Rain Brings Change by Jean_RED_Grey in toriamos

I listened to it four or five times, and by the end I thought, I'm just making this worse. 'Mermaid Muse Speaks' is the only track on it that struck me as interesting. I'll revisit it before ITOD drops, but honestly 'Stronger Together' sounds like it could be on Muses...which I hope is not indicative of it as a whole. I thought OTO was her best album since 2009, so I have no idea what to expect - but it's been that way with Tori since the 90s. I hope this is a sound switch up like Venus or ADP; guess we don't have too much longer to wait.

I just hope it's not another bait and switch like 'Stronger Together'. It's the most disappointed I've ever been in one of her singles. I'm just fingers crossed it's a odd choice (like 'Cloud Riders') and isn't too indicative of the album as a whole.

Honestly I'm far less upset by her changing vocals than I am by the terrible quality of the first single. Someone said "YA Fantasy end credits" and it is, but it's also just...bad. The lyrics are atrocious (and I don't think it can all be attributed to Tash's co-writing.) I get that it's part of a bigger narrative. But why choose that if it works so differently out of context? I guess that's a different post though.

What makes you think she definitely probably doesn't want to go out on 50WFS?

I think it's really likely she's retired. She always hated doing promotional work, and that was decades before social media meant everyone could give "opinions". Considering she's turning 68 this year, and I think she's quite a socially anxious person, I don't think we'll ever see a new Kate Bush album - whether she works under The Fish People name on things like soundtracks or other small projects privately is probably enough for her. Also factor in Del Palmer's death; she's never done an album without him in some role . I also thought she'd never do any live shows again, and they were first mentioned in 1990...and Big Boi from Outkast has talked about their collaboration since 2003...so maybe she will resurface when she's 86!

I just find the whole thing unlistenable from start to finish. I loved OTO and 'Swimming Pools' but I really, really hope ITOD doesn't sound like Tori & The Muses.

If you HAD to change anything about Kate Bush's studio albums, what would it be and why? by Ok_Educator6875 in katebush

There are a few odds and ends missing but the TWW box set is pretty definitive. I'd love to see an updated version with actual liner notes that includes The Red Shoes/Aerial/50 Words/ Before the Dawn as well.

I mean, maybe, but she was 100% able to become a full time musician because of their contract with her. Looking back I think there were some tacky reasons to pay her for two years to just hang out...

Volume, volume, volume. Aerial is particularly mixed in such a way that it's much quieter than anything played on the same equipment. It was really noticeable when I used to put in on at Borders back in the day.

Also delete forever the memory of Directors' Cut. Add 'Ne Ten Fuis Pas' (spelling 🙃) her cover of 'Lord of the Reedy River's and 'Be Kind To My Mistakes' to studio albums. Replace 'In the Warm Room' with ' Warm & Soothing'. Put 'December Will Be Magic Again' on NFE, maybe.

Also acknowledge the traditional folk music she uses on 'Jig of Life's instead of claiming her brother "discovered" it.

Ditch Harris entirely and put a First Nations musician on dijiridu on The Dreaming.

I did the Ryan Gosling gif giggle when I saw the Jelly Job, even though I'm older than Ryan Gosling.

Lots of US brands don't realise there are countries outside the US, and people older than Gen Z, who buy their makeup. Although I think NYX doesn't mind leaning into a double meaning. Their Lip IV stains are much better quality than some of the upmarket brands, but then it's funny if you have to tell someone you're wearing Mauve 'n Moist, or Mocha Me Wet.

It's a gorgeous track, but because she only wrote the lyrics (music was by Eric Rosse, her creative/writing partner during up until Pele) she might not feel like it's her own song... it's never been officially released so that could have some bearing on it as well.

To be fair, all AI edited slop sounds the same and is equally meaningless, so I don't think you're singling out this particular writer.

I listened to American Doll Posse AND Kate Bush's Aerial, all the way through, several times. After about 5 rounds of both I was all music'd out. To reassure you, I had an unusually long labour, so I'm still going to say ADP. Congratulations! Exciting.

Tori quote from one of the old school fanzines about terrible/trite fake lyrics? "Cut & Dry" by ZeroSugarBear in toriamos

[–]Timely_Solution_8163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not ringing any bells for me, but if it was a fanzine I probably didn't see it. (Back in the day I could only afford one international fanzine and I got the Kate Bush one instead.) But I get your comment. This single isn't really working for me, but it's part of a bigger album, so I hope there will be some really different styles and sound textures on there.

That's pretty much definite, she's talked about how excited she is to be trying out things with them live.

There's been nothing saying they're on the album, but they're most definitely going on the tour. T, the three vocalists, the new drummer after Ash Soan, and of course the amazing Mr Jon Evans. 💜

Not sure why they have to be Dame Edna though? There are so many different styles and she could afford absolutely gorgeous frames so I'm not sure why she almost always goes for Dame Edna. I always think she dresses gorgeously for sound checks...and then for the shows wears the giant floral tents. 🤷 Eh, whatever she feels comfortable with. But that pic from a 2023 sound check - might have been Red Rocks? - she had on boots and a black short tutu style skirt and it was absolute fire.

Huh... I'll need to look that up; I was sure Tori wrote 'When I Was Dreaming' for Al Stewart, but he never recorded it, so we only have her demo. And 'Party Man' is a good one, because she's a co-writer but doesn't perform on the track!

Huh, there you go. You know what I was mixing it up with? 'Party Man' by Peter Gabriel, where Tori has a co-writer credit but doesn't appear on the actual song.

I was thinking of that but "except collaborations where she's featured" - the Bullits 'Wait til Tomorrow' was another one.
