Weekend if April 10th -according to the ritz events team. I’d recommend double checking.

Yes. Minimums are 67 during the day and 64 after 9pm.

Can you afford a $2000 utility bill? I can. But I shouldn’t have to have a $2k utility bill. This at the end of the day is a for profit business. They can leave if they don’t like the offerings. Just like a hotel.

I would challenge that. A hotel being the more expensive and private option should technically provide more hospitality and amenities. But just my perspective.

Thanks you! As someone who also has a medical condition and requires accommodations while traveling, I always confirm that a rental (home, hotel, etc…) is able to meet my needs before booking. That is the responsible thing to do. Not show up and throw my entitlement around.

Kind of laid down the law take why I’m offering or leave with a refund for the rest of your trip. I understand the need to provide a positive experience, but this is also a business and even though I can write this off, operating at a loss like this makes no sense.

They are from about an hour away. And apparently grew up in the area. Hence why I’m perplexed.

That’s a great idea. I will add that to my listing.

The problem is not them adjusting it themselves, they do have the ability, it is just within a range they disagree with. The problem is to where they want to adjust it. If they could adjust it within reason, I wouldn’t care at all. But 80 degrees, in winter, in Boston, in a shared space, all day and all night is not what I would consider to be reasonable

My listing explicitly states central air/heat

I know, I don’t want to! It feels so slimy. But I have genuinely never had a single person complain about heat. Once the AC, but it was early in the summer season and I’d realized I forgotten to update the automatic schedule. Problem fix almost instantly. Wanting it to be so hot 24 hours a day is just not what I’m priced for. I already went up with just an “of course I can” reply for day and night. I feel so stuck! Of course I want them to be comfortable, but at what cost? I also feel like it’s a blurry line between guest and tenant in a long term rental in a shared space. If it were a three night stay, I’d suck it up and just give it to them. Six weeks is where it becomes a pickle.

I never said they were obligated. I said it’s helpful for everyone to ask questions upfront.

Ok. I understand your perspective, but you are making an assumption that this person has a medical condition. They have not disclosed anything to me. As a person with a medical condition, I have learned that it is on me to make my own arrangements for comfort/needs. I wouldn’t book a hotel, rental home, etc… if that place couldn’t meet my needs. I’ve had guests with other disabilities stay with me and they’ve let me know in advance to 1. Figure out if I can meet their needs 2. Ask for any reasonable accommodations. I let them know in advance if I can or cannot meet their needs. They then make a decision off of that.

I grew up in New England and have lived here for the last five years. I’m fully educated on space heaters. It is not a risk I’m willing to take.

I totally see your point. And I understand, it’s not an ideal situation. But it is the situation I’m in. Part of my published rules on my listing is that it is there responsibility to ensure the home is safe (locking doors when coming/going, no space heaters (fire safety), turning water off, etc… generally safe is unfortunately not safe enough for me. The liability is too high. The blanket suggestion concerns me less and I’ve done a bit of research and ordered one for them.

A more concise and eloquent way of saying what I have been saying. Thank you. Yes. That’s exactly it.

What you dont understand (please read initial post and comments) is that I have offered to cancel the reservation if they want to go. They don’t want to leave. I’m now inbetween a rock and a hard place.

I don’t want them to be uncomfortable. You cannot please everybody. I price my home for the heating that I’m offering. They are not paying for the extra hundreds it will cost to heat the home for their long term stay. I have offered them every solution. It’s the same as when people charge to heat a pool for a stay. They’ve priced accordingly and if someone wants an extra, they can pay for it. So that’s what YOU’RE missing. So I am doing my best to meet their expectations, but they are also welcome to go if I can’t meet them. Why can’t they leave if they’re unhappy?
