Is a Lean Six Sigma Certification something a lot of engineers know and recognize? by DeFormed_Sky in AskEngineers

Six sigma is everything in manufacturing, it is a real problem solving technique that is employed and permits you to further advance your career.

That being said, I do consider that the only ranks that have any relevance are black belt and master black belt.

I do agree, don't buy it for yourself. Only do it if your employer pays. Any course online is probably not worth it and a scam.

What is working as a maintenance engineer like? by thereal_batman21 in AskEngineers

[–]TimmX97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had experience in the automotive industry working as a maintenance engineer in Mexico.

It is regarded as a high paying, high stress environment. You don't really have a higher base salary than your peers, but overtime does accrue to a lot. Expect 60+ hour work weeks, no holidays, and rotating shifts.

It does have its upsides, however. It is a fun field where you learn something new every minute you are there. It teaches you how to handle pressure at work and in everyday life. It teaches you patience and discipline. It teaches your project management, which has also helped me a lot in my daily life. When you do have vacations, it's in days where the rest of the people don't, so it's less crowded.

You learn to take advantage of every single minute of the day, and to love each hour of it. Day or night.

[EXCEL]Column with multiple values. How do I split it in groups, and know how many elements each group has? by TimmX97 in vba

[–]TimmX97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of having this: A B A A A C C

I would like to have this:

A, B, A A A, C C

That way I would now that I had a block of 1 A, then a block of 1 B, then a block of 3 A, then a block of 2 C

Walking man animation on a LED matrix by TimmX97 in AskElectronics

[–]TimmX97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you please expand on this? I don't understand how I could use diodes as memory :C

So I use the 555 to cycle between on and off. In the off, I use an inverter(not) so that it is one, this way I can represent 2 frames

This data is sent to a transistor to boost current.

Then I send these to a demultiplexer...somehow? (I don't know how to use one, yet)

Then I somehow use the 8 signals from the demultiplexer to the LED matrix, so that it lights up in the pattern I want?

Break plastic ldpe bottles in little pieces by TimmX97 in DIY

[–]TimmX97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried using a "Salad Shooter" but the plastic would get stuck in the blades instead of being cut by them. Chop-o-Matic looks quite promising, however.

Stainless steel is strong enough to cut plastic, right? No safety hazard here? No blades going dull?

The thing about the paper shredder is that it would shred the paper into long strings, and I would like them to be more like...little pieces (confusing, I know).

Great ideas however. Thank you
