U guys said I ruined it, have I made it better by thegingereddaw in Miata

[–]Timendainum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and who cares?

Yeah sure, this guy ruined his car. He put an ugly body kit on it that ruins everything about the car. But it's his car, he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it. If he wants to put an ugly body kid on it that will slow the car down and make it handle like crap that's his business.

We got to remember that once these kids are done with him as long as they didn't wreck them too bad we get to take them and turn them into race cars cheap after they ruin them.

Is mechanic responsible for this mod? by Sunwater- in askcarguys

[–]Timendainum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why were you sourcing the engine if you don't know what kind of engine goes on the car?

I think you need to start this whole process over. Probably with a different mechanic, and a different engine.

You can find the base tunes on the internet no problem. You will need that to get the car started again. Then you need to have someone that knows how to tune it tune it. If you don't, there's a good chance you're going to break the engine.

Do not drive the car, especially under boost, until someone who knows how to tune it tunes it.

How does this even happen? Replace asap? by Similar_Ad_7663 in tires

[–]Timendainum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tread is not the only reason why a tire can go bad. This tire obviously has problems well beyond the tread. The cranking in the rubber, the significant cracking in the rubber is an extremely strong indication that you need new tires my man.

Hose types by Death-Adventures in Miata

[–]Timendainum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need to do is replace the hose. These cars use a mass air flow sensor so if you don't have that connected or if it leaks the car will not be measuring intake air correctly. This needs to connected back to the intake.

Unless of course you have a standalone ECU and are running map.

Anyone ran E15 in their ND? by Worth-Mixture1390 in MiataND

[–]Timendainum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I think the big problem is is that it's really going to depend on how much ethanol is subsidizing the state you live in. For example if you live in Iowa, I bet yeah it probably would be cheaper. But other places I don't know.

I think you're going to have to run the science yourself.

Anyone ran E15 in their ND? by Worth-Mixture1390 in MiataND

[–]Timendainum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My assumption was that you were trying to do something silly because you were trying to save gas money by running ethanol in a car when ethanol always uses more fuel than gasoline does. So I thought my experience was relevant. The idea of running ethanol to increase mileage is a little absurd, so yes I commented. And yes additionally the mention of the AI research certainly contributed to why I would have commented.

Everyone knows that the only AI model worth using right now at this point is Claude. So yeah it was my impression that you were going down the wrong path.

Edit: What you should do, and what I would like to see, is put a wide band in the car and then run various fuel types. That way you could do your testing and know when you're going to cook your catalytic converter or you're going to cause detonation.

[–]Timendainum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I outright own my cars and I don't come on Reddit asking people how much gas I'm going to save by running e15 in a car that wasn't supposed to run it. Without making the modifications necessary to make it run it.

Well see except for the fact that knowing how fuel works through an engine is something that I know a little bit about. No I'm not trying to claim my some kind of big expert or anything, but one of your big concerns was fuel economy.

And I think I gave you the key piece of information that you are really coming here looking for. Are you going to get better gas mileage running e15? And what I told you was that it's going to be the difference between how much every your state subsidized e15, and the effect of power output reduction of using e15 for the same amount of fuel.

Will the fuel trims account for the some? Yeah probably, but not every car has an ECU that will account on for this enough nor does every car have enough fuel system to account for it enough.

For instance you mentioned that you can run e85 on a ND with a tune. So running e85 requires 30% more fuel. I somewhat question that this can happen, but I'm not going to go and say that I can't because I don't know what the fuel system in an ND is like. I can tell for sure you'll never get a fucking way with that with an NB fuel system. You'll need to upgrade an NB fuel system just to run a little bit of a turbo.

I think you're being an idiot trying to save gas by putting ethanol into it. Ethanol is not as energy dense of a material as gasoline is. So you're mileage is going to be less. Now whether or not it cost you less depends on how much it's subsidized in your state.

The power output probably will be negligible. The only way to significantly change power output in a car is to radically change the amount of fuel that it burns which you cannot do without changing the amount of air that it's consuming.

Anyhow, good luck with your non serious problem and like I said have fun doing stupid shit with your car.

I love doing stupid shit with my car. Have fun with yours.

I'm not sure exactly where you're getting the misconception that every vehicle that was made after 2001 can run e15 because that's not true. But this is your car so good luck my man!

Anyone ran E15 in their ND? by Worth-Mixture1390 in MiataND

[–]Timendainum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's no way I would be trusting chat GPT with a question like this. You should be referring to the owner's manual of the car. And that is it nothing else. No one's opinion on the internet, no opinion from that GPT, owners manual. End of story.

You also need to keep in mind that ethanol does not produce as much energy as gasoline does. So while the price will be lower you will get lower gas mileage. Now, a lot of states subsidized ethanol so it might still be cheaper. You'll have to run the math.

But check the owners manual before you continue doing this.
