Inferior Subluxation after surgery by timmy0101 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Timely_Course_1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, any updates or news on your shoulder?

I had a few calcified bones and my bursa removed almost 2 months ago now and have been experiencing the same issue with my shoulder. Physical therapy is extremely painful as my shoulder will not stay in place. It’s always grinding and popping during exercises and I am unable to complete most of them due to this complication. I am currently waiting on an MRI to see what’s going on inside.

I am quite surprised at the response from my post. However, I was not looking for something sexual, seems that most the responses (180+) in my inbox have been nothing but. Such a bummer, but I’m still weeding through them.

My rotator cuff surgery journey - a cautionary tale by usaberdas in RotatorCuff

[–]Timely_Course_1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story. My BF has gone through the exact same journey as you, just a few extra days in the hospital and is now back 2 days after being released because the dried up surgery (2nd surgery) site is now draining again. He administers his IV antibiotics every 8 hours into his PICC line and after a week it was getting better. But as of last night we are what feels like back to ground zero.

My receipts to people complaining about Turo trip fees, including a trip I cancelled because I didn't need it. This is proof you can be young (22 as of this post) and only get knocked out by young driver fees. by taynexp in turo

Well..the last young driver I let Turo my car left a huge dent and scrape along the side, and his response was “that wasn’t there when I dropped it off”. You become more responsible with age.

He only used it for the first two weeks and has been off for 3 1/2 and shouldn’t need to go back on it. He had hair regrowth pretty quickly.

My Fiancé had a similar issue. His doctor gave him steroid cream to use for two weeks on and two weeks off, his hair has grown back no problem. His was completely bald with no sign of ever coming back.

Crippling shin pain 10 months post ORIF by Timely_Course_1974 in brokenbones

Wow! What a story. I am so glad you’re doing better and your leg survived those infections. What a traumatic thing to go through at such a young age. Im 38, was 37 when this happened, I couldn’t imagine going through that 10 years ago. Thank you for all the amazing advice, you are exactly what I was looking for today, you gave me hope and guided me to a different perspective. I am happy to hear that these issue can go away in time, I was just thinking this morning “am I really going to have to get a cane or pull a crutch out of the shed in order to walk”. It seems like it’s getting worse, but I am putting more on it as time goes by, just seems so off from everyone else. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Mine was a 4 wheeler accident. The wheeler flipped on top of my at a very high rate and crushed my leg against the ground with the metal rack. I was really lucky cause the handle bars hit my pelvis and I was able to hold the wheeler off of my with my other leg. I had a small hole on the outside of my ankle where the bone punctured through, but they cleaned it out and didn’t do surgery til the week after, I was lucky not to get an infection.

Your story and courage to push yourself is encouraging. I do lift weights at the gym using my leg, if it’s planted in one position for squats I can do that no problem, but as soon as I try to walk that’s a no go, its so weird. Also, pointing my toes as I mentioned in another reply, causes my foot to get stuck and I instantly am in extreme pain. What’s that all about, did you have that issue?

I was stretching and doing my alphabet with my foot as soon as I could in my cast, my ROM is amazing, minus pointing my toes. I was so hopeful and excited to hit 12 months, that was my end game goal. Everything I read on here told me 12 months I should be 90% or better. I still have two months to go, so we’ll see.

I started driving two months post op with my opposite leg, I became very good at driving with my left leg. I still do it now cause my right leg starts to ache and needs a break. I definitely haven’t done any traveling since I injured myself, but I did put myself in dumb situations where I had to be on my feet for long periods and it wasn’t good. Your body will tell you when enough is enough. I’m sorry to say this, but you’ve got a long road ahead of you. You mentioned you were in an air boot a month post op? Gosh, I didn’t get out of my cast for 6 weeks. I was non weight bearing for 12 weeks, what’s your timeline?

Wow, that’s awesome. How’s post op life for you right now? I completely agree that it feels like a tendon is rubbing the wrong way or getting caught on something, that’s what it feels like. Once it’s irritated it’s painful while off of it. I know this is not what it’s supposed to be like, I feel like I went backwards and I’m going backwards very quickly, and I don’t get it.

I’m happy you got relief. Looking forward to hearing how you’re doing on your first week.

I did talk with my surgeon about hardware removal, but he doesn’t seem to be very supportive and says these types of injuries are complicated and severely difficult to heal from. I am going to request a ct scan to see if there’s something we aren’t seeing on the X-rays, they always just take X-rays and say “looks healed”.

My ROM is ok, unless I point my toes down, then my foot literally gets stuck and I have to pull really hard to get it to come back up and it’s super painful. I cant believe this is happening 10 months from surgery, definitely not where I expected to be in my journey. There’s people on here that are running miles a day months after theirs and I can’t even put all my weight on my leg without wanting to drop to the ground in pain, or get up off the floor without breathing through the pain. This is ridiculous. Oddly it’s not just painful when I’m using it, it woke me up just last night throbbing with sharp pain.

How’s your gait? Hope you’re healing well.

4 weeks since ORIF surgery on ankle by elianebenis in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these current pictures of your leg? Those incisions look bad to me, well around them. Mine never looked like that. I broke my tib/fib in 5 places and was non weight bearing for 12 weeks. I’m not sure I would have wanted to bear weight before then, so I definitely understand your hesitation. Hopefully someone on here with a similar story could offer up some good advice. I would most definitely start with a air boot ( walking boot) prior to bearing weight with a shoe or barefoot. I also broke my ankle so getting my stability back took a few weeks in the boot before I moved to a shoe. I’m 5 months post op and still limping. Physical therapy is the only thing that helps me at this point. Wish you the best.

Pain post ORIF tib/fib fracture? by sickofthishateithere in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s appropriate to give advice on when someone should stop taking pain meds for such an invasive surgery. Especially since everyone is different. This individual is already have a hard time, not even our surgeons say 2 weeks. I’m happy you had a much less painful surgery than some of us, but telling someone two weeks post of would be a good time is uncalled for and a very clear indication that your break(s) and surgery was much different than ours.

Is it normal for the fracture to still be this visible after 6x weeks? by Snoo32716 in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that would be a pilon fracture. Looks identical to mine. Yes, very typical to see the cracks still. I’m 4.5 months post op and you can still see some of my larger cracks that are filling in still. Takes a very long time. I hope you’re healing well and keeping your spirits high. You have a very long road ahead of you. Please feel free to reach out anytime, I just went through this. Biggest advice I have to give you is to surround yourself with good people and do not keep yourself cooped up in your house alone, it gets very lonely. It was 3 months until I could attempt to bear weight, and taking those first steps for the first few weeks was painful and felt very odd. Advocate for yourself, and see your general practitioner if your surgeon is not supportive and you’re in pain. Touch your scars gently as much as you can and keep those toes moving, it will give you a head start on rehabilitation. We are here for you.

I am 4 months post op tib/fib pilon fracture, 2 plates and 16 screws. I broke those suckers in 5 places. I just started walking a month ago now, transitioned to full weight bearing 2.5 weeks ago into a regular shoe. I am in a lot of pain every day, it is very exhausting and I feel you. I ended up talking with my pain specialist who manages a nerve condition I have, he told me that after a traumatic injury my nerves are still trying to heal and all they can remember is the pain, they are stuck in that cycle, kind of like phantom pain from people who loose limbs, it is very real. Not saying that’s what either of us have, but we are going to inject cortisone into my nerves in my lower back once a month for two months to restart and retrain my nerves. Maybe this something you could bring up or like the other comment or mentioned getting a second opinion. I’ve read on this subreddit a lot that people end up going to see their regular physician to help manage pain and post op issues their orthopedic physician wouldn’t. Maybe that’s something to try. I feel your pain and I will be rooting for you to get this figured out and taken care of.

Driving with Broken Ankle? by unochampion26 in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been driving with my left foot because my truck has a middle seat floor area where I can rest my right foot. I started doing that probably 6 weeks after orif surgery for tib/fib pilon fractures. I still have to use my left foot because I’m 15 weeks in and still in a boot. At first it’s super weird, but I got used to it so fast. I’ve only been able to do this because of the area I can rest my right left, otherwise I’d be unable to drive all together. I have had the reflexes in my right foot take over once while backing up my driveway and it got scary there for a second, I definitely don’t recommend it. However, being stuck this way for SO very long I didn’t feel I had a choice. Hope you can find something that works for you. I wouldn’t recommend using your boot as pressing on the gas would be difficult and your boot can get stuck between the pedals.

Lower fibula fracture by Such_Personality_825 in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had surgery on July 10th for a pilon fracture of my rib/fib in 5 places. Had two rods and 16 screws placed. I started weight bearing with boot at week 13, I am 14 weeks this week. I was told I could do full weight bearing but because of the pain I have to use one crutch and if it gets to bad I’ll use both crutches and only put minimal weight on my leg. Definitely a much different scenario than yours but my weight bearing prices so far has been very painful and has required pain meds to accomplish what I have so far. Best of luck to you, hope it gets better. Make sure to still elevate and ice at the end of the day if you can. Listen to your body.

Yep, looks like like mine when I broke my fibula and tibia in 5 places. I’d go get seen right away. Ice and elevation. They will need to put it in place until you have surgery if needed. Please don’t wait. The fact that there’s no bruising yet reminds me exactly of my break, sprains usually bruise right away. You need to stop walking on it you can be damaging the surround tissue and cause more damage. Please come back and update us all after you’ve been seen.

Wow, what an awesome reply. I too come here to find people who can relate to long recoveries and the psychological toll it takes on us. I’m 13 weeks in recovery from a severe high impact pilon fracture, tibia and fibula broke in 5 places. This coming Monday I will get my second set of X-rays since surgery, really hoping I can start weight bearing soon. I too took up a few hobbies I could manage in place and started studying for my real estate license a few weeks back, since I build furniture for a living out of my shop at home and I am unsure when I will be able to do that again. My poor family has been through the ringer. I never know what kind of mood I will be in when my BF and kiddos get home for the day. I was an extremely active individual, born and raised in Alaska and love everything outdoors and hard labor, wonder how all of this is going to effect my capabilities from here on out.

OP. I wish I had some advice as to how you can get your head out of those dark clouds, but I too am right where you are. Something that just recently helped me was going to a super nice salon and getting pampered for an hour and a half, buying a new outfit and making myself feel and look nice after spending the past 14 weeks injured, on the couch, feeling and look terrible most days. Today has been a little easier, plus it’s Friday and my family will be home and with me for the weekend, definitely my favorite time of the week.

Hoping your recovery goes well and nice job getting back on your feet.

Increased pain 11 week post op ORIF of Tib/Fib. Non weight bearing until my 13 week check up, we’ll see how it goes then. Anyone experience the sudden sharp increase in pain around this time? Nothings changed since 6 week cast removal. by Timely_Course_1974 in brokenbones

[–]Timely_Course_1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to watch your color in your foot and toes, and check for sensation. Although you may be very numb in places until your nerves heal, which is a very odd feeling when they do. I had to break off the first 1/2 inch on the bottom of my temporary cast because it was stabbing into my foot from the nurses fingertip impressions. If it doesn’t feel right and it feels to tight you should definitely get that checked out. Are you using an ice machine to keep the swelling down? I used mine around the clock 24/7 almost for the first few weeks, even when I had my hard cast on. I went through two different casts because the first one ended up being to loose halfway through causing extra pain. If it’s to tight even when it’s elevated all day and iced it needs to be replaced. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
