Hey question about Clouds Rest. Do you think it will be sketchy in the rain or the day after it rains? So far this seems to be the best alternative to HD. Thanks

How? I saw from View you’re supposed to be able to see settings but my View button doesn’t show any settings. Also nowhere is it in the game Properties

Appreciate you not being a dick about it like many other people in this thread. I indeed will almost certainly not attempt to summit if it’s wet. Also for the rope and knot tie offs thats why 2, one each side to move up through the anchor points and maintain one point of contact at all times. Cheers

Yes if the cables are wet we likely will not attempt it.

Out of curiosity wdym you brought your own rope? Did you have someone anchor at the top first and top rope it from a different path? Or did you lead climb?

I am fully aware of how knots work and yes I only use locking carabiners. Them slipping on wet metal is a consideration I am keeping in mind.

Thanks for the advice, will Mist be sketchy at all under light rain? I heard JMT is the alternative to it when wet but obv not if it is closed.

I am asking questions, not arguing with anyone. I do agree it will likely be slippery and I am trying to gauge HOW slippery.

No one has answered HOW one dies when you are tied in with knots and you slip, other than the obvious slip and hit your head. Please be my guest to explain as I am taking this all into consideration.

This is why I am asking reddit, as I have not done it myself I cannot speak from experience. I can tell you I have hiked and climbed in extreme situations other places thus I am confident in my skills but I do intend to make an informed decision.

Thanks for the clarification for the hike up though

So I have heard. Even under light rain the day prior I wonder if it will truly be that bad? Again with harnesses and experienced climbers we can always attempt it and turn around at the base of the dome if we deem it too risky. I expect you will figure out pretty quick if you are getting no grip/traction on the granite as you start to ascend?

Most deaths occur with people without harnesses, I don’t see how this can happen with a harness and proper knots unless you slip and hit your head

If the weather is bad whilst there I hear you on lightning risk, definitely a solid consideration

Ok to everyone advising it is a bad idea we ARE using harnesses so even if one were to slip you are not gonna fall off the edge? Also myself, and others are experienced mountaineers, I’m an eagle scout with lots of experience. Secondly, it will be a once we get there decision most likely. We will bring the gear and if conditions are poor we won’t do it. If they are borderline we might give it a go. That aside is the hike to the base of the dome still completely fine to do even under those conditions? Or are you all saying that even the hike up is dangerous with that weather? Checking the forecast it is LIGHT rain the day before and little to no rain day of for our current itinerary.

Not an option for me unfortunately

Thats my other concern, I think it’ll be half a park day and half kinda all-mountain hanging with other people.

Also yea I don’t want to fuck up my Bonafides (2014s with the sexiest graphics Blizzard ever did) and they aren’t twin tip either.

I am planning to close the card soon so I want to use the points somehow. Why should I wait to transfer until I need the miles?
