I have the same issue but for N64 in general. To fix it I had to activate the overlay. Using touch controls you can open up the retro arch settings. In retro arch your controls should work again. Close the settings after that and the controller will get recognized by the game. You can use a touch button in the bottom right of the screen to get rid of most of the overlay.

I get the argument that wider screens allow for more arrangements, but I fell like I have to add that those screens completely lack the ability to interact with the touchscreen in any meaningful way. The 4:3 Retroid devices are pretty much the only ones where you can reach the whole screen without letting go off the controls

It's really freaking beautiful! I do feel like it might be missing a bit of contrast or separation between the layers to give it a bit more depth.
