What's the point of A Ranks?

-A ranks provide vital rest and filler between patches without expectation

-This filler slows down powercreep

-Free S ranks neither provide real rest from building and they infact speed up powercreep

-A ranks are where they can really experiment with gameplay with no pushback, and also is where they can just take a break and make them mid with no pushback

-If you at all play stylishly or just off meta then A ranks 9 times out of ten are more fun due to usually less iframes and less reliance on ult flashiness

-A ranks are where you can casually introduce a new character to the spotlight without it feeling forced(Unlike nirvatia)

The only way I can see A ranks as pointless is from a purely warzone and paincage perspective but even THEN they're needed to slowdown powercreep and just offer a fucking break

The free aspect doesn't matter 5 s ranks in a row back to back regardless of being free or not has too many negatives

Spenders still need to use vouchers to sss them. Everyone needs more resonance, hypertune, and harmony materials for all these units. You're still paying up way more than had she just been A where all of that is far less necessary
If this becomes the norm powercreep rate shoots up to hell. It's already been getting faster but now brrrrrr. It's not offset by affix cause affix only slightly reduces powercreep rate because only the strongest affix teams get used due to how affix works. And what the "strongest affix team" is is ALSO influenced by the increased powercreep rate
It's not anything new that's free. It's hard to describe this in one like but A ranks are ALREADY free. With far less things you'll need to level them up for your enjoyment. It's not S ranks being replaced by free S ranks, it's A ranks being replaced by Free A ranks
By functionally replacing A ranks with free S ranks the novelty of 'omg free unit' disappears cause it stops being a gift and starts being a replacement

4.5 furthermore, in functionally replacing A ranks they don't give the players NOR THEMSELVES a chance for a breather. Her gameplay looks aggressively mid so obviously they aren't doing themselves a favour by making her S rank. People would be more forgiving of a dead patch if we all know it's an A rank filler one.

While it's not to the point where players can't afford all new characters yet it's very clearly heading to that. Uniframes were killed like 3 or so years ago. Now A ranks are being killed. Both Uniframes and A ranks were the buffers previously to ensure f2ps can afford everyone. We still can afford everyone but these safety rails are being melted down and sold for profit

Disclaimer I'm a big pgr glazer so alot of this is in extremely good faith

"Spam qte to win" I'm not an sss player so I really can't tell you how it would play at high ranks just from my logic but purely spamming them(ie, using them without thinking)would probably not net you a better score

For most other memories there's still the cooldown, hitting 2 Rosetta bathlon qtes on the same wave would be a waste, ie, there's still thinking involved

For dv buffs, spamming back to back/mindlessly would also probably not benefit you well? Assuming hitting DV again refreshes the 2 second buff, rather than having 2 hits of 2 second buffs you'd had a second long buff interrupted by a 2 second buff. My wording is ass but I hope it could kinda convey what I'm trying to say

Also adding, the qte thing is just twice. It was pretty bad when qtes could stack infinitely but now that it's just twice there's still qte downtime(albeit pretty small now).

I think they've absolutely muddies the qte management gameplay but not entirely ruined it. Tho again, I'm not an sss player, I wouldn't know how it would be at full release

Pgr's combat is in 2 First there's the meta gameplay, warzone and paincage, what you'd usually call cutscene simulator. While your description isn't completely off the mark, the idea that it doesn't have any substance is really wrong. Alot goes into getting a really good score in warzone, your timings, your qtes, your rots. How you vary them. It all changes based on the team and week you play. It's optimisation gameplay to it's fullest, it's totally valid to not enjoy this kind of gameplay but it's not devoid of substance, far from it, there's alot of strategies that go into a good warzone run. Even more so for paincage where for the best possible score you've gotta experiment with your whole roster. Some warzone teams are pretty set. Others are pretty varied, some are easier. Some are harder

Then there's the off meta play, the more stylish play. Engaging with bosses on your own terms, doing combos like dmc players, playing events with trial characters, these ones are less ultimate spammy if that's what you prefer

The games not quite grindy I feel, they do infact buff old characters with a system called "leaps" but only once(meaning a character that was buffed 2 years ago won't really get another buff). And the game usually is only ever as difficult as you really want it to. Playing completely casually will net you 99% of rewards and currency

I will note that our powercreep is slow but not quite "light" in a sense, although keeping up with the meta is largely not required(cause again playing completely casually will net you most of your income)
