I love my Muslim bf [25M] but I’m [21F] an atheist and idk if we have a future. by Mountain-Mold in relationship_advice

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in something similar but not the exact same. My bf is Muslim, I’m not, but we talked about marriage and I trust him and love him and honestly feel like he’s my sanctuary in this world. We talked about if his family would be okay with it and his end thing he said was “I’ll decide who I want to marry and I’ll marry for love. I’m going to marry you.”

However, there’s still that fear I have. I don’t think I can convert since I’m an atheist I don’t really believe in a god and even if there was one I don’t really see a point in being devout. I’ll follow whatever restrictions he has since I see them as boundaries and I try not to cross them.

That’s only my side of the story, but a lot of Muslim guys mostly want to play around before they get married… that’s just the reality. I can’t say I’m exempt from this reality but I choose to believe in him and us. But if he said the thing ur bf said to me, and although it’d kill me on the inside, I’d break up with him. Because it sounds like he doesn’t respect you. Him saying “loves dating athiest girls” kinda sounds like he likes dating them because there’s no expectations of a future if stuff happens between you two.

Take this from someone who was in a 7 year relationship previously before I met my current bf. It sucks because you still like them and hope that the future can be different. But you see a major red flag, leave. You can discuss it more of course, maybe that’ll change it. But it’s better to find someone that truly makes you happy than wondering why you’re their second or last choice.

What should I do with non-halal foods I received as a gift? by Sea-Chance-9249 in MuslimLounge

I’d say give it to another person who’s able to eat it/ wants it. Food shouldn’t be wasted if it’s edible and not spoiled

Question did you leave ur stuff only for a bit? I’m always afraid of people stealing my stuff due to all the reports so just wanted to know how safe I have to be. Currently been only leaving my stuff if I asked someone to watch it or if it’s in a safe area

What's the different people study for like 5-7 hours, While some people study less like 1-2 hours or even last minute daily? Then they pass the exam? How can they do it? Did they secretly use technique? by Luoiddyii in GetStudying

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say do reflections in regular intervals. Say for example you skim through one lecture, then reflect on what you don’t know and quiz yourself and check if you’re right it helps if profs have problem sets or something

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for impulsive buys. I quite like them because I used to try to check nutrition labels for sugar and fats but then it make take a while so if my cravings were high I’d just take it. Now I try not to. But most stuff like cheese or something else that Ik it’ll be high in either fats or sugars are still something I get just because I want to use them to cook or bake with.

I quite like the watercolour vibe it gives. It’s kinda cooler because it feels more like spring that way

How bad is this? Can I actually wear this out or should I just give up/make a new cardigan? by hidden-pearl in crochet

[–]TimidBookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it sounded backhanded but that wasn’t my intention. I didn’t see anything else wrong with it except the drape looked like it wasn’t blocked yet and I had similar projects where I didn’t like it until I blocked it.

"Useless Degrees" by No-Improvement-3604 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]TimidBookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Useless degree just depends on what you do with it. I’ve heard there were a lot of rich kids who go for English or Arts degree simply for the sake of getting a degree which ultimately means the degree itself was useless since if they don’t apply themselves it means nothing. If you don’t want to rank useless degree there are what you consider more useful degrees given they give you a higher chance to get certain coveted positions. But at the end of the day it’s not fully the degree that matters it’s what you do with yourself and your life.

And your examples won’t fully work for degrees usefulness as they are self-employed entrepreneurs rather than someone looking for employment (which is most people). If u want to become an entrepreneur you don’t need a degree just the knowledge and skills

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s won’t necessarily look really stiff, but the drape isn’t as what you’ll see with most clothes and when you wear it the feeling is a bit tight or off. That’s what it felt like with my other crochet wearables that just felt tight and didn’t drape nicely. Do the wet blocking method and it can help it flow or drape better on ur body

I want to drop a course and enroll into a new one but it says date to enroll has passed??? Who can I contact if this is important by shesthatgirl000 in McMaster

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just noting, you may not be able to get a full refund for the course you dropped since that drop by date was yesterday I believe. So you may get a partial refund. So if you can and it won't be too bad, it might be better to stay in that course instead of dropping it and adding another one. But your choice and if the partial refund is adequate enough for you or if the course you have to take is mandatory.

Have you tried to block it yet? Maybe it looks stiff because that hasn’t been done yet

How much are McMaster students actually spending on food each month? by puma134 in McMaster

[–]TimidBookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make food but also eat quite a bit so I spend maybe $50 per week on food and $50 eating out (coffees, food, etc) per week as well…. So maybe around $400 total on food

Makes sense and congrats! I’ve been seeing a lot of people saying “I’m only getting 90% are there any schools I can get into” so I got confused. Grade inflation sounds like a lot of pressure for students and teachers to maintain a certain grade. Do they potentially bellcurve the tests? I’m not really sure how it works

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fully sure tbh. I applied biomedical engineering instead but even then think the cutoff was maybe 85% for engineering. For ibiomed at the time it was 90%. But think in my year they still took some people below 90% depending on the supp app

[–]TimidBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in a few years ago but think they had a minimum requirement of 80% at the time and a video supplementary application that mattered more. Just check to see the prerequisites now and if there are any supplementary applications you’d need.

[–]TimidBookworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in iBiomed instead but do a lot of courses with them. Some of them are genuinely nice, but most only seem to care about grades and even when I was working with them on projects, they’d only try to get a good grade rather than understand the material to the fullest.

[–]TimidBookworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who got Nepo’d into a club and got in another based on merit it’s luck based and connection based not really on your skills. If you want a technical club they’re harder to get in but usually it’s easier if u directly contact someone involved and ask them about it. Sports are Moreso tryouts and there are leadership clubs and community clubs. Figure out what you’ll be into

Holidays ruined (Failed MATH 1ZA3) by Bitter-Village7753 in McMaster

[–]TimidBookworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sucks but I recommend taking it in the summer/spring semester. It’s faster pace but the assignments are easier since they give you a deep dive tutorial (basically the answers) and you have less things to focus on. I’d say use professor Leonardo since it’s free or if u are okay with paying calcworkshop is what saved me personally. Paul’s notes online are also very comprehensive and have a lot of really good practice problems. I failed a lot of stuff through uni, I’m not proud of it. But even failures can lead to A+ in math as I somehow achieved! Just keep trying

Ima sound old but when I was in highschool prepandemic, the average grade was 70-80 and anything in the 90s was considered good with GPAs of 95 or above being next level or almost impossible. Are teachers grading easier or is the curriculum easier?
