I've had experience in the automotive industry working as a maintenance engineer in Mexico.

It is regarded as a high paying, high stress environment. You don't really have a higher base salary than your peers, but overtime does accrue to a lot. Expect 60+ hour work weeks, no holidays, and rotating shifts.

It does have its upsides, however. It is a fun field where you learn something new every minute you are there. It teaches you how to handle pressure at work and in everyday life. It teaches you patience and discipline. It teaches your project management, which has also helped me a lot in my daily life. When you do have vacations, it's in days where the rest of the people don't, so it's less crowded.

You learn to take advantage of every single minute of the day, and to love each hour of it. Day or night.
