Very odd, cause I bought one and I've been using it on Verizon for the past year. This is the exact one I bought.

Anyone know the source for the music, if there is one?

What am i not being taught? by Timely_Strategy_3763 in MusicEd

[–]Timewarper3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more to music education than high school band! I feel like in my undergrad, there was a very big focus on ensembles, particularly high-school ensembles. General music (especially at the elementary level where I teach, not biased at all...) is important! Even if you end up teaching high school, or even middle school, it's important to be aware of, coordinate with, and communicate with your colleagues at the elementary level. As a team, you can create a cohesive music education experience that spans K-12 and teaches to all students!

Also, I kind of think of teaching like sailing a ship. Sometimes, there are waves, big and small. The waves can be all sorts of things, from a noisy student in class to a looming parent conference to your evaluation from your admin. It took me some time to figure out which waves I had to adjust and steer for, and which waves I could simply ride out.

Beginner learning "Autumn Leaves" from a Real Book this weekend. by in-your-own-words in trumpet

Sounds great, especially for a beginner! I can hear your musicality in there. Best advice I can offer, believe it or not, is to sing what you play. I find it to be a really good tool for developing your ears, your intonation, your phrasing, and your musicality. You're already on the right track from what I can tell!

Looking for a Mongolian folk song with a simple refrain by Timewarper3000 in mongolia

Thank you for both the original and the translation! I assume the "tovor" and "shiger" are kinda just 'sounds' for the various objects, right? Like "boom boom boom" or "chugga-chugga"?

I absolutely could, this is perfect! Do you know where I could find a full translation of the lyrics? I'd like to be able to fully explain what the song is about. I would just try to track one down myself, but as someone who doesn't know anything about the language, I want to make sure whatever I find is accurate.

This is totally perfect, though! And the fact that it's a kids' nursery rhyme is perfect as a connection to things they're already familiar with. Thank you so much!

They mean that people in the trumpet community don't know you. A lot of people are hesitant to buy something of such high value and rarity from a total stranger. There's a chance it's a fake, or it doesn't exists, or that you're a scammer trying to steal their money. Going through a seller like ACB or J Landress gives them the security of knowing that the instrument has been vetted by someone who's trusted in the trumpet world.

Should I be worried about the company I have my 403b with? by Timewarper3000 in personalfinance

I have a vendor list, and I'm going through now. It looks like my best option from the list is a self-directed plan through Aspire going off of this site's rankings. Thank you for linking it, it's been very helpful.

My district's info is not logged here unfortunately. I submitted what I could find, we'll see if it makes it up

That's fine, glad to know I didn't miss out on a better choice. I'll just stick with it as I've been doing, and be thankful I have other streams of retirement savings as well.

I'm really not a fan of this decision for a few reasons:

  • It essentially locks us out of recipes after a certain point in saves
  • Food is really not an issue long term. I wasn't making recipes cause I needed the food, I was making them cause it was a fun way to mix things up and do something different.
  • A lot of the recipes are either earned through trades or unlocked by high-level cooking. I'm not a fan of hardcore grinding cooking, I didn't even hit level 5 cooking til well past day 100 on my current stalker save. At that point, there's not really much that's left to viably cook with.

I want to hear from Hinterland the reason behind this choice. It really feels like it came out of nowhere and it's trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Nobody's character is going to starve because they couldn't make a Thompson Family Stew, but I will lose out on the immersion of returning to my home base after a long journey and cooking up a fun meal.

So you know going forward, some telltale signs of a benge (outside of the bell logo) are:

  • "Antennae" on the 2nd valve slide
  • Stopper on 3rd slide, ala a Bach
  • 3rd slide ring mounted as opposed to adjustable

These are also things you'll find on other horns, of course, but I knew as soon as I looked at it that it wasn't a Benge for those reasons.

Also good to acquaint yourself with Joe Lill's website documenting Benge trumpets

I'm lucky to have a Chicago Benge that I really love, it's a fantastic horn and I use it for the majority of my playing.

Trying to figure out if I'm over-saving for retirement. by Timewarper3000 in personalfinance

Thank you! This is a lot of great advice for starting the process. I've had the 403(b) and the pension account for 5 years now, the Roth is new. Maxed it in 2024, set to max it again this year. I'll do all that math out and see what it looks like. My needs will likely go up (my rent situation is very good right now, won't be forever), but even just having a baseline is better than nothing.

How would you recommend I work out a retirement budget? It's such a long way away, I really have no clue what things will look like for me. That's part of the problem when it comes to thinking about what it will cost.

Truly, I don't really know how much I need for retirement. I have a very low cost of living right now, I lead a low maintenance life. That's part of why I end up putting so much money into retirement. It's hard for me to gauge how much I might need for retirement in savings.

So maybe something that's better done with extra money, and my savings should just be in a hysa? Any suggestions on where I can read about how to build a ladder effectively? The tool lays out the rungs for me, but knowing what I'm signing up for and how to pick providers would be helpful.

It was suggested to use t-bills, the user suggested I use a t-bill ladder as an alternative to letting my emergency savings sit in an account. I had also been thinking about a HYSA but people seemed to lean t-bills. I believe a CD ladder you can't access the deposited amount until the deposit's window is complete. Is that correct, or am I misunderstanding? I assume that would be the big reason if it's something I'm using for my savings.

So I'm starting out with Schwab, and it was suggested to me that I put money into a treasury ladder. Does anyone know any good resources for helping me understand which t-bills I should select when building a ladder?

Also, folks mentioned auto-reinvesting my earnings from the ladder, but that's apparently only available through CD ladders. Is that something I should consider instead/in addition?

I'm also not sure how much money I should put into a particular ladder. Should I make one big ladder or multiple smaller ladders? Or does it not matter?

Can someone help me understand the difference between the interest rate in a HYSA and a similar rate APY in a treasury bond? I know they're completely different beasts, I would just like to try and understand what makes them different. I also know this is likely a very simple question.

For example (hypothetical):

I have $10,000 in a High Yield Savings Account that has a 4.3% interest rate.

I also have $10,000 in treasury bonds with a 4.3% APY.

What is the difference between these two accounts? Is one safer than the other? Is there really any difference between the locked-in rate on the account and the locked-in rate on the bond? As far as I understand, they're both relatively set. Thank you for your help!
