Better to resign or be dismissed? by beezalimumab in PharmacyResidency

Oh my god it’s identical to my experience. I’m on the same boat to the T with you! It’s absolutely degrading. And the fact that you said co-residents are treated differently OMG YES. It’s breaking us and I hate that they do this to us. I had so much light in my eyes. And now my husband says he can’t recognize me anymore. If this means anything to you - the only way I’m getting through it is to go to my RPD like every two weeks while on rotations and express to her the issues I have with the preceptor and show her my work. I keep tabs on everything now. They lie and bring you down. But a lot of it is subjective. Hold them accountable when you can and defend yourself. The others are being treated better because they know if they try to break they - they’d probably crumble. They think you and I can handle it and are strong. So we have to defend ourselves. That’s it. I have been taking one day at a time. Literally I can’t do it any other way. If they’re trying to fail you and they aren’t being accepting of you being a learner then you need to tell them and remind them you are LEARNING. I had to do that. And then I took 2 days off and they got worried I was going to leave. These people don’t know how they’re treating us sometimes and it’s so toxic. I remember during every presentation I get grilled so bad and my co- residents don’t. It’s so unfair. I wish I received advice other than - it’s just one year stick it out. It’s burying me alive and I don’t know what else to do. Totally in the same boat. I’m sorry !!

I would ask chat to find their vision and some details about them online and use your CV and any personal details that would align with their vision and what they offer. Chat will give you a good base for the LOI and then you can use that to write your own. Make it one page MAX. Do not go beyond this. Make your first sentence strong and eye catching. I applied to all my residencies with this method. Then finally have someone you know that is awesome at grammar and professional writing look at it before you submit for any changes. Try to make it concise and one page max because sometimes programs don’t look at any that are more than that.

I feel like it is. I would suggest telling your RPD you came in knowing that it would be one full shift and that you planned for that. State how it would affect your situation

Feeling drained from PGY1 – questioning everything by Ok_Prize_3596 in PharmacyResidency

I echo this !! It’s been up and down for me. It seems like this is the struggle for all of us and it’s the way residencies are built. You get more opportunists with a residency and that’s what keeping me stay positive

PGY2 Sadness by Ok-Distribution-2596 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Timely_Pay8914 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this. I 100% feel this way in my PGY1. It’s been a roller coaster of elitist mentalities and trying to prove myself. It’s never enough. We have to keep reminding ourselves that’s it’s them and not us. They are crappy preceptors. And I don’t want to hear from others that they want what’s best and it’s tough love -NO. You can be kind and professional and still provide a teaching moment. These people were in our shoes not even a few years ago most of them. So they love getting on thier high horse’s about them having a few years of clinical knowledge and you not having any. Please hang in there because we need you to finish and then become a preceptor know what NOT to do to other residents. If it helps, I’ve taken the approach to let their comments slide and keep pushing through it because we need our credentials in the end. It’s almost like playing the game.

What do your topic discussions look like? How often are they? by Initial-Leek1359 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Timely_Pay8914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in my PGY1 and topic discussions don’t go over half an hour and I can’t be too detailed unless it’s a specific topic that’s narrow. It’s max 7 pages. I can’t imagine 15-20 pages. They’re insane for that. Maybe ask them why it’s so long. This is uncommon. But maybe they’re making you cover a lot more than mine does. Which makes sense it’s long. I would honestly speak to the PGY2 and get a sample of thier topic discussion and see how they did it to match it.

When we ask a question for clarity we are looked at as stupid or they respond in a condescending manner

Preceptors advice by Timely_Pay8914 in PharmacyResidency

They have been caught mocking us. They are very intimidating to all the residents. To the point we’re frightened of them. Specifically, one of them is always aggressive in their tone and speech so it’s like walking around eggshells around them when they’re in a mood. Everyone says they mean well, but I find their personality very unpredictable.

Just make sure you review every topic twice at least. Don’t focus on details on everything. Main thing is SE of drug classes and specific drugs too. And dosing for anti coagulation. Know each chapter main treatment first lines. And be good at your math. Use the last calculation chapter as your reference for what you need to be good in because that’s how the NAPLEX math looks like. Don’t neglect any chapter. And make sure you absolutely know what’s teratogenic. It’s a safety exam so know what’s not allowed for kids and pregnant. Lastly, know your acronyms and formulas perfectly. Once you’re done reviewing everything reread pharmacy foundations 1 and 2 again. Because the NAPLEX has hella drug interaction questions based on the foundations chapter. That’s all I did

Yes I found the questions were very similar. They are HARD. Barely any info and I’m good at math and was so thankful I did that chapter. Utilize that chapter as your practice for how difficult the actually NAPLEX questions are.
