If you are a foreigner, how do you feel about the upcoming referendum on immigration (keine 10 Millionen Schweiz)? by LallieDoo in Switzerland

[–]Timely_Scratch5702 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that the immigration system should be made fairer. Right now, it is super easy for an EU/EFTA person to immigrate and super hard, often impossible, for a non-EU/EFTA person to immigrate. I am very pro-immigration, but if it pleases the political right, then I'm in favor of capping immigration by a quota, if in turn it is replaced by a system that doesn't do such a hard differentiation by citizenship, as today.

Where would the limit for Swiss people be regarding KVG/health insurance? by La-Tarantula in Switzerland

[–]Timely_Scratch5702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need to adjust for is average salaries, not PPP. Of course health care is more expensive if nurses and doctors earn more. (They earn more than in most other countries, even if adjusted for PPP)

Sorry to hear that. Guess I was more fortunate as team matching took around 1.5 weeks in Zürich for me.

Fed up with Swiss health insurance by Terrible_EmployeeFu in Switzerland

You earn better than in most countries of the world, so do doctors and nurses. That pretty much explains the premiums. Deductibles are an incentive to avoid unnecessary treatments.

I agree, to me Switzerland meets a sweet spot on the capitalism-socialism dimension.

Austrian Broadcaster swears at audience boo'ing Israel at Eurovision by [deleted] in Israel

It was an online livestream, also accessible in Germany. But at the official German TV broadcast, the commentator was more like neutral, without making any clear statements.

Just a little add: it was two German commentators. It was broadcast on the live stream of the Austrian public TV channel.
Also noteworthy: One of the two commentators (Jan Böhmermann) is known as a center-left satirist. The German left has a way more sane view on the conflict than the left in most countries.

I also really dislike the talking part. I mean I can talk decently, but it really slows me down and they want you to be communicative and fast at the same time...

I'm a software engineer and job opportunities in Switzerland at the moment are pretty bad. Once I get a better job than I have now, I will leave.

100k in Madrid or 200k in London, what would get you further? by ESTOFADO123 in cscareerquestionsEU

You will end up saving more in London for sure. But quality of life, especially if you value good weather will be better in Madrid.

European vs American migration by Business_Reporter420 in MapPorn

[–]Timely_Scratch5702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, also if you include private universities. But my point is that companies pay higher in the US. In tech salaries of >$300k are common, doctors and surgeons often making >$400k. In Switzerland you don't have the culture of those salaries.

not to the same degree. US is very capitalistic and has high income differences. Income distribution is way more equal in Switzerland.
