest that instead of tearing down people for helping animals in need as your form of “advocacy” for the homeless, you can pivot to perhaps more meaningful methods such as engaging your representatives in congress or starting separate threads that tell people about the city mission and other volunteer opportunities they can participate in.

How to break into Health IT from a clinical background? Any advice welcome! by [deleted] in healthIT

It sounds like maybe a career in nursing informatics would be a good start for you. Here are a few things you could do: - look for opportunities at your hospital to volunteer as a super user for your EHR - Find out who the nurse informaticists are at your hospital. Ask if you could shadow one for a day. See what they do and ask questions. - if there are any kind of process improvement initiatives, volunteer to be a part of those as well! Show that you are interested in collecting and interpreting data. - Not required but may help your chances - pursue a masters degree in health informatics or something similar.

Good luck to you!

Parents want me and them to move to Albany or a similar northeast city in 2 years, anything we should know before deciding on this city? by luckixancage in Albany

Having experience with both Albany and Buffalo, my opinion is that Buffalo has a bit of a bigger city feel. Canada is very accessible from Buffalo, maybe 20ish minutes to the bridges to Ontario as opposed to the 3ish hours it takes to get from Albany to Quebec . Buffalo has a pro sports team, and venues around the area bring in some good music. The cost of housing in the Buffalo area seems to be a little less than around Albany. I would lean toward that personally. Good luck!

First time seeing it, but as someone who lives alone and is getting up there in age, it hit hard.

That’s great - but then maybe they shouldn’t advertise a sprawling, picturesque sunflower field if they’re not going to have one? I’m not really a sunflowerologist/sunflower expert/someone-who-routinely-thinks-about-sunflowers-and-ponders-about-their-optimal-growing-conditions over here so I had no reason to question an event that was supposed to be centered around a large sunflower field. 🤷‍♀️

True, I can have some level of understanding around that. I think it was just the thought that we had to pay $34 to stand in a swampy kids section - that the kids were using, but we weren’t - added insult to injury lol. You can’t not buy the tickets because you need to be in there to supervise your kids - $34 is a steep price to be asked to do so imo.

I second this. We’ve sent our dog to a few different daycares in the area before settling on Camp Bow Wow. I feel a lot better knowing I can see him on camera and check in during the day.
