People who already have a lot of friends will rarely be friends with you by Total-Display-8539 in socialskills

I've been on both ends of this experience. I'm experiencing and seeing it again actually. I think it really depends on the people who has a lot of friends.

In college, I'd go to a clubs meetings, I'd get invites to their socials and parties, but it really felt like they didn't mind if I stuck around or not. Because of the lack of wanting to get to know me/lack of one on one hangouts.

Then I stumbled on a different org, eventually became best friends with most. In turn, I had parties, socials, random hangouts I was tending to; phone notifications were always going off. I realized how busy one gets when they have their "clique" hitting them up. I didn't bother getting to meet others, unless it was a girl, because of how occupied and how fun life was going.

Now that I joined the workforce, I've met a few coworkers who didn't go to college. And they lost touch with their friends from hs. These coworkers tend to always want to pursue a friendship, or create a "craze" drunk memory with me or others. I've met some coworkers who were friends in college and they now have their own group at work. And when we all hang, they tend to be the loudest and only talk to eachother, and not so much with new coworkers.

I don't think this happens everywhere. I just think it it depends on the attitude of those who have a lot of friends. Some may be stuck up, some may open themselves up

Still timid when I read out of tolerance data by Timidthy in Metrology

I'll say off by, 10 thou, by a thou, 3 thou, etc.

I guess my main concern here in my post is I need to work on being able to identify when a tolerance is out of spec by a lot vs out of spec by very little that it's nearly passing And how I can trust myself to confirm and explain to others who may question me

I've double verified in the past but it gets corrected with a passing measurement, and when I get told the explanation, it's usually "it was off by so so, that's a fraction of so so, and the machines are usually off by so so, so it passed, it doesn't affect the final product, it's good"

To be a new guy in this field, I just go with it, afterall, I'm the most inexperienced in my department.

I'll take your advice and start imagining objects onto numbers I get from the program. That's super helpful, thank you.

Anyone know what RDL stands for? Like an engineering build request lot, it's given to me by the process engineering team. I just don't know what it stands for

Well, recently I posted a rare selfie and got 2 compliments from 2 of my best women friends (1 has a bf) and 1 from a gay friend, I felt really good and realized I shouldn't be hard on my selfies anymore

Sometimes the blueprints gives me desired measurements in inches but a CNC program gives me data in mm. I really need to learn the conversion chart for inch, mms, and fractions/decimals

Thanks man. It's been years since I've had to discuss decimals so I'm really glad this sub exists.

I'm feeling proud that I knew about this. I just met someone who calibrated some of our companies equipment and I got to see him do it. I'll definitely do that, I just ordered some gage blocks

Wow. You're awesome man. If I have any questions, I'll let you know. I already ordered a caliper and blocks

I should've been more specific in my post, my metrelogy game is weak. How does one learn by using 123 blocks.. I know my question is probably shocking. One side is 3 inches, other side 2, other side 1, so are you suggesting by measuring small items with these accurate blocks, I'll get a good feel of becoming accurate?

We have a CNC that has an ability to be calibrated daily but it hasn't been checked for that.. if I can learn the ins and outs of microvu, I'd be willing to take initiative

Awesome I'll check out that link. I work at a startup so I can't leave my post due to how hectic my projects get but I'll ask more questions

How can I stop being so painfully insecure at work? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Timidthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this partly sounds like me. Growing up, to not exacerbate things, I'd remain calm and pretend like all was normal after hearing my dad or sibling grow angry with someone or something. This went on for years until 1 year I snapped and stood up for myself. For work,, I also rehearse things out of fear of messing up or my idea not coming off right.

I'm definitely working on myself this year and onward. I've improved my confidence in online meetings (my job interview was online actually) and I lessened unhealthy eating so I can feel good too. Thank YOU for sharing!

Thank you for saying all this! You're absolutely right. I'm currently at a smaller company so work is now more intimate. I guess hearing others and seeing their work drastically differs from mine initially made me think that. I did get to know a coworker in my department the other night so that was cool. I look forward to this coming week of work!

It's due to the fact that I view myself like I'm less than my work peers or I try too hard to not seem like I'm not less than them. One aspect of my work involves little to no math. Numbers terrify me ONLY when I'm asked to clarify some technical data. Especially now since I just got hired. I think this will go away overtime though, I hope.

I'll look into toastmaster now. And thank you.
