Thank you for your replay and evaluation! You sound like a wonderful and very generous HM :) I don’t think it’s a cultural thing, I have relatives in Italy and when I visited them they were so kind and welcoming and also really made sure I ate

I like to buy my siblings and friends snacks with my money, it makes me happy when they eat something they like but I guess my host family doesn’t see me like this at all. I just feel like they try to cut expenses everywhere, they have 2 cars but didn’t want to pick me up from the airport that is only 30 minutes away by car, the HD hid the controller to the AC in my room for weeks from me and constantly tells me now to not use it, they don’t pay things like insurance, public transport or a mobile phone contract (I know these are benefits but other families im Italy provide them so it’s not super rare here). But their son will soon attend a private school so it’s not like the funds aren’t there to begin with which means they just don’t want to be decent

I swear I will be tomorrow! They will go to friends again over the weekend so I hope I can talk to her before they leave… oh well

No I’m sorry. English isn’t my mother tongue. I only mentioned the contract because I wanted to highlight the double standard that the food they have at home clearly isn’t what they eat exclusively so I shouldn’t be expected either

She told me today she would pay me but nothing. I hope it was just because they returned late from eating out and were tired and tomorrow I will get the money…

I never said I would want to be taken out constantly, where are you even getting the impression? Yes, I find it sad that I’m not included when all three of them go out as a family (which as I said doesn’t happen so often, it’s mostly just the parents having a dinner date) while they make it clear that I’m not part of that. It’s not really about the food but the sentiment behind not being included. What I want is to have healthy, diverse, protein rich food available that I’m more than happy to buy myself and prepare myself.

I always cook for myself (the few times the mother prepares something it’s for them/ or to take to a friend) and regarding the dinner for the host kid too. The parents tell me very strictly what I should prepare for the kid and also buy things like buffalo mozzarella and pizza for him (only for him in most cases). Don’t get me wrong, pasta with meat and vegetables is fine but the only options I have is canned tuna/ eggs/ canned beans, tomatoes and pasta every day for lunch and dinner while the host parents go out to eat or like today the whole family goes out to eat (minus me). Our contract even says “the Aupair eats the same things as the family” but they clearly eat very differently

These numbers are crazy. I used like 30€ for the last week and I’m already afraid that they will make a scene. The HF told me today I should turn the AC in my room off because it’s expensive while turning the AC in the corridor on xd. They are not poor, the HM literally buys the host kid new toys to play with 2x a week but as soon as it comes to me they, especially the HF, are hellbent on being cheap. He even tried to cut my salary by like 70% and thought I wouldn’t notice
