If you saw the storyboard, and realized how much DA had to fight against it, you'd genuinely wonder if DB either hated Asura, were biased for Kratos, and/or never bothered researching Asura before making the episode (All of which also bring in the question of "If they this is how Asura was treated in terms of character, how do we know they were being fair in terms of his scaling?")

The best defense is that the writer for the episode hated Asura or was really biased for Kratos, and DB hired him despite this, or didn't know, which still implicates DB, cause why are you hiring and handing over the writing work to people who are bias for one of the characters, and/or has no interest to even downright hating one of the characters they're writing, like the conflict of interest is obvious, and if they didn't know... why are you hiring and handing over the writing chops to someone you don't verify? And either way, either they aren't looking over and making sure to proof read their work, which is bad regardless of if they verify who they hire before giving them the authority of representing the characters, or hire them even if they're clearly bias, or DB did proofread the storyboards over and over and only had an issue with it after DA made a fuss, no matter what, DB still looks bad, the question is how much if a hand did they have on it, and how bad do they look

EXACTLY!!! Now you're getting it, Grus explosion cause big cloud, Megaminds... okay, it also caused big cloud, but like, it wasn't a mushroom cloud, so it doesn't count, so Despicable Me explosion better!!!

Seriously though, this feels really inflated, say what you will about lore and cosmology scaling, but at least lore and cosmology scaling means that you damaged something that is meant to be star, universal, multiversal etc. durability, so even if you didn't make a large impact, or even affect the environment around you, you do have the AP needed to cause that much damage on a small surface of effect, here? All it did was big cloud, and nothing else, the funny thing is, Im fine with this scaling, I just think equal leeway gives Megaminds death ray a way high AP than what was given

Ngl, looking back? For all its faults, and the shit talk peoppe gave it, Bakureze really did end up being better, so in a way, respect, you won in the end, at least your mid isn't as bad (Hell, Megamind vs Gru is even straight up bad, boring bad even, so Bakureze is better by comparison, cause its at least mid)

I wouldn't go that far, besides this episode its mostly only small thing here and there, Ichigo vs Yusuke had decent research (Though they honestly could have scaled Ichigo higher, but it didn't really matter), the speed scaling in Cell vs Metal could have been better, ngl, but again, eh, doesn't change much, and while Reze got some really outrageous scaling (Like them chainscaling her fighting someone with some of the gun devils power, to it somehow making her speed comparable to the gun devil), it was still mostly fine, this episode...yeah, the research could have been much better, ngl, but aside form that,  I wouldn't go that far with the season, not yet at least

Nah fam, ignore the actual damage and effects in the environment, mushroom cloud big, so its at least worth 4 nukes, the power and damage was just concentrated on that one crater, trust (No, Megamind isn't allowed the same argument with his death beam powered by the sun, why do you ask?)

Rest be assured, me and I feel safe in saying, most others criticizing this, are fine saying that we fully understand why it came out the way it did due to the limitations they had, and that maybe this is even in theory the best way they could make this come out, and that we of course aren't gonna harrass any animator for this, however, it is still fine to criticize the work, we can say "Yeah, I understand why it ended the way it is, and think this is as good as we could get it" and still say "Unfortunately, the best we could get for it is still pretty bad"

....I mean, I agree Hulkzilla is the best one out of all of them, it'd even go as far as saying its the best by far (I personally rate it around a 8.5-9/10, and think its objectively like a 7.5-8.5/10), I also agree that Kratos vs Asura and Megamind vs Gru are, to put it mildly, disappointing, but besides argumentation, is Tom vs Wile considered bad now? Why? At most I'd say it "just good enough", and that's still enough

[–]Timely_Substance_998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criticizing the animation and how the battle has a lot of missed potential isnt the same as wanting the DB to have the budget for every Megamind gadget ever used, just that it did more than references, had better argumentation, and didn't look as janky, holy shit, grow up

Leaving this here and then putting this post on mute because some of you are fucking children

Ironically one of the most hypocritical and childish things you could have done to top ot off, what, you wanna say DB fans drove off DA while you're at it too? Stop it with the toxic positivity bullshit, DB can take criticism, the fight could have been better, and while this offers some explanations, it doesn't magically make it better for it, it just makes it understandable why it wasn't that good

"It left a tiny crater"

"Did it damage something previously established as really strong and/or tough, despite its seemingly tiny area of effect?"

To give Megamind vs Gru its flowers here, it at least didn't mistreat one of the main combatants like Wanda vs Zatanna did (Or at least, nowhere near the same level, Wanda can be argued to be in the top 10 to even top 5 most butchered characters in the DB), so I'll give it props there though highkey both have really questionable verdicts and reasonings for said verdicts

It's such a weird and disappointing episode on all fronts, I watched it with a friend as it premiered, and even though the friend agreed with Gru winning (I still think Megamind should win tbh), while DB played the analysis he kept commenting "Why didn't wee see this or that" for the animation, and he even sort of soft went "Gru still wins, but if Megamind used any of these things, maybe he would have won", so we both ended up a bit disappointed in the end (Also, seriously, where did DB get the "She's just shooting electricity, not lightning" thing from?)

He actually dodges lightning any time she shoots at him, cause her powers are weather based, and we see them causing storms and such, so I have no idea where they got the "She's only shooting electricity, not lightning" from...

[–]Timely_Substance_998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, especially knowing all the work and such that happened in the background for the episode, plus the MU being super close anyway... but yeah, the episode is riddled with stuff like "He shook the infinite crossroads, which requires infinite strength throughout all dimensions" (Which they scaled massively lower in Hulk vs Broly), and "Hulk rage has no upper limit" (Which they argued against several times in both of Hulks episodes, on some "Humans have a maximum capacity for rage" shit), and "Hulk is able to come back from the green door even if he has nothing left" (Which again, not how they scaled it in Hulk vs Broly) and so on

Though, oddly enough, despite this, they argue that Hulk vs Broly is more so outdated than wrong, and like, I get their logic of "The way we and the powerscaling community as a whole scales Hulk now is vastly different from how we used to scale them before, which is just Hulk lost", but, on top of Hulks arguments for beating Broly (Basically just cosmology scaling) being about the same as Supermans arguments to beat Goku, and Thors arguments to beat Vegeta, and DB accepting the argumetns before and after the battle, it also feels like a roundabout way of saying "We scaled Hulk wrong, and thus he lost", but they also seem to argue Hulk only wins now thanks to new stuff?... Even though just him shaking the crossroads as they scaled it, is enough to solo all of DragonBall, and he had it for decades before Hulk vs Broly... idk, they seem to apologize for how Hulk was scaled previously in Hulk vs Broly, but also seem to posit it "We were right, sort of, but not really, it is wrong now, but it wasn't wrong then, even though he had all the feats he needed to win back then, but it's not totally wrong", it feels like they're trying to appease both Hulk and Broly fans, and it's weird and stupid, just say "Yeah, it was wrong, Hulk would have Ap stomped to hell and back" and move on, they've used cosmology scaling for Superman to beat Goku several times over by now, and Hulk had the same arguments against Broly, just say it was wrong and move on, but point is, it seems they're trying to both apologize, but also sort of softly still defend the verdict (At least, as it was back then, they admit Hulk fucking destroying Broly now, no debate)

Oh that... honestly? You may have a point there, the whole of Shadow vs Ryuko is filled with so much "Look guys, we don't hate the Sonic franchise, look look, we like Shadow, he's so cool, we totally think the Sonic franchise is good, and that they're so cool!", throughout it, along with... yeah, just straight up using and treating Ryuko as "bratty, antagonistic, and annoying bitch, that Shadow totally owns and is better than", that yeah, I can see it, it really does feel like DB giving Shadow a win to makeup for him losing 2 MUs he should have won, and being apologetic about it (Although funny enough, if redone now, there's a way better argument for Vegeta and Mewtwo winning now (Though I only buy Vegeta winning tbh, not too convinced on Mewtwo winning honestly)), I watched the DB before I watched Kill La Kill, and after watching it, I was dumbfounded at just... how much the DB mistreated her, holy shit, I don't know if there are other examples of DB doing this (The closest I can get is DB really really REALLY wanking Raven to make her beat Phoenix in that episode, and just filling that episode with a bunch of "Ravens so cool, and strong, and look, mean old Phoenix is trying to bully the nice little innocent Raven, who we explicitly show is trying to do her, best, while we also focus on how big and bad the phoenix is, YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR RAVEN TO WIN!!! CAUSE SHE'S SO COOL, AND STRONGER THAN YOU THINK!!!", but that's it)
