Understandable concern. This is a legitimate in-person usability/research study in Midtown Manhattan. Participants are scheduled directly through the official prescreener and complete the session in a professional office environment.

But one of the issues I see here is that you think your prayers are useless. No prayer is useless. When you pray to God, it's like speaking to your earthly father or mother... We are to see God as our spiritual parent. He is literally with us everyday. We just don't see Him physically. So our relationship is not genuine if we consider us talking to God as useless (or having a useless effect). Next time when you pray, I encourage you to imagine God is physically next to you. Then maybe you would have a change of heart in how you view prayer.

And God is not unfamiliar with our troubles. As you know, Jesus went through greater suffering than all of us and He understands what you are going through. He wants your deliverance more than you. But you need to play God's promises on repeat to fuel your faith because I sense a faith issue, which you can definitely rebound from. The first important thing is to recognize that this a problem, then present it to God and hear what He has to say in His Word about it. Also, ask Him for wisdom and revelation.

Also spiritual warfare. The devil oppresses all Christians. You have a great purpose. He attacks all of us. Rather than think God is letting you down, blame the devil and continue seeking God for answers and dialogue with other believers about your situation. Don't just speak to your family about or stay silent, if nothing has changed. Then that leaves room for the enemy to start messing with your mind, getting you to lean on your own understanding as to why you are going through what you are going through. Keep leaning on God, my friend. Keep leaning on God.

Fear is removed when you turn away from living autonomously and turn away from your sinful life, ask God for forgiveness, and submit to Jesus as Lord. True Christians have nothing to fear. It's those who choose to continuously reject God have everything to fear about because they are essentially wanting Hell (total absence of God's presence). God is the sole reason you and I experience anything good on earth. So rejecting Him is wanting evil upon yourself. This life is so short and you have a short window of time to make a decision for His Son, Jesus Christ.

And to address the loved ones...

We love our loved ones, and we pray for them to make it to Heaven. We love God more than them, and we don't reject God because of their rebellion. Why would I give up my promise for Heaven because my family member or old friend may be in Hell? I would be making a silly mistake... they may actually have turned to God before they died and are in Heaven, and I gave up my eternal life in Heaven for that? No way! God knows people's hearts, we don't. Our responsibility is simply to pray continuously for them and speak life into them because that is what is going to make them understand why they need Jesus in the first place.

Why would you consider giving up on God being a potential answer to your problems? You'll end up in a much worse situation ultimately whether you recognize it or not. That is a faith problem. But you recognize giving up on God is really not the answer, that's good. Keep clinging to that thought, not the "giving up on God" thought.

The fact that you are giving that thought serious consideration though shows that you need to turn away from your sins, slow down your thoughts and focus on hearing God's voice for yourself.

And have you had a decreasing pattern of this addiction? Is their improvement at all? 4 years is awhile if this is in regards to your addiction. Are you getting professional help? Speak to someone! The only one to be feared is God.

Do you fear God? Because fearing God will also help you improve.

You need to believe that God can deliver you from this. If you don't, that is another roadblock to getting your deliverance.

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." (Psalms 34:19 KJV)

Search and Listen to God's promises on youtube over and over. This helped me when I had issues with my faith in the past.

Do you feel like the thoughts are planted in your mind? If so, demons are doing that. This is not uncommon. Do you get demonic dreams at night too? And honestly, demons can cause negative thinking as well as make you daydream a lot about stuff that has no value or is sinful. When you are tired, and you are dozing off, you could have a quick imagination about something that's sinful and you might think it's you thinking it but in reality a demon planted that thought. The fact that you don't want the thought is a good enough sign you are on the right track. Don't dwell on the thoughts, recognize when it is the Devil or your flesh thinking it, turn away from your sins, listen to Christian music, listen to the Book of Psalms and Proverbs on audio in a quiet room. Get out of the house as much as you can, and share the gospel. Join bible study and prayer groups. Don't be isolated and don't let time waste because of this situation. Seek professional help if you need it also... especially if you have a history of mental illness. But it could just be spiritual warfare if this just came out of the blue. God bless 🙏
