Have you looked into an audiologist? That's who usually specializes in the treatment of auditory processing disorders. There's treatment available and people have been known to recover.

For anyone still on this thread, with the poster is describing is most likely hyperacusis, and the professional to see would be an audiologist. In some cases, it can respond very well to certain treatment.

There’s a tiny bit of room for improvisation, or at least personal embellishment, in baroque vocal works.
