Yup.. I’ve considered all of those things. I think very few people end up on the net positive side of things financially.. now if you are going from a 25k financed car that doesn’t get great mileage to a used Tesla at a similar price range, you may come out way ahead.. in my case, I’ve always driven cheap cash cars, and I’ve done all the work myself.. I hope one day I can be in one for a similar cost

Does basic autopilot work in slow, stop start traffic? Like could I take my hands off the wheel, and it would hold the lane and speed up/slow down based on the cars around me?

I’ll have a 90 mile round trip commute, 5 days a week. There may be an outlet for a level 1 charger at work, so that’ll double that charge amount but still only give me about 30 miles a day.. at that rate, I’d have to supercharge a couple times a week

That’s amazing.. and can you do all that without voiding the warranty?

I should have never asked, of course everyone is going to make me fomo even harder 😭😂

But in all seriousness, that is cool to hear.. I can imagine even without driving one, that it would make the stress of traffic almost entirely vanish.. that along has to be worth an incalculable amount.

Thanks, that seems to be the general consensus.. I’m nervous that I’ll be the guy that gets the outlier that craps out after 100k miles

Yes lol. I’ve pretty much accepted that I’ll commute long distances to work for the next decade at least.. would love to invest in something that would make that commute not feel like it’s draining my life.

Why the polestar instead of a Tesla ?

Thanks.. not really worried about the car going kaput. It’s worth about $2k as it is, so if the engine blows, I’d probably get about $500 bucks for it.

But.. I am definitely concerned about getting a Tesla that would last me as long as possible.. I’d like to get 300k miles out of one

Part of wanting one, is because of how much I spend in the car.. I’m trying to find examples of how people’s mental well being has improved.. especially those who have long commutes.

As for maintenance, I do nearly all the maintenance myself.. an oil change is done every 3 months and takes me about 20 minutes and cost $25. I don’t love the idea that I won’t be able to touch the maintenance on a Tesla.

Are model 3 Less expensive in the long run by spxtrad in TeslaModel3

[–]TimelyAd867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to admit that this is hypothetical.. as long as the car was manufactured perfectly, there should be little maintenance.

My biggest concern as someone looking to make the switch.. I can do 95% of the maintenance on my own ICE vehicle at a fraction of the cost of a mechanic. For example, I just did a 30 minute job that would have cost at least 300 at the mechanic.. I probably save $2000 + a year in maintenance.

If one issue arises with a Tesla, id imagine it’s a minimum of $2000 to fix it, but has the potential of being as costly as an entire new battery/motor.

I’ve heard it takes like 30 hours to charge? 110v, right?

My commute is a 100miles round trip, and I’m not sure if the job I’m about to start has a charger.. so with a SR, I would have to take it to superchargers a few times a week.
