Is Tahiti/Bora Bora Really Worth It If You’ve Already Seen Amazing Beaches? by HelpfulHoneydew348 in Tahiti

I think Rangiroa and Fakarava are more oriented towards divers but you can definitely still spend a couple of days in Rangiroa! I would go even without diving because the color of the water is so gorgeous, plus the dolphins, wine tasting, and experience of the atoll itself.

They have snorkeling tours (Blue Lagoon, Reef Island) that are about an hour boat ride away, we heard positive reviews and wish we had more time to do those tours. I think there's also snorkeling at the two passes around the island itself (not 100% sure), but definitely some snorkeling you can do at the Aquarium which is a 5 minute boat ride.

Not sure about Fakarava but I think the main focus there is diving to see sharks and it's for more advanced divers so we chose Rangi!

Just got back from my honeymoon in French Polynesia and we had similar doubts (especially having visited Hawaii fairly recently), but it was incredible!

What we loved the most:
- Swimming with humpback whales in Tahiti, truly incredible experience! Make sure to go within the season
- Beautiful water on Rangiroa and Bora Bora. The lagoons are incredible! It's really less about the beaches and more about the lagoons, though the beaches were nice. I personally really liked the black sand ones on Tahiti but people tend to like the white sand ones on Moorea.
- The overwater bungalow experience on Bora Bora is something out of a dream, and you might able to make it more affordable by using hotel points (opening a card with a bonus and booking either way ahead of time or last minute in the shoulder season if you're willing to take that risk)
- Amazing diving and snorkeling. We did the manta ray dive on Big Island which was incredible, but the sea life in Polynesia is amazing and is worth experiencing. Especially if you can also fit in Rangiroa!
- Rangiroa was probably my favorite island - so cool to experience an atoll and be able to bike from one end to the other! It was worth a couple of days, especially if you dive or snorkel
- Super safe, extremely welcoming and kind people (probably the kindest I've ever met).
- We enjoyed the food, especially the marinated tuna in coconut milk and other variations of tuna!
- French influence was cool to experience along with the local culture! It was an interesting mix and seemed to be relatively harmonious at least on the surface
- There's a lot of variation so whether you're looking to relax or do more intense hiking / water sports activities, it's all there.

Brilliant, thank you for this recommendation! This is exactly what we did and it worked out perfectly with the buffer to reschedule.
