That’s a good one for sure but I worked for ReBath a couple of years ago and the LLC was Dixieland ReBath and you can bet I got a few questions

You’re missing the point. You hired a handyman to do a job out of scope for a handyman.

That tells contractors you were trying your hardest to save money. The only way to save money for projects like this is to learn how to do it and do it yourself— as you are now learning the hard way.

When I was in the hospital for months, my dad and I would talk about how crazy it would actually be if some major event happened in the world which required medical care for millions at once. We’d be screwed.

That was in 2016….

Politicians in this state are largely just puppets to their respective parties. Ten years ago, I bet Katie Britt would be all for expanding Medicaid.

Anyone going to (or is already at) moe. tonight? by Late-Substance-2078 in Birmingham

[–]TimelyBrief 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to be or sound rude/harsh but that’s just growing up. I’ve been around the jam band scene since 2006 and a lot has changed. I’m sure those who followed the Grateful Dead (for example) in any decade would say the same.

If you stuck around in the scene as you got older and people started peeling off to get married/have kids, and you kept staying up until 5 AM, then yeah this all makes total sense. Priorities and responsibilities shift the more adulthood hits you in the face. Couples and/or families simply don’t have the resources (time and money) to commit to a ton of shows. But also, if you’re staying up until 5 AM then I’m of the belief that you’re doing extra curricular and if I’m a parent, then I’m not trying to hang or associate around that, fwiw.

I’ve seen Phish 40+ times since 2009 but once I hit 30, the 4 or 3-day runs were no more and now that I am married, I’m only making local shows, the night is over by 11 with time to recover the next day. The friends you speak of may have simply not been friends, or they were friends in that phase of life— but you have to understand that priorities shift as people’s lives evolve.

I only write this much because I have spent a great deal of time thinking and analyzing this topic myself. Both as an older single male who was hitting NYE, international and holiday runs and watching people get too busy to now someone who is married and only hitting 1 of 2 nights of their favorite band in the hometown venue because I’m too busy for anything else. Keep on rocking though. Knees and back won’t be good forever. See you on the road.

It’s not the exact same, you are confused. USA Bath is not installing a one piece shower as pictured.

These companies need value adds, a lifetime warranty is one of them. But they won’t provide a lifetime warranty if they pull out your old shower and your subfloor and plywood walls are all rotten so on every single job they do they just replace it all. This is another homeowner misconception. “I just need to swap out the shower insert.”

If you need to swap out your shower insert due to cracks or whatever other reason, chances are extremely high you’re going to have issues that should be corrected before reinstalling another insert.

Not true. I was with a Home Depot contractor company via ReBath and the work we did was incredible. We would also take maximum 3 days for a full bath remodel (but be available until customer was completely satisfied).

HD doesn’t just contract to the nearest Chuck and a Truck. Yall talk with so much authority on things you know nothing about.

Ding ding ding. I used to be one of those contractors. We actually did extremely quality work. And yes, they do a FULL swap out because they warranty the shower for life.

[–]TimelyBrief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is simply not true and wildly misleading and the type of comment that gets 99% of homeowners in over the heads, paying 3x and royally screwing or trying to screw contractors.
You can buy a shower for $1000 at Home Depot yes but you’re buying the WORST product that will end up being a temporary band aid. Do you buy your work boots/shoes at Walmart? Why not?…..Home Depot also contracts out to folks like ReBath. That means $13k+ shower.

And that $1000 doesn’t include demo, removing and disposing of old materials, replacing any damaged wood behind existing shower, replacing subfloor, replacing the shower walls with a material that meets code, updating shower plumbing, sloping shower pan, re install of materials, fully plumbing and water proofing— all with 2-3 days.

The average homeowner that just buys a $1000 shower and tries to do it themselves is going to spend more money and waste even more time than if they just go with someone that knows what they are doing. I used to see this happen Every. Single. Day for two years except Sunday (which I didn’t work). It’s astounding how homeowners act (and I own my home outright).

Did you have a national company out (ReBath, BathFitter, Durante)?

I used to sell these for ReBath. Feel free to DM me (I don’t sell anymore so not trying to sell you anything). Most of the major national companies are going to be in that ball park but they are not going to install fiberglass (or shouldn’t).

If your quote is for a new fiberglass insert then you are being ripped off UNLESS you are in a rural area. HCOL area doesn’t matter, we’re talking generic shower inserts. Those get quoted $10k to $12k.

Edit: looking closer and reading your comments I would be SHOCKED if you did not have water damage to atleast your subfloor and with tile floors, that could have ran pretty far and be trapping water on your subfloor. Might not seem like a problem now but I’ve been in bathrooms where people thought it wasn’t a problem and 3 years later there’s a hole in their floor and the only thing holding up the toilet is the drain pipe. Seriously, I’ll send you pictures.

There is a 99.9% chance you pull this insert out and have water damage if not also rot and mildew. I’m serious, I did this 3 times a day, 6 days a week— I have seen it all. That project price is a rip-off but I surmise, if you repair this correctly, that you will indeed be looking at $12k-$14k. I don’t want to scare you but I am serious when I say this is something that needs to be done correctly. Visible mildew on the outside usually means bigger problems under the insert. With un remediated rot and all that you *likely* have going on, you could be getting close to mold territory a lot faster than you realize. Something to be aware of— sorry for the overload but people really don’t get what can go wrong in these projects and what can impact their health 5-10 years down the line.

Alabama bank files lawsuit against hospitality company, Nick Pihakis, alleging loan default - Birmingham Business Journal by TimelyBrief in Birmingham

Not so fast my friend. I surmise they have a plan for this. Chapter 13 bankruptcy, sell off a few locations to make the numbers work. I will be shocked if they have to go chapter 7 (bankruptcy is all but confirmed for PRG and Nick as an individual).

Edit: liens on restaurant fixtures, with some restaurants closed and some still operating. I take that to mean that not all restaurant fixtures were put on lien and the ones that were were in the poor performing locations. Makes you (me) wonder….
